The location of the resort is very beautiful all around the resort, you can view mountains and valley's from most of the room's or from their garden lawns, this resort used to get cloudy in the evening with light and some times dense fog with chilling cold during our stay in December [winter season] the resort is some 5 km away from the main city of ooty, the resort property is very big and has many different types of accommodations, like standard rooms, studio rooms, 1 bedroom aprtm, and 2 BR aprtm, most of the rooms have beautiful views specially 1 BR aprtm cottages which have personal sit out place and lush green garden connected all around the cottages with beautiful valley view, here you can enjoy your morning tea in sun while the weather is chilly in winters, the resort has their travel section which is quite reasonable for your travel to city or for site visits to various different places, you can also hire auto's from near the resort gate which are just opposite to the main entrance, here you will also find one small shop from here you can buy small needs for your daily use, The welcome during our check in was quick with excellent welcome drink, and the staff was very courteous to accommodate you in the best of your requirement, here in the lobby they have PRO'S [public relation] for to look after the guests comfort during their stay, here we met MS RAJKUMARI who would always welcome us with big smile when ever we went to the lobby, this highlights the courteousness of the staff towards their guests, At the restaurant you are always given smile ling welcome, here we met DHAYA and MR KARTHICK both would like to fulfill your request on priority and see that your request is handled carefully, even the other staff in the restaurant are very helpful and courteous towards all the guests, the food quality and taste was very good, the rates are also reasonable compare to the resort standard, here you can enjoy their buffet meals at discounted rates with vast different variety of foods and deserts, As we were there for new year they had planned big cocktail party with dance and music with very big buffet spread of which we enjoyed very much, The house keeping staff also does commanding job, here we met ms punita and mr suresh who would do our rooms neat and clean every day, and special mention for Mr NIYATA all rounder house keeping incharge, The area manager Mr Dilawar Singh was very jolly person who would interact with us and ask about our comfortable stay, over all our stay at this resort was very fulfilling and enjoyed our vacation very much..

Though while booking this hotel we were in a dilemma wheather it would b a right choice or not but then it was a super excellent stay with all necessary requirements taken utmost care by the staff,the room provided had an excellent eye catching view which actually made our four day stay a memorable one,Thanks

Rather than criticizing or admiring, we hereby narrate our experience we faced in Fern Hill. The reader can decide the rest.

We have booked a deluxe suite in Fern-hill through booking.com. After a long drive of 9 hrs, we reached Fernhill at 4.05PM & shown the receptionist our booking voucher.

At 4.10PM Receptionist: Sir, pls wait for 5 minutes
We waited there and at 4.25PM when I reminded that we waiting,
Receptionist: Sir 5 minutes
At 4.35 – We were taken outside the main building and shown a duplex room with a 9x9 bed room with toilet in down stairs attached to a small sitting place
We: We need a room which is shown exactly in the booking.com. Since we have booked a deluxe suite, we need that room itself. We booked for a Deluxe suite only because we needed a big room.
Ms. Daffy (Fern-hill person): This is the room you have booked.
We: How come it may? It is clearly mentioned in the voucher that, the room is "Spacious one-bedroom apartment with a work desk and separate living room. Also features a dining area and balcony overlooking the surrounding hills”. Does it fulfill this?
Ms. Daffy: I will speak to our Manager.
By 05.05PM Mr. Vinoth attended us.
Mr. Vinoth: Sir, there is NO DELUX SUITE room in this main building. The rooms you booked are the one we showed to you. In main building we have only Superior rooms, which ranks below the Deluxe Suites.
We: Ok then give us superior rooms
Vinoth: Please wait. I will arrange.
After 15 minutes
Vinoth: Sir, today we don’t have the room with balcony. I will provide you tomorrow.
We said ok.
So, by 5.30 (after 1.30 hours) we checked in the Superior room, in the main building. The Geyser was not working – No hot water.
Next day morning at 8 AM, we contacted the house keeping for hot water. On repeated reminders & quarrels, by 10.15 we were shifted to a new room with balcony and a functioning geyser. But we had to wait about 45 minutes to get the hot water come from Geyser.

The breakfast closes at 10.30AM. When we gone to breakfast, the time was 10.45. Then, we had to argue with the restaurant guys to get our breakfast.

