“Great Property and memorable experience”
Reviewed November 13, 2011

Red hills nature resort is now quite a known name in the weekend near-Ooty-but-away-from-Ooty travel circuit. The front two rooms of the property have amazing views. The lakes near the area are pristine and isolated top the extent that you will not believe that hordes of travellers have not yet discovered it. I hope it stays so. The place is pure and unpolluted and cannot support mass tourism. The food, including the non-vegetarian fare (that also has the occasional fish on the menu) was excellent when we had gone, so I can't say for the apparent bad experience of a few others on this forum. Please note that all rooms are charged the same rate but it is only the front two ones which have the views and are actually worth more than the money you pay for them. Yes, all activities are charged extra, as they should be, unlike some other people on this forum who have been cribbing about that. The nearby lakes should be visited (most will need a car) and there is a small trek to the top of the hill at the back that should also be done. Yes, hot water could be a slight issue, but you can't ask for running hot water in a place like this at any time of the day. It is time that some maintenance be also carried out to the units. Despite these small issues, overall, Red Hills is an excellent place, wonderful views, great isolation.

Room Tip: Only the 2 front rooms have the commanding views

Beautiful place, great management , amazing food and breathtaking view.... There is a nice vide to the place and gives a home away from home feel. The owners are the best and try their level best to make it a homely atmosphere. The long drive from Ooty to Red hills (around 2 to 2.30 hrs ) definitely worth it. This has been our second visit and would go back again with out a tough.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms with the lake view or the new bigger rooms with fire palace

My husband and I wanted a quite, "far away" vacation. We chose to drive to Red Hills (found in internet). The drive to that place was little confusing but once u reach there - it's a heaven! Amazing nature around, the owners were just too kind, friendly and helpful! The food was delicious! we never ate anything twice there :-) Even once they cooked something my husband asked for :-) (some south indian dish). We had a privaate guide who took us on top of the mountain. Enjoyed that place very much! Would for sure go there again!!

For those of you who love the cold drizzle and would like to experience the real Ooty - you should definitely visit this gorgeous guest house - especially in the month of June-July. Red Hills gives you everything it promises - quaint cozy rooms with fireplaces - nice bathrooms - with hot water. And a breathtaking view of the Emerald Lake/Dam. The service was great - food was better and damn good hospitality too I would say. We were a group of 5 and loved the trip to bits!!

Room Tip: ask for lake facing rooms; connected rooms avail

We booked this resort for our weekend getaway from bangalore. The location of this resort is simply breathtaking. The drive to this resort requires a 4x4. The resort do offer pick up services from Emarald town. For dog lovers there is a well trained german sheperd named "Moby". He will do stone or twig fetching till you get tired. The rooms are quite beautifully crafted. The food offered requires a little improvement. But that did'nt deter us from enjoying the beauty of this place. For outdoor activity lovers ensure that you go in non-monsoon period. Kudos to Mr. Vijaykumar who owns and runs this place. It is defenitely not the commercial type of resort or homestays. Most importantly the resort does not accept credit / debit cards. That is also taken care of by them, we were asked to make the payment at a designated point in ooty. Overall lovely place to relax & enoy the climate & beauty.

Red hills is divine !!! It really is surreal ... It is manifestation of thought ..I cannot get over it...I am so greatful that I was able to visit the place ..
It is not like yout typical hotel stay but an exceptionally warm, loving and unpretentious Period Homestay:I t is run by this amazing couple who make you feel completetly at home.. The awesome part is the location..It is tucked in between nowhere and all you can see is the Hills on one side and the Emerald Lake on another..It is truly a soul searching expereince that cannot be missed !!

After roughing longwinding roads, when you finally reach the slopes you notice the light. Blue tinged glow in the sky. Flowers sprouting everywhere. The Resort not only resides amongst this beauty, but builds on it, with its own touch. The view is breathtakingly beautiful. The oandscape wickedly pretty. It seems like a setting out of "Lord of the rings'. Each corner has a pleasant surprise in this resort. A bridge, a well, bull temple, hall. The rooms with Lakeview make you want to laze the whole day. My stay was blissful. Rooms clean, and comfortable. Food, fresh and well cooked. The treks were well arranged...it is a place to be.
