Amazing location ( overlooking the avalanche and emerald lakes), comfy rooms, good food. Far from the madding crowd ! Also good base camp to explore the scenic surroundings, full of dams and forests. Need your own transport.

I had traveled in of Nov 2011 actually, but the drop down list went till july2012 only. I went with my wife and my 1yr old kid. Had read a lot of praise about the location on the internet..and it is great. But the hospitality was big let down. Initially i had called in to inquire about vacancy..the so called manager was not responsive, so went ahead with the Prop. Mr. Vijayakumar directly..he sent me a sms about the bank details and i promptly deposited the amt. No confirmation from him..I remember to have called him each and every time and never being called once..They have double standards at the property. A clear bias towards foreigners. I was picked up by his driver in a bolero and the other foreign guests were picked up by him personally in his scorpio. This itself should not be an issue with me; but small things like this do add up. When i reached the place, there was no one to receive. Was put up in the new room, located a little higher up than his residence..the rooms were great..it was very cold as a depression was set in tamilnadu..the fireplace was not be used as the smoke would make it difficult to be put up with. Was provided with a blower which was not sufficient for a 500sq.ft. room and my 1 yr old daughter..daytime temp was 10 Celsius...and their USP is beautifully furnished rooms with fireplace. Food was nice. His wife attended to us properly..the driver and the cook (tony, i guess) were a gem. In the evening he invited me to the restaurant sitting which had a good fire going and offered me a drink..little did i know it would set me back by 400/-..this i came to know when i settled my room bills...And there was no proper Invoice and receipt..only a small hand written memo..I found the owner a little arrogant and a snob too..To conclude i would say that it a little expensive at 6000/night for the kind of service they provide and the overall attitude..There was a playful dog who kept our spirits high...

Room Tip: Go for the rooms away from the main residence..

We stayed at RedHill resort for 3 nights many years ago. It was a great place to stay and we had a very peaceful quite time. we got a room just next to the main building, it had a fire place and 3 beds was very comfortable. They picked us up from the Ooty bus stand and also dropped us back. The hosts Vijay and his wife were very friendly, food was awesome, the cook was dishing out so many kinds of stuff for breakfast lunch and dinner even though we were the only 2 guests at that time in the Resort. We rented bikes, took long walks, hiked up a hill behind the estate and had a relaxing time!

we stayed in the resort only for a day due to nonavailability of the room for one more day and how we wished that it was available because coupled with a fantastic location was the hospitality of the hosts and the trekking to the hills behind the property and walk down to the lake with a safari thrown in the evening made us want to stay more.may be we would do that with one more visit.one nice thing about the home stay is mixing with like minded for a chat by the fireplace which generally doesn't happen in formal settings like a hotel.it was extremely homely thanks to mr vijay the owner.

Room Tip: any room is good enough as yu may not spend hours watching the lake though lake viewing rooms are th...

Bangalore is a great staging area to many 3 day getaway options in the jungles and hills. My wife and I have been to a few of them and Red Hills ranks right up there with some of the best we've visited.
The drive from Bangalore is straight to Ooty and just after the Ooty bus stand you veer away to your right towards Emerald or "Emeraaald" as it is locally known. The final stretch of road up to the Red Hills estate is quite rough and if you aren't confident of driving or if your car doesn't seem up to handling some rocky, bumpy, slushy terrain you can call on the resort for a pick up from Ooty. We made the last leg easily enough and the landscape towards the end was simply breath taking.

At the resort, we were warmly welcomed by the chief care taker Ramesh and shown to our rooms. I knew we were at the right place when I was asked if I wanted a beer a few minutes after we checked in and were sitting at the restaurant of the resort / home stay. Beer in hand and much happier after the long-ish drive (which we did more or less non - stop from BLR) we met the owner of the estate Mr. Vijay. Gracious as ever, he was most hospitable and told us all we needed to know about the history of the estate and the surrounding areas.

The rooms were splendid albeit the bathrooms could have done with a wee bit of an overhaul. That said, everything that we could have asked for was made available to us. The food was excellent, the service great. The estate itself is breathtaking and we could spend hours exploring the surrounding areas. We befriended the estate dog Moby ( fantastic old German Shepherd) who then accompanied us on a long trek down to the Emerald lake through some forest and thickets. Moby was with us throughout and just as well because walking through the forest below as dusk was settling in was a bit unnerving! We thought we heard a few rustles in the bushes but Moby didn't react and that kept us going.

We also went up with a guide to the top most point of the estate to get an incredible panorama of the lakes and water system around us. It was from here that we could also see the amazing and somewhat mythic "Silent Valley" forest reserve. It also happened to be my birthday on the morning of the trek and the estate folks were kind enough to bake me a cake as well! Just another mark of the hospitality you can expect if you make the trip here.

Overall a great place for a 2 night, 3 day vacation. Plenty of hiking / trekking / cycling options around or you can just sit back, enjoy the amazing views and breathe the purest air you could be breathing anywhere today.

Room Tip: Ask for the "Lake Facing" rooms

Due to the commercialization and hustle bustle of Ooty, any place about 20km away from it is exceptionally serene. The red hills nature resort is a dramatically beautiful place to stay located amidst sheer greenery. It's a beautiful gabled house overlooking the Emarald lake from the top of a hillock surrounded by a lush green tea garden.

For a garden lover, the veggies that they cook come from their small organic farm, from which is really worth a look at.
When we went the owner herself had cooked the food, and it was absolutely light and delicious.

I can not forget the doggies, the extremely friendly German shepherd 'Moby' who will tirelessly play fetch for a whole day and will never refuse a cuddle and adorable puppy 'Apple' which would always interrupt Moby in his game.

Moby showed us along the tea estate early in the morning when we got to see the breathtaking sight of the lake that spreads amidst the hills during sunrise.

The owners are very friendly and may also arrange for fishing or guides for trekking. We ourselves drove down to the foot if the hill to see the small cascade and the clear bluewater of emarald lake at the foot of the hill. The best thing to do at red hills would be to stroll around or trek and enjoy the exceptional view by just drawing your curtains. This resort has the best view of all the resorts located in the place.

We went in October and it was pretty chilly, do take some warm clothing.

Being a bird maniac and an absolute nature lover, the trip was paradise, I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: They have temple garden rooms, mountain villa rooms and lake view rooms. The mountain villa room is...

I escaped the 34 degrees C of Bangalore with my wife Roopal and a bunch of friends and arrived at Red Hill. And we were left shivering most part of the day and the night with a bonfire to keep us warm. THAT was surreal! It actually felt like winter with around 13 degrees Celsius in the nights.

The property is simply awesome with an old world charm obviously since it seems it was built by the British sometime in the late 1800s. Our cottages overlooked the tea estate, the hills and the Emerald lake in the distance. Great rooms, luxurious giant shower and bathtub. AND a fireplace!

Food, as my wife would say was - strictly oooookkkkaay.

The best part - A big brown German Shepherd and a tiny black German Shepherd for company.

Room Tip: At the height of summer, this place was freezing. So carry warm clothes, please
