O'land Plantation Stay
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 17, 2013

The retreat is located amidst beautiful tea estates interspersed with many other plants and trees. It is well-designed and has a very beautiful rustic feel to it. Our entire stay was for 3 nights/4 days, of which we stayed for 1 night in the Estate House and the remaining 2 nights in the Hornbill house. The stay in the Hornbill house was an out of the world experience. Waking up to a beautiful sunrise in the French window was an inexplicable experience. The only "noises" one can hear here would be the chirping of some beautiful, rare birds and insects in the thickly grown tea plantations. The place is away from the hustle-bustle of the cities and towns and is a paradisical getaway from the routine. A quiet walk down the tea plantations also revives the spirits.

There were a couple of things we loved the most here. One, was the number of coffee/ tea/ dairy whitener sachets placed in the room. Even during our stay at some of the other so-called "star hotels and resorts", we have had to go through the trouble of asking for a refill every now and then. But, here that was no issue at all. We didn't have to ask to ask for a refill even once. The rooms and bathrooms were spic and span. The view was refreshingly beautiful. And the food was served on time and was very tasty. In fact, they made it point to tell us what they were going to serve in the next meal and if we were okay with that.

However, on the downside (which I still would say is the plus-side :-D) is that Hornbill house is a short distance (about 400-500m) away from the estate and pepper houses. To reach the hornbill house, one would have to tread through a narrow path, which passes through a small waterfall (which was dry during this time of the year), and is unlit in the evenings. Also, there are about 20 stairs leading to the house itself, which might be a tough ask if you plan to travel and stay there with any elderly people in the group. There is no telephone connection or room service to the rooms and one has to go the the estate house for all the meals. So, make it a point to stay in the Estate house or Pepper house if you plan to travel with elderly people.

The team is extremely hospitable. A special thanks to Mr. Sajjan, who runs the estate. He is very helpful and has been a great host. He made sure we were comfortable throughout the trip, right from reaching the place itself. And thanks to Mr. Islam, who cooked and served us all the meals.

We stayed at this place for our anniversary. It was very nice of the team to have remembered this (which we mentioned on the call during booking) and placing a beautiful card in the room, by the time we reached there. It will remain a beautiful souvenir for us to remember the stay forever.

In short:
Positive:
Almost everything!
-> The rooms
-> The environment
-> The hospitatlity
-> The food
-> The cleanliness
-> The overall experience

Negative:
Not really anything at all!
-> Lack of telephone/ room service
-> Walk to the hornbill house in the dark
Both of these matter only if one has any elderly people in the group. But, like I said earlier, in which case, one can always opt for the Estate/ Pepper house.

Room Tip: Hornbill house has the largest rooms, with the best view and privacy. But go for a room in Pepper Ho...

This very beautifully designed retreat is a perfect getaway from the din of the cities. The terrain is exploratory and calling...tea / coffee plantations, green forests, prettiest flowers, birds and insects I hadn't seen or heard before - they all come together here. And you also get to stay among all of this in a eco friendly rooms, beautifully designed with big windows that bring you as close as can be to your surroundings.

The entire place is somewhat rustic, rugged ...yet clean and comfortable. The chef makes you feel a part of the family and the staff are very pleasant and polite. I traveled down here with my parents. Sajan & Jamuna are wonderful hosts and even went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

Room Tip: Recommend that elders traveling stay at the Estate house, unless you are really young enough at hear...

We stayed here for 3 nights. Two couples and 4 kids aged 3 to 7. Thanks to Sajan and his team for hosting us. We had a really wonderful stay. Having stayed in innumerable estate bungalows with tea gardens, this was a refreshing change with the forest allowed to grow wild within the property! Absolutely nothing to complain about except that o'land has raised the bar and I dont know how to satisfy the kids on our next holiday!

How could I have been so far away from home, but felt as though I was home? Sajan and Jamuna welcomed us as family. The lodge and the rooms were even more beautiful than the pictures suggest. The beauty of the location is impossible to capture with photos. Be sure to get up at dawn and watch the mist evaporate and the lush valley reveal itself. Pure bliss!

Amazingly cool calm and serene place to spend some time out of busy city life. Hospitality at its best, Mr. Sajjan was too courteous and humble. Provided all possible help whether it was about driving directions or during stay. Amazing national geographic book collection in library. This place is quite far from Ooty so you need to keep driving directions very handy and also keep asking otherwise you may get lost. Now coming to some point to point review. First let me write all positives

- Property is at the edge of forest, so you get very close to nature feeling even from rooms if staying in pepper house or in hornbill .
- If you have very small kids and elderly please go for Estate House as other room are far and have stairs.. ( please remember not normal house stairs but high stone steps)
- If you want view from room don't go for estate house
- Very good view from Room (I stayed in Pepper House)
- Property have water fall but you need to go in session for the same.
- Amazing food
- Very good dense forest walk, even you can goduring mid noon without getting scared of sun

On negative parts. ( I was not happy with first part only but otherwise I have no complaints.)
- Rooms does not have basic toiletry which I think should get included for such price rage hotel/resort e.g. toothpaste, shampoo, shower-cap
- No room service (in normal conditions) and I was ok with that but just writing this if you are not ok :)
- Living area in Pepper house should have some more comfortable sitting arrangement as you can not sit long on current chairs.

Room Tip: - If you have very small kids and elderly please go for Estate House as other room are far and have...
