Owner description: Experience the culture of Madurai with this private tour of its ancient temples. Spend approximately 45 minutes visiting each of the Dravidian temples built by the Pandyan and Madurai Nayak kings, earning the city its nickname Koil Maanagar, which means Temple City. Discover why Madurai, also called the City of Junctions or Koodal Nagaram, is one of India's most outstanding Hindu pilgrimage centers.

The temple is really amazing. The entrances are so wonderful that you simply can not guess that those can be entrances and not the temple. So the first sight to the entrances gives you a immense satisfaction of your visit. Once inside, further you will be cherished for your wonderful trip to Meenakshi temple at Madurai. Each pillar is carved with wonderful sculpture. There are so many carving and each one of them is marvelous. Its a place worth visiting once in life time. People are very good there. Even you can get guides who'll explain its history and explain the carvings very well.

After I've saw the photo of this Temple in my friend's album, I immediately decided not to leave India until I see that place. My wish came true and I just felt it as a special event in my life! This is something extremely impressional, beautyful and amazing! Even now, when I show my own photos of it, everybody feels the same I've felt!

One of the must see place in Madurai. It is a place for casual, religious, heritage visits. The temple has a long history behind it and you can imagine how this temple must have been long back. Sit beside the lotus tank in the evenings or a walk along the temple courtyard gives you a perspective of the local people visiting the temple. Marvel at the architecture & the carved deities & other representations. Photography is prohibited in some of the areas of the temple and do not wear foot wears in the temple. Do not walk in the open area during hot days as you may get burns easily walking with bare foot. Dressing requires to be a bit conservative.
There are not many restroom options and not clean per standards in many other countries. This needs some improvement. Approaching it may be difficult as some of the area has been cordoned recently for vehicles. Leave the footwear near the counters at the entrance of the temple.
Overall: Must see place
Tips: If you dont have much time to visit but require to visit the inner sanctums, beat the queue by purchasing special tickets, you can get closer view of the deities. Sometimes, the queue can be very long. Decide the purchase of ticket based on the length of the queue.Inquire at the counter for right ticket as there are few other tickets for pujas as well.

The temple is huge with an entrance to the main deity via all four directions. It is beautiful temple with amazing architecture and the temple pond is simply amazing. The pillars (over 1000 pillars) have carving which when closely observed narrates a story. The ceilings have painting - simply amazing.