At the game centre, my son was excited to see that there was a trampoline. He jumped on that and started to play. Suddenly a caretaker rushed there and screamed ‘Sir Get down, it is damaged’
We moved to indoor games –
We: Can we get cycles?
Caretaker: Cycles are there (Rs.50 for 1 hr.), but under repair.
We: Badminton?
Caretaker: Bat is here, no balls.
We: Oh, there is dart, will you provide the pins?
Caretaker: Pins are not available, only board is here
We: Ok, give me shuttle bat
Caretaker: Rs.50 for 1 hr.
We were given two bats with broken guts and since the shuttle stucks in between the broken guts we returned the bats.

At the time of check out (Anti-climax) –
By 9AM I called the reception and told to keep the bill ready, since we would check out within 1 hour.
By 09.45AM when we passed through the reception for breakfast, I reminded him to keep ready the bill.
By 10.05AM when we get down with our baggages, the bill was not kept ready. After a 30 minutes long waiting, finally we got our bill.

To my final shock, we noted that we were charged for Deluxe Suite!

We: Hello, you have allotted us Superior room, then how come you charge for Deluxe Suite?
Receptionist: Sir, all the rooms in this main building are ‘DELUXE ROOMS’ NOT Superior rooms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS:
1. We were given, room no.1102. During the cleaning time we saw Room no.1104 – EXACTLY THE SAME ROOM WHICH WE BOOKED THROUGH BOOKING.COM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. We met Sterling sales officials Mr. Ranjith & Mr. Siva, when they tried to canvas us for making the ‘Sterling members’. They literally saw and understood our experience. Mr. Ranjith, had no words to say (he is such a nice person).

3. Sterling has a wonderful restaurant. Good spread. Nicely arranged. But with some staff with a very bad attitude (Mr. Vinod Nair is a very good person)

4. Sterling has some funny rules. One of them is cars should not be parked facing the hotel.

WE WERE CHEATED, HUMILIATED & HARASSED.

THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT WE WERE STAYING IN A STERLING PROPERTY, AND WE HAVE DECIDED THAT WE WOULD NEVER AGAIN.

WE DON’T NEED A ‘SORRY MAIL’ FROM STERLING GUYS.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights(December 26 and 27,2013). We had booked 2 Deluxe Suite rooms(one for me and my wife and other for my in-laws). The rooms were of average quality. The views from the room were good but were short of several amenities which are usually available at other hotels. In our room the latch of the main door was broken. The cleanliness was not good. Ooty is a cold place and despite that there were no carpets on the floor or even rugs etc. The tea, cofffee platter was pretty ordinary. There were no biscuits,snacks on the platter. The electric kettle in our in-laws room was not working.On the first day we were served 2 bottles of mineral water. Next two days we had to ask for water everyday although the room service should have kept them. There were flies in our room. The first day we told our concern to the hotel staff. They sprayed some insecticide but that did not help. We had to sleep that day with flies on the ceiling and fans. The next day we again complained to the staff but that did not help much. Still there were flies around. We found that there was no point in complaining and we had to sleep the second night too with flies around.The photo of flies have been attached.

The description when we booked mentioned that there will be wi-fi in the room. But actually there were no wi-fi network in the rooms.

The bathrooms in the suite are also very small and crammed for space. There is a lot of room inside the suites and with a little planning the bathrooms could have been made bigger and comfortable.

The deluxe suits are actually two storied apartment types. There was only one room heater at the top room. There was no room heater for the ground floor rooms. As a result we had to spend the nights in the first floor room.The quality of television sets and in room entertainment are also very poor.

The approach to the hotel is very steep. The quality of road is very bad. If you are not a good driver its better not to select this hotel. The good thing about this hotel is the quality of food. The ingredients used to cook are of good quality and food is tasty. If you are a foodie you will like the food here.

Excellent gud staff very helpful corporative. Excellent food with lots of variety. Nice entertainment in evening hours. Enjoyed our stay at ooty fern hills . Special thanks to Khushboo and Rajkumari and Mr Shridhar for lovely food & services all time. Bala and staff from home service section were also helpful. Thanks all once again for making our trip memorable.

We along with four families are staying in this hotel for the last two days. Rooms are very clean ,well equipped.staff is very courteous and the food is really yummy.special mention must be made of the eye catching and exclusive towel craft done by mr. Balakumar(housekeeping staff).we have never seen such a nice art earlier in any of the hotels/resorts We have visited so far. Special thanks again to mr. Balakumar for nicely demonstrating the towel craft in a easy to understand way.
