It is located at the entrance to Ooty while coming from Cornoor / Coimbatore side, you need to travel atleast 5 KM inside from the main road. You need to have your vehicle or hire a vehicle to be mobile while staying in this resort. Or there is a travel desk inside the resort for any travel arrangements. Outside gate you can find autos, but when you need it, it may not be there. They have a gift shop which you get most of the day to day things.
They have approx. 175 rooms, the new building rooms are nice and comfortable with a good view if you are staying at higher floors. The staffs are very courteous and helpful and they make sure and see that you are comfortable. We were there during Independence Day for 3 nights and we enjoyed our stay there. During Independence Day, there were varieties of program including bon-fire and games for all age group. It was bit chilly. Buffet dinner and breakfast if you take as a combo is very cost effective and very good and with different varieties.
Daily there are variety of programs and entertainment, which includes hiking, sports, treasure hunt. One of the days there was DJ in the evening with an entry fee of Rs.50. Good space around for a morning / evening walk with good lawns / garden and children play area. During our stay there were frequent power cuts, however the resort has a generator and power comes on line within a minute or two.
Good resort for a family visit and a week stay.

Room Tip: Higher floor in the main or new building.

Fern Hill by sterling is an awesome resort with excellent service and amazing food. One of the best timeshares that I have visited.

With a little bit of improvement in the activities and spa, this could be a well sought after destination for holidays.

My special commendation to the restaurant manager and the service staff for their wonderful service.

As you would note from many other reviews, the last 500 meters of road to Hotel has width to accommodate two four-wheelers but is left paved only in the middle, enough for one vehicle. If you are in a sedan and have to cross another four wheeler, parked or on-coming, be ready to scrape the belly of the car on the road. We were lucky to not to face that situation this time.
• It is truly a resort where you have the options of staying in the ‘building’ or smaller structures (like row houses) or cottages, which provide you an access to and experience of openness.
• I had booked 2 rooms through MMT and was in touch with Ms. Rajkumari in Sterling to understand the options of room/location. God bless her for understanding my requirement (Senior Citizen parents and hence, need to avoid stairs and young daughter, hence, need open space to play) and kept aside room numbers 1703 and 1704 for us. These two rooms are at ground floor, have an entry through a lawn and but farthest from the hotel main building. I am loading a picture of Google location (blue arrow) in front of the rooms to identify that. Hotel provides the services of a battery driven cart to ferry senior citizens, luggage etc. Hence the distance from the main building (read restaurant, reception, travel desk etc.) was not a problem.
• We were welcomed at the reception with Tilak and hot lemon tea shot (my daughter fancied that a lot). Though our rooms were not ready, staff ensured that we were not held-up. We quickly got ready and left, as we had planned.
• In the evening, Parents ordered for in-room dining for dinner and we preferred to try the restaurant. Owing to Eid festival, the restaurant had special ambience and as I was told, the buffet was also approx. 650+taxes (Rs. 100 more then the normal). We requested for Ala-carte, which Saikat agreed to after confirming from someone on phone. Chicken Tikka Masala and Dal were ordered, along with Naan, Roti and Paratha. I only liked the Chicken dish. Breads, as mentioned, were too thin, and small for the price. They should surely look at that. Parents had the same view. Though they wanted to have one roti each, I ordered one extra, which, eventually was required. The quality and size was much better at Nahar’s at the same cost. We ordered hot chocolate milk for daughter two times in the evenings, and both times, it took almost an hour to deliver.
• Breakfast buffet has good variety. It met my expectations as the reviews on buffet breakfast at Sterling was one of the major points to decide on Sterling Fernhill.
• It was very comforting to come back to the room in the evening. House Keeping did a good job. Room was neat, very functional (had microwave with cutlery etc., electric kettle with assortments). They provide a litre of bottled water every day. A fruit platter was delivered in the evening as a surprise. A good-night note from House Keeping team in the form of a leaf (see the picture) was also a good gesture. My daughter was thrilled to see the elephant forms made from towels. Bathroom was small, but good.
• We received a call from Reception daily to check if we needed anything. I felt that everyone was out to ensure that you had a pleasant stay. My daughter liked the stay a lot, she even wrote a feedback, which I handed over to the House Keeping team.
• There was a big lawn, and I saw other families playing cricket. There were power-cut couple of times in the morning and evening, and power back-up from a big genset was the saving grace. There was no internet, 3G signal was fine on Airtel.
• Overall, a nice stay, as expected.

Room Tip: We liked 1703 and 1704 for meeting our requirements.

I am Jeya Ganapathy, I recently stayed in Fern Hill for 2 nights from 10th August to 12 August 2013 and the stay was very pleasant. I have only positive things to talk about the hotel. The room service team was amazing and they are very knowledgeable. The most important thing is the staff of the hotel who take care of you right from the time you check in.
The upgrade from standard to deluxe was a pleasant surprise to me and the beauty of the room facing the valley cannot be explained in words. The check in and check out was made easy and there is nothing to worry about.
The one thing that I noticed about the hotel is the feedback system and they taking it very seriously. Right from the room service person to reception desk asking you for a feedback is quite surprising.
However the hotel menu need more varieties for vegetarian a la carte. But the morning breakfast was good and easily get 5 star.
Special thanks to make my trip for the deal we got for this hotel. I strongly recommend this hotel for a enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: The cottages they have was very good with valley view. One should not miss it they are very good.
