A lovely, clean and scenic place. One has to go around 21 km from Ooty for the lake. You need to park your vehichle and then take their eco-tour bus. The ticket cost Rs 150 each and generally kids are free but I will advice to take ticket of kids if they are more then 5 years or more as the bus is jam packed and you wont get any free place and traveling 2 hours in that small bus with kids in lap is a problem. There is a small eating place next to the ticket counter and one can have tea / snacks there. On the way they stopped near a very small waterfall and bhavani temple. However the main attraction is the Bhavani lake. The water is very clean and one can see through it. Very scenic and calm place . The bus will stop for 20-30 mins. The lake reminded me of Pangong Tso lake (leh) . In the first expression, I was in the impression that I am visiting Avalanche lake but latter it was clarified by them that it is Upper Bhawani and there is separate tour for emerald and Avalanche lake. But the place is a must for who ever is visiting Ooty and have some time with them as the total trip from ooty, bus tour and back to Ooty will take around 5 hours. Better start early and reach there by 9:00 to catch the first bus. After getting there first buy the ticket and have a seat in the bus as it will take no time for the bus to fill up. We took the bus ticket early but was unable to get the seat as it filled up very fast.
