“Overall a mixed experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2011

We stayed for business conference in June.
Hotel location is good. Romms are large & having good views from balcony. Toilets need some improvment.
Food is above average though not the upto the holiday inn mark. Room serivce was slow.
Hosuekeeping was good (even at 12 mid night, they cleaned the space upon request).
Worst part was, there was no fan & central AC was off. Therfore in the room the atmosphere was hot & suffocating. upon request they provided fan. But we have to opne window & let cool ooty breez enter in the room for comfirt.
Location was near to main market, though car is the best bet.
In the morning you have to wake up at 5:30 to 6:00am to courtain becasue sun arises from that direction. That is quite troublesome & disturbing. (you love the sun light in the morining but not at 6:00am)
Not able to enjoy the thermal pool.

Room Tip: 6th floor

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your review on Tripadvisor, which is very helpful to us and we would definitely do our best to address all feedback you have outlined.

For your information, we are already in process of finalizing our Mock Up (Sample Rooms) and we will be upgrading our guest rooms gradually.

The hotel does not have Air Conditioning as Ooty is a place which is much cooler and it is resort destination.

With best regards

Holiday Inn,ooty is definitely one of the best hotels in ooty though there are many avavilable options, but if you are looking for relaxation and calmness then this hotel did not dissapoint us at all..

Very well priced and great staff at your service whenever you need them. The gave 2 connecting rooms which was grand in size though we had to walk a bit from the lift to our room. Rooms were scenic though its advisable to take rooms on higher floor for lovely views of the hills...Check in and check out was smooth. Breaksfast was grand with north indian, south indian and continental servings. hotel has a large parking space so no problem if you have your car.

One should hav a car if planning to stay here as it is up a hill and not always convenient if you wanna take a stroll down to the market.

I have stayed in hoilday inn couple of times earlier... its definitely the best hotel in ooty with very docile and efficient staff. Only thing that the product i.e. the hotel has starting showing signs of aging ... that musty smell in the room, service directory pages not aligned as per serial number so can get kinda confusing for 1st time travelers. I do have higher expectations out of an IHG hotel. View from any room is just amazing ... and undoubtedly Ooty is the best hill station in South India.

We stayed as a family for an Easter break. We were focused on seeing Ooty as opposed to spending a lot of time in the hotel - just as well.
Our room (based on info from previous reviews) was relatively recently refurbished. You wouldn't know. Very tired fittings and decor. The shower had enough hot water for one person. Not good when you are a family of four.
Handy to have an indoor pool. Not so handy when you have to walk outside in the freezing weather to get there. Oh - and they only heat it for one day a week - what?!?!?
The restaurants were ok - we were able to find food for our kids to eat. The service was pretty average though.
As a western family, this Holiday Inn most certainly does not meet the usual international Holiday Inn standard. It wasn't a cheap accommodation option either so all in all quite disappointing. We were pleased to have seen Ooty but we won't be back.

The Hotel has very good ambiance, good food and excellent location. The hotel is Ideal for leisure and relaxation. The view towards the valley makes one happy and rejuvenated. The spa adds to it. But the spa location and design could still be better if there is a view of the valley from each spa room making one more relaxed. The old model of the car and the mural behind which leads to the grand reception lobby makes one feel more welcoming with the landscape lighting in the evenings. The flower arrangements at highlighted corners attracts more attention leading to the landscape outside.

Holiday Inn Gem Park - Ooty : Dec 16th 2010

We booked this hotel as part of our honeymoon package through SOTC.
The hotel has a beautiful garden and restaurant "Toda Cafe" where our buffet breakfast and Lunch were arranged are awesome.

The view of the hotel at night is beautiful and the comforts provided by the hotel and the hospitality of the staff is worth appreciating.

There is a home made chocolate shop inside the hotel which provides amazing chocolates and there is a shop inside hotel which provides very beautiful kashmiri shawls and bedsheets at a reasonable price.

This hotel is in the heart of the city and you need not go very far for sight seeing. Ooty is a beautiful city and the hotel added charm to our trip.

Amazing place and worth visiting again and again if you are in Ooty!!

Thanks for making our stay wonderful!!

Changed my reservation from Taj Savoy to this hotel on our kids insistence only because this hotel had a swimming pool and some activities for children. From the very beginning i am totally disappointed with this hotel. On 7th may when we reached the hotel after a very tiring drive there was not a single person available to remove my luggage from the car. I managed to carry the luggage to the hotel lobby , yet no response from any one. Finally I had to personally tell to on duty manager to look into it, the reason given was that there was a wedding going on, so was it my fault. Finally we were made to wait in the lobby for about 45minutes then managed to get a room. The food served at Toda cafe or the Jade garden was nothing to write about. Out of the three days we stayed we were served murg methi and fried fish in tartar sauce for two days. They cant even change the menu. For the price they are charging not at all value for money. The gym and the kids zone was poorly lit. Most of the gym equipments were poorly maintained, the table tennis table was broken, carrom was rough in short avoidable. Only saving grace was the location and cleanliness, though we found a spider in the bath tub and a small cockroach in the Toda cafe. When we wanted to buy tea packets from the hotel shop they could not locate the keys and finally when we checked out they were not even able to give us a bill as their system was down. Well so much for a 4 star property.
