This place is indeed a slice from the paradise. Read on...

We were a large group of 12 adults and 8 kids who just came back from a weekend in Red Hills Nature Resort. We travelled by a bus from Bangalore. The journey was long, arduous and tough. Especially the last kilometre or so was particularly rough and absence of any signage leading to this place made it a bit more difficult. I am told that travelling by a car is not that difficult and will surely try it out in next time.

However, on reaching Red Hills we quickly forgot the travel fatigue when we sat by the fireplace and welcomed by the warm hospitality of Mr.Vijay and his staff. I noticed in some earlier reviews that mentioned the owner as a snob. I pity those reviewer(s) as they probably can't distinguish between class and mass. During the entire tenure of our stay never did we hear a single 'no' word from anyone. The fact that the owner and his wife dines with guests in the same dining hall goes a long way to say about the quality, hygiene and homeliness of the food.
We would probably not go back only for food but then one cannot point any finger about the food. One evening we had a bonfire and barbeque which was really top class.

The best part about the resort are the stunning views it offers from just about anywhere. Hills on one side and tea gardens and lake on the other side are a feast for your eyes and soul. The tranquility, unpolluted air and the serene atmosphere are just magnificent. The overall upkeep of the gardens and the property and very very commendable. Flowers of various shapes and sized, colours and hues are things to soak in from this experience.

If you do feel a moment of boredom, Mobi - the inhouse entertaining GSD will keep you fully occupied. Yet to come across a friendlier dog than him.
We went for a trek on the first day to the top of the hill. Apart from the breathtaking views which got better as we climbed higher, it was Mobi's company which made the experience more than worthwhile.

I could keep writing... like the picnic experience which Vijay and his staff organised for us. But I guess you need to go there to experience all these for yourself. Better still here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure!!!

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms which are at a height and secluded from the other rooms in the main area.

Far from the hustle and bustle of the Ooty town is this superb resort overlooking a serene lake. Run by a Tea plantation family, this place is so peaceful and tranquil. The swift chill wind that flows through the mountains soothes your stress out and you get the real feeling of relaxing!

The family lives right in the front of the resort in a British style bunglow. The tour of the house itself is a treat! They have many antique stuff that will awe you. To add to this, the warmth that you get from them has no words to describe. I never heard a NO from them all through the trip!

One day we walked down to the lake and the resort arranged lunch for us there. That part of the day was the most memorable one as the entire walk, the place, the ambience and everything around was so scintillating.

In the nights you can have bon fire and in the darkness and no city lights, u can see the entire stars spread over and it is certainly a sight to watch.

There is wildlife there but one has to be lucky to see them. Although we ventured out to see leopards, we could only see bison and wild boars.

Overall, any amount of time spent will look too little that when u leave you will say "Don't feel like going back"!!!!

Room Tip: The last room has the hill view. They told us that at times you can see leopards sitting on the rock...

We are a busy working couple, planned to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my birthday in Ooty this year. We did lot of research and finally we chosen red hills resort, thanks to trip adviser.

We called Mr vijay property owner and made all arrangements on phone. We planned to stay for 3 nights. Transportation from coimbatore airport also arranged by the resort.

When we arrived in coimbatore, surprised to see Mr vijay, property owner came to personally pick us in his SUV. Then it is four and half hour journey to Ooty.

This resort is 10 km away from Ooty but will take 1 hr due to bumpy roads.

After reaching the resort we are thrilled. The location is amazing. There is a beautiful emerald lake view and surrounded by tea plantation and mountains. This is very refreshing for us who came from concrete jungle like Hyderabad.

Food served is very good. It is organic food, with all natural spices and without oil. All meals provided by resort as part of the package and every day different menu.

Resort arranged site seeing tours every day. We visited sunset point, upper bhavani. There is also trekking tours to the hill top everyday where you can have excellent view.

