My stay at Aakriti was my first taste of India. From the moment I arrived I fell in love - with the family, my bungalow, food and surroundings. Beauty, ease and grace made appearances with every generous and thoughtful act on behalf from my lovely hosts. I still miss it and didn't want to leave!

Room Tip: Ask for the bay window bungalow with the birds nest outside!

We had a really great stay at Aakriti. The accommodation was spacious, characterful and comfortable. Our hosts were knowledgable and informative. They very welcoming and helpful and always flexible in responding to our wishes. The food was great and we would happily return to this special place.

We had heard that this was an excellent home stay and were not disappointed. Our accommodation/bungalow was large, light and even equipped with a UK square 3 pin socket. Lovely to sit in the bay window in the sun and relax etc. The family include you in their daily meals and even though they have shown many visitors round the tea factory or the market in Ooty you were made to feel as though you were the first ones and they were so informative. Both Rajat and Ravi, his father, are interested in the goings on in India and the world so if you want a discussion they are always up for it. Equally if you want to have time to do nothing that is fine. The food cooked by Renu is vegetarian and lovely and being first timers in India, learning to eat with our fingers was fun. We enjoyed our three day stay greatly and will probably be back.

This was a very important holiday to me and my family. I had wanted to travel to India for an authentic experience for many years.
Staying with this family was amazing. They were fantastic hosts: so welcoming, knowledgeable, generous and the food was outstanding. We learnt so much and got a true sense of many different aspects of Indian life. The family were great with the kids and we felt very much a part of their family whilst we were there. They have stayed in touch since and continue to welcome us to have a relationship with India.

Room Tip: We stayed in a self contained unit/cottage which was spacious and had everything we could need.

This was a pleasant home stay, in a beautiful part of India. We enjoyed our walk through the countryside and learned a lot from Rajat about the tea industry. The food was plentiful and excellent. The family was very welcoming and gracious.
We were somewhat frustrated by the lack of internet in our rooms, as I was keeping a regular blog of our trip and being able to keep in touch with family was important to all of us. The reason given was that the hosts didn't want their guests holed up in their rooms all day on the computer. I felt that this was our choice to make and resented the implication.
The location and surroundings were lovely. However, guests are totally dependent on the hosts for getting anywhere. We tend to like more independence and would choose to be closer to markets/villages etc next time.

All the terrific reviews you read about Aakriti and the Kumars are absolutely true. Staying with them in the Nilgiri mountains in the Western Ghats is a wonderful experience. You have your own delightful cottage in their garden but you eat with the family in their home and you are treated like a loved family friend. They are an educated, informed family who arrange an excellent range of activities and accompany you wherever you go; guiding, informing and entertaining. I took country walks, travelled on the famous steam train, visited a local market and cooked fabulous food with Renu, the mother of the family. The whole experience exceeded expectations and will stay in my memory forever.

We spent just one night with the Kumars and it was one of the highlights of our four week visit to Southern India. Had we realised what a great experience it was going to be we would have booked several days at Aakriti. We loved the beautiful views from our cottage, the delicious food but above all we enjoyed the conversation, being treated as part of an Indian family and having the opportunity to ask lots of questions about life in India. In just a short space of time we felt we really deepened our experience of India and we hope very much to go back to Aakriti soon.
