We only had one night at the Savoy; in hindsight I wish it was two. It’s a lovely looking place, high up in the Nilgiri Hills (the trip up there is an adventure in itself!), all colonial architecture and beautifully manicured gardens, the staff are kind and caring and attentive, and the food, though a little dumbed down spice-wise for us Europeans, was rather good (and dinner that night was a hilarious affair, in a lively, giggly dining room with Europeans in linens, and Indians in fleeces and woolly hats; 22 degrees means different things to different people!). Our room, in a 1920s block unattached to the main building, was quaint, quiet and comfortable, breakfast was lovely, and we set off again next morning, en route to Mysore feeling refreshed and fit.
