Ideally located in the heart of Madurai city Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal is a Palace to be visited by all tourists. The height and width of the pillars are to be seen and believed. It is a wonder how they were built as early as the 17th century. The renovation of the palace is taken up by the Indian Archeological dept. phase by phase. The entry fee is nominal. Inside the Palace some stone sculptures are kept,
of which several are damaged. Still worth the look. There is a light and sound show in the evening first in English and then later in Tamil. The show is for about 45 minutes. Worth the effort as with the lighting the palace looks beautiful. Lot of improvement is required in the maintenance of the Mahal. The visitors should also cooperate in maintaining the Mahal by not writing on the pillars and the walls.
