“Amazing place for the price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2011

had gone with a couple of friends and had come to know of this place when we were bumped of from another hotel in Ooty. We were dreading as to how is the place gonna be but to our surprise it was a gr8 place.

We got standard room which were pretty decent and clean with their own fire places...real nice. There are garden rooms also available which were all booked thus could not move there.

Its on a hillock and the view is good. It is an old bunglow from the british era and has been done up well. Prices for food were pretty reasonable and we enjoyed the meals.

There is a longe where u can play chess, enjoy ur drinks, play cards and have a nice little fire going by the side.

Loved the place

I stayed at this place recently (April 2011) along with wife, 2 kids and parents on a vacation to Ooty.

This place truly offers something different from many routine hotels in terms of its ambiance, quality of service and most importantly the location ! Though the travel to this place can be a bit daunting especially during rains (due to un-tarred road) and nights (No lights) and I hope the hotel management does something about the small stretch of road leading up to this place to make it more easier to drive - but once you reach there you will be charmed by the view you get from the top from where you not only get to see almost the entire ooty valley, you also get to see a wonderful lawn adorned with some very beautiful flowering plants that makes a really pretty picture.

The rooms are clean and practical though a few things need urgent upgrade like the TV and the cable connection they have (I had almost forgotten those grainy TV pictures that we used to see once upon a time before the DTH era ! It is probably part of their strategy to remind us of the by-gone era :-) but the fact that we had to spend a considerable amount of time in the evenings indoors due to rains and cold weather made it difficult for us to keep ourselves and the kids engaged - While I missed some of the IPL action, kids missed all their favorite cartoons. I would say this is a bit of an irritant in otherwise a wonderful place.

The food deserves a special mention as well. Though quite expensive, the menu offered good choice and the food was very Yummy as well. on the contrary, the complimentary buffet breakfast had very limited choices.

All in all, had a great stay for 3 days and returned with some wonderful memories of this place. This place could give any top Hotel a good run for its money if some of the minor irritants are taken care of !!!

Last Christmas, we went to this quaint, bunglow converted hotel. First let me say that the positives are too many that you tend to ignore the few negatives. One must go there without any expectations. Thats what we did.

The place is cutoff from main market area and all the commercial trapings of any hill station. We reached there through this impossibly narrow lane up the hill. Even the driver had second thoughts about this place! And I wondererd how dark and scary it wud get out there during night.

But once there.. it was beautiful. The main common hall was decorated with christmas stuff and carols were playing.. U instantly got a festive feeling... The staff was smiling and chatty but also gave u privacy.
The room was good. Bath clean. Fireplace worked like magic. It was very cold up there and the staff did there best to keep rooms warm.

Kids had a great time in the garden outside and we trekkd down couple of turns and enjoyed every bit of it! There are few locals around who are busy doing their own thing... Once when our ball got stuck in a huge thicket the neighbour came forward and took it out for us!

Food is the highlight here. Its not cheap mindyou, but worth it! Still remember how succulent the Rogan-josh was aand how crispy the hot dosas! Menu is short. You dont get overwhelmed with choices. One can eat even in the garden. The staff serves you there. We had our b/fast out there.

After dinner we spent time in the main house, listening to carols and playing chess. Next day we went to main market area and lake etc. But the Kids were bored and just ordered us to go back to the hotel!
That was pretty surprising considering there wasnt much for a 5 and 7 year old at the hotel! But I guess kids are also tired of traffic and general chaos of a tourist town.
Btw we got alcohol from the market as the hotel doesnt serve. Overall An Awesome Experience!

The best place to stay in ooty
I had my reservations about many of the goody good reviews about this place, but when i experienced it myself, i knew how true they were.

The hotel is a charming converted colonial era mansion.
the staff are delightfully courteous and they make you feel at home instantly.
they arranged for a surprise candle-lit dinner for me and my wife on our anniversary.
The in house dining is excellent but a tad pricey. but comparing the similar places in ooty, it is amazing.
i even bought their delicious home made fresh strawberry jam :) worth every penny

the rooms are clean, airy and well maintained with a fireplace in each room.
as the norm, firewood is available complimentary on the first day of the stay.
the views from the luxury rooms are beautiful.
the whole theme is drawn from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, and the suites are named according to his books :)
The main dining room is named the Irene Adler room :)

As it is about 2 kms from the town, it is advisable to hire a vehicle for the period of your stay. and accomodations are provided free of cost for the driver.

Delightfully quaint, and away from the hustle bustle of the town, this is the best place for a romantic getaway or a Quiet holiday.

Room Tip: ask for the "Six Napoleons" Suite.

sherlock hotel is one of the property of little earth group(http://www.littlearth.in/).
sherlock is located on hills and has a very nice view.
basically it is like a bunglow with a small dinning area and attached rooms. they have two categories of rooms some located inside the house and other seperately outside the house.we were staying in the room located inside.try to avoid these rooms as it is disturbing and the room doors open in to the dinning area.
over all saying nice location , average quality of food, bed and rooms were not very comfortable.we did not have a peacefull sleep due to noise and the lights which were kept on outside our room window during nights.

We had an excellent few days in this beautifully renovated bungalow on the edge of Ooty. The interior comprises a comfortable sitting area, dining room and breakfast area, themed with Conan Doyle prints and memorabilia, and roaring log fires. Rooms are clean and spacious and the extensive lawned area outside gives wonderful views over the surrounding hills. Service is excellent and includes a trek to nearby Tiger Hill at dawn to watch the sunrise, which was most enjoyable. This hotel offers a welcome break from the hectic pace of urban India.

We (Me and wife) were there for our honeymoon trip. We stayed for 3 nights.

Pros:
====
1.Ambience of the hotel was very good. It 's a old British mansion converted into a hotel.
It has this old world charm with wooden furniture and fireplace in every room.
2.Staff was polite and courteous. Food was good but expensive.
3.Location of the hotel is excellent in terms of view , since it's situated high on the hill and the view from the hotel is amazing. From one side you can see the Nilgiri mountains and the other side you can see the ooty town.
4.The garden is worth mentioning. It is very well maintained, complete with a La "forrest gump" bench and few chairs and tables.

Cons:
=====
1.Tarrif's a bit bloated.
2.Location !! It's quite far from the ooty town and one needs a car/cab to reach the hotel.
You cannot just walk to the city.
3.Rooms are cold in rainy season. Although a fire place it provided, it's just for aesthetic purpose.
4.Make sure the geezer in your room is working !
5.There are few rooms which open directly into the dining hall. If possible avoid those rooms.

All in all an good place to stay if you have your own vehicle.
