There is the risk of a review of Acres Wild turning out to be reminiscing about the enchanting owners of the property. They are indeed the USP of Acres Wild Cheese Farm.

The property comprises of cottages which are unique in the experience they provide. We happened to stay in the Cheddar House which is the farthest from the common amenities and closest to wilderness. The stay was extremely pleasant and the owners' personal attention went a long way in making it so. A word of caution…don't expect the professionalism of a commercial establishment. The service has rough edges. You need to set an expectation of a visiting house guest albeit with a lot of privacy.

The lodgings are basic but comfortable. Everything in the kitchen were functional and well-maintained. The meals were simple, nourishing and adequate. There is a scope of bringing variations in the menu. There are ample activities in which one of any age can keep oneself busy throughout the day.

To sum it up, Acres Wild is a perfect get-away for a weekend in nature but still not get deprived of discerning company.

Room Tip: Cheddar is closest to jungle, but being on the eastern slope gets sun light in the first half.

This was our first farm stay experience, and was just floored.

About the host
Mansoor was an absolutely wonderful host, made us feel completely at home. Down to earth and one of the most intellectual persons i have come across. He made it a point to spend time with us during meals and made us feel comfortable. I really enjoyed the discussions about his book.

About the farm
The cottages are done very tastefully and are ideal for relaxation. We stayed at the Colby and it made us feel at home during vacation with a small kitchenette, a fridge, an induction plate some utensils etc. The washrooms were very clean and the bed very comfortable. The larger cottages also have operational fireplaces that ads on to the cozy feeling of the property. The food is simple, hygienic and tasty. There are no televisions in the room because the entire idea is to enjoy the serene surroundings. The staff is friendly and
For all you guys planning to visit, a heads up : " This is not a resort", don't plan a visit here if you wan't rooms with plush decors and 24 X 7 room service. BTW we didn't mind this at all.

Better late than never....been too late in writing this review but doing it nonetheless..
It was our 3rd visit to Coonoor...this time with the toddler in tow. Previous stays were at the company guesthouse...with some great food and views.
This time we picked this place based on reviews online and on the lonely planet magazine.
Interacted with Mansoor via mails and he was truly helpful in getting us to decide...
On arrival, there was some hitches. We hardly found a soul in the famstay and were a little worried. Calls to the hosts went unanswered. After about 25 mins, the lady who works in the kitchen, came and helped us in reaching the room and settling down. We were disappointed to learn Mansoor and Tina whom I was eager to meet were away at Mumbai. I knew they had a planned vacation in June but this had happened earlier ... Had I known, I would have been perhaps prepared ... But people I was soo keen to meet were not around.
Anyways, we stayed at the Colby cottage for 3 N. comfy and convenient ... Except for the noises on the roof at night which was a little scary at times especially for the little one. oh and yeah, there was a little rat which had entered our room creating quite a scare ... The managers were able to shoo them away only the next day ( since we noticed and complained to them at night about the little bratty rat).
The managers at the farm unfortunately did not know much about the hidden touristy places in Coonoor which I am sure Mansoor would have helped us with.
Food simple and nice with the caretakers ever ready to customize. They made some yummy khichdi for the kiddo. We even bought back some of the soft cheeses home.
Kiddo loved the cow shed, the animals on the farm and the free open spaces to run around ...
The drive to the farm is a little too curvy and needs some expert driving skills.
Coonoor is always close to my heart for its unparalleled views, serene locales and not too touristy unlike its cousin ooty.
Will come back to Wild acres the next time, only iffff Mansoor and Tina are around to host us !!

Mansoor and Tina are extremely gracious hosts and make you feel right at home. Acres Wild is on the valley slope and the entire property gives stunning views of the hilly magnificence of the Nilgiris.

The cottages are done very tastefully and are ideal for relaxation. We stayed at the Colby and found it to be just the ideal home during vacation with a small kitchenette, a fridge, an induction plate some utensils etc. The washrooms were very clean and the bed very comfortable. The larger cottages also have operational fireplaces that ads on to the cozy feeling of the property.

The surprise in all the cottages though are the variety of books that are kept inside all the cupboards, right from Phantom comics, to Filmfares to the complete works of Oscar Wilde.

The common room where guests can sit down for a meal has a spectacular view of the mountain side, through huge bay windows. Mansoor and Tina sit down with guest for every meal, and the conversation is always sparkling. Attached to the dining area is a game room with 2 relaxing chairs for reading (lots more books are stuffed in the cupboards here), 1 billiards table, 1 carom board, 1 foosball table. For us addicts of the Urban Jungle, there is also a flatscreen TV with Cable and a DVD player (dont know if they supply DVDs too as we did not switch the TV at all). And there is free WiFi too!!! This entire space has ceilings with wooden beams and wooden floors that makes it grand.

The food served is simple, hygienic, and has loads of flavour, made fresh and to order, with options for veg as well as non veg (only chicken). Breakfast is included in the package and usually has south indian fare. You can get eggs to order and yes, there is fresh ricotta cheese daily to sample with breakfast.

Cheese Making: This is what makes Acres Wild really unique. Acres Wild makes all their cheese from milk from their own cows on the property. We were able to see the entire process, understand the what and the why of it, see how the cheese is stored, and also sample some of the hard cheese (luckily as they were cutting some for taking to a wedding). Did not know that the entire art of cheese making was such a technical process though. You can also purchase all the different cheeses at the Cheese Cottage.

Ideal for: A 2 day getaway, if you want to completely relax and re - energize.

ALL THIS AND THE CHARGES ARE REALLY REASONABLE.

Note: There is no Room Service, so you will have to take whatever you need before heading to respective rooms or cottages. But we did not mind that at all.

Room Tip: 1 couple - stay at the Colby. Larger groups (upto 6) stay at Haloumi. Both are closer to the Cheese...

We were stunned by the beauty of this place from the moment we got out of the rickshaw at the top of the hill. The farm is so beautiful! We booked for 2 nights but ended up staying a third (luckily the room was available!) Mansoor and Tina were helpful, as were their staff. Raja, the chef cooked some of the best food we had during our two weeks in India. Our son loved waking up to the cows munching on grass outside our window. Oh, and the cheese we had with breakfast was soooo yummy.

cheese-eating's my weakness, so cheese-making was the next natural step...finding the acres wild experience was the fulfilment....
Coonoor itself is nothing but beautiful mountains, peaceful valleys, tea estates, quiet away from the maddening crowds of 'hill stations', and a major (cheese)slice of that lies nestled inside the cozy arms of Acres Wild...a few Km. out of coonoor, on a tea estate cum dairy farm.
It's a farm stay, so if you are looking for 5* amenities, please go elsewhere, and leave this gorgeous property to those who want a quiet holiday, watching the cows munch grass (there was actually an indian couple who had brought their daughter to see just that!). If you like to have delightful company, supplied by your host, Mansur, and other like-minded guests...and if you would like to learn to make simple fresh cheeses like Mozzarella and Fetta in the engaging company of Tina the cheese-expert (not to mention sampling the innumerable hard cheeses she creates there)...then this is the pace for you to have a sublime holiday.
The property itself is charming, isolated, and a bird lover's paradise.

Room Tip: stay in one of the cottages near the dining area if you do not have your own vehicle....the cheddar...

Highly recommend as a weekend gateway from Bangalore, you will love the cottages and the company of legendary Bollywood director. It was nice discussing the "third Curve" his book over the dinner. The cottages are equipped with almost every household stuffs, and you can even cook by yourself. Good place to learn the cheese making and bird watching.
Just come here and do nothing
A perfect gateway to relax.
