The room was spacious, with fresh towels and a big clean bathroom. The staff was friendly in a casual, not pushy way. The newspaper slipped under the doors in the morning was the final touch to the general feeling of satisfaction. Might have a been a bit cheaper though, the 1500 Ri seems about 300-500 too much for that room;)

Room was comfortable and offered a nice view over the city. Unfortunately there were people working on the street in front of the hotel from 9 pm till 5 am in the morning. Sleeping was really hardly possible even with earplugs - as we spend 1 night only we cannot say if this was an exception or standard. The roof-top restaurant is a little naked but the stuff there is really kind. The stuff at the reception however was not really kind: first tried to force us to book another night with the argument "if you don't stay we'll refund your money". When we left, it turned out that it was a 24h hotel (so no fixed checkout time). As we were too late (11 am) they wanted us to pay extra money - not till we became really loud they let us go. So I think if we would have paid an extra night in advance, we would have get no money back. So beware of cheating by the reception.

ok I'm going to start with the pros, because there were a few... hotel padmam is in a good location, 10 mins walk from sri meenakshi temple and the roof garden has a cool view over the city. the staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful and if you need some over-priced beer, the staff are eager to supply it.

so to the cons, and this is a long list. we ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night and by the following morning two out of three of us had food poisoning. we subsequently spend new year's eve sick in our hotel rooms, not the best start to 2014. the rooms themselves were hot, noisy and dirty - never serviced in the three days we were there. the view from my room was of a brick wall. please do yourselves a favour and never ever book onward travel through this hotel. we were conned into taking a '3 hour direct bus to kodaikanal' to quote the words of the reception staff. seven hours later and many many stops for photos of monkeys, waterfalls, random views and we still weren't there. in the end we stopped the bus and took a taxi. all that for more than double the price of a local bus from the bus stand in madhurai, which would have taken us to kodai in half the time. wifi is available, but only in reception which is infested by mosquitoes in the evenings to seemingly ensure you only use it for a little while. there was no hot water in the shower at any time, the toilet flush leaked so much that it didn't flush properly and my bathroom was also occupied by cockroaches.

I've stayed in many hotels in India and this was the worst by a country mile. do yourselves a favour and avoid this place like the plague.

Room Tip: find a different hotel and stay there instead

Pros :
Nice place to stay which is the best part of the hotel.Strategically located at a short walk from the railway station and the bus stand. From main bus stand which is 7-8 kms away you will get a direct bus near the town hall, from there hotel is walk-able. Hotel Padmam is a convenient stay option for visiting Meenakshi Amman temple. We got room no 305 which was nice as from the room balcony we can see the nice view of all the temple gates.
The food ordered for dinner at the roof top restaurant was very tasty, clean, higenic and loved the way they serve.
Did pre-booking of the hotel and reached little late though they planned the room and reserved the room for us.
Room service was good and whatever we requested. Overall happy with the hotel and the service provided.

Cons:
Hotel and rooms need to be re-painted as i think time has come.
Hot water was not coming in the evening as there was some time limit so we have to ask for bucket of water to take bath at night times.
Breakfast was served at roof top which was not having proper shade so we have to wait for the table which is in some cold/shadowed place.
parking own vehicle may be a challenge in the narrow roads near hotel.

Old, dull rooms which are not maintained well. Location of this hotel is a absolute steal but thats the only good thing about this hotel. Breakfast was in the terrace, which was filthy. And for the price you pay, there are better hotels next to it which are new! the staff were scary and not friendly. On top of it, they did power maintanance in the middle of the hot day, which was not intimated to us before and they disconnected the call when tried calling them during the outage. No courtesy call or even an apology for their acts. Please stay away from this hotel and go for better rated hotels.

Dear Sir,

we have made a extensive investigation on your concern with the hotel staff and these are our findings.
1. you have stayed in room with temple view and balcony, which faces the front side of the property which is always bright.
2. we are working on the breakfast area and on your next visit you will find the facility in a better place.
3. the power maintenance was an unexpected one. so we had to take it up ASAP.l and for that reason we had given you a good discount and 4 hrs grace period after your check out time which could have been considered by you.
request you to kindly portray the original scenarios which happened. thank you for staying with us and would look forward in serving you better the next time.

regards,
Ramprabhu

Very good location, easy walk from railway station and to temple. Spacious clean and comfortable room with view from balcony to temple, 4th floor is best. Shops all close by. Friendly and welcoming staff on front desk and in rooftop cafe. Indeed, the rooftop could be even better with a few more tables and some sunshades. Very odd that the owners don't make more of it, a superb place for all meals. Wifi only in the lobby, a good spot to hang out and chat to fellow travellers.

I stayed here for one night in a nice room with television. Service and stuff was very friendly.
Breakfast on the rooftop was included.
The hotel is located just a few walking minutes from the temple.
