“Worth visiting”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

The museum is divided into two sections, starting with information panels on the fight for freedom from the British empire. It was enlightening to read about the struggle for freedom and to gain a better understanding of the way the British misbehaved in India.

Like a sort of afterthought, there is also a section with exhibits about Mahatma Gandhi. We skipped most of this, having spent a lot of time reading about the freedom fight and looking at books and other items from a person's life is not my favourite pastime.

I learned more in this museum than I had expected and consider it well worth a visit.

A very well designed and informative museum. Definitely needs support of many more visitors. Not the easiest place to get to, but well worth the trouble.

“Nothing Great”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

This museum should be named as Freedom Fight of India.
There only posters giving detailed history on freedom fight .
Blood stained cloths of Mahatma Gandhi can make you emotional.
Poorly maintained probably on account of lack of funds.

“never on a Friday”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

Yes, this museum encapsulates the history of India's struggle for freedom since the arrival of westerners several hundred years ago in pursuit of spices and other riches. It describes the terrible oppression by the East India Company (which was news to me) and by the British, with notable exceptions. The it focuses rightly on the achievements of Gandhi, who is presented understandably as a Christ-like figure, culminating in the display of the dhoti he was wearing when he was shot and killed (I saw nothing about the actual shooting, but then it the villain was an Indian fanatic, not a greedy western power) The peace garden outside and a kind of shrine to Ghandi were lovely.
Just don;t do as I did and attempt to visit on a Friday, Many museums in India close on Mondays, this one, and its smaller neighbours are closed on Fridays,