Resort arranged cake on our marriage day as surprise. Hospitality of Mr Vijay and family is very good, they treated us like family guests. They also arranged BBQ and personally cooked food and served all guests.

There is lot of activity you can do around the resort. Go for a long walk in the tea plantations or trek towards emerald lake or simply sit and watch the nature.

You will feel that every rupee you spent for this resort is worth.

We enjoyed every moment of our stay, planning to visit this place next year.

Room Tip: Choose lake front rooms for good view. If you need privacy then choose temple or hill side room.

It is placed in a locality which will give you whatever you expect from a hill station. It is placed in the midst of tea estate with the front view of dam. The climate is much better than what you get in the urban Ooty. When we visited the minimum temperature was almost 4-5 degree celcius than Ooty. People who loves trucking you have good options here. You can truck up to a hill which is just behind the resort. That will take almost 4+ hours. You can go down to the dam that is in front of the resort, that will be a 2+ hours trekking. They arrange a trip to Poruthi Mundu dam which is 15 Km from the resort. That is worth going. You can spot multiple animals on your way. This is going through a thick forest. In poruthi Mundu you can see a good pine forest as well. Poruthi mundu is much chiller than red hill resorts.

Now coming back to the downsides. If you have plans to roam around in Ooty, then better stay one day in ooty complete your roaming there, then go to red hill resorts. Two reasons for this. First , one way travel is around 2 hours and secondly, if you don't have a proper SUV, you will not able to take your car to the resort and one way trip, the resort charges you 1200 and for to and fro you need to pay 2400. The other thing is the food is strictly average. Especially the snacks in the evening is just biscuits and a cup of tea.

Amazing location ( overlooking the avalanche and emerald lakes), comfy rooms, good food. Far from the madding crowd ! Also good base camp to explore the scenic surroundings, full of dams and forests. Need your own transport.

I had traveled in of Nov 2011 actually, but the drop down list went till july2012 only. I went with my wife and my 1yr old kid. Had read a lot of praise about the location on the internet..and it is great. But the hospitality was big let down. Initially i had called in to inquire about vacancy..the so called manager was not responsive, so went ahead with the Prop. Mr. Vijayakumar directly..he sent me a sms about the bank details and i promptly deposited the amt. No confirmation from him..I remember to have called him each and every time and never being called once..They have double standards at the property. A clear bias towards foreigners. I was picked up by his driver in a bolero and the other foreign guests were picked up by him personally in his scorpio. This itself should not be an issue with me; but small things like this do add up. When i reached the place, there was no one to receive. Was put up in the new room, located a little higher up than his residence..the rooms were great..it was very cold as a depression was set in tamilnadu..the fireplace was not be used as the smoke would make it difficult to be put up with. Was provided with a blower which was not sufficient for a 500sq.ft. room and my 1 yr old daughter..daytime temp was 10 Celsius...and their USP is beautifully furnished rooms with fireplace. Food was nice. His wife attended to us properly..the driver and the cook (tony, i guess) were a gem. In the evening he invited me to the restaurant sitting which had a good fire going and offered me a drink..little did i know it would set me back by 400/-..this i came to know when i settled my room bills...And there was no proper Invoice and receipt..only a small hand written memo..I found the owner a little arrogant and a snob too..To conclude i would say that it a little expensive at 6000/night for the kind of service they provide and the overall attitude..There was a playful dog who kept our spirits high...

Room Tip: Go for the rooms away from the main residence..

We stayed at RedHill resort for 3 nights many years ago. It was a great place to stay and we had a very peaceful quite time. we got a room just next to the main building, it had a fire place and 3 beds was very comfortable. They picked us up from the Ooty bus stand and also dropped us back. The hosts Vijay and his wife were very friendly, food was awesome, the cook was dishing out so many kinds of stuff for breakfast lunch and dinner even though we were the only 2 guests at that time in the Resort. We rented bikes, took long walks, hiked up a hill behind the estate and had a relaxing time!
