Coonoor is the most beautiful and serene hill station in the picturesque Nilgiri Hills (Blue Mountains) of the Western Ghats. It is situated at an altitude of around 1900 meters and just 20 km before Ooty, the most visited hill station in the Nilgiri Hills.
Coonoor is a delightful location to have a panoramic view of the Nilgiri Hills and tea gardens. Coonoor is a dream come true for writers, painters, poets & nature enthusiasts due to its rich greenery, the manicured hills, Colonial culture, base of the Madras Regiment and amazing sceneries, which will leave tourists relaxed and inspired. While in Coonoor tourists can completely lose themselves to nature and its eternal beauty.
LOCATION OF THE XANADU:
The stretch of road leading from Coonoor to Kotagiri is carpeted with lush green tea gardens. Parts of these tea estates are slowly being converted into gated communities where beautiful villas are built. One such cluster of 56 villas called SERENITY is at Yedappalli village which is approx. 10 kms from Coonoor Railway station.
The Xanadu is one such three bedrooms villa overlooking the majestic Nilgiri hills. The villa has been built & furnished tastefully by the Owners and for which they deserve special compliments. But for a few minor things, the villa takes care of all needs of the guests. The plot on which the villa is built is ideally located directly overlooking the Nilgiri Hills and the view is not obstructed by ant other villa in front. On a clear night, one can see Mettupalaym (starting base before climbing up the Nilgiri Hills to reach Coonoor) glittering with lights.
The Xanadu is an ideal place to relax and get rejuvenated.
The villa has 3 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and all the three bedrooms have full height glass partition which enable sunrise view from the beds. Out of three bedrooms, one bedroom’s bathroom has Jacuzzi and four heads shower. Out of the three bedrooms two have double beds and the third has twin beds. The bedrooms lack ventilation when the doors (main door and the door opening in the front side courtyard) are closed and the Owners, being aware of this small issue, are finding solution to the same.
The living room has (a) sitting arrangement for 8 people minimum, (b) Smart TV with DVD player, Tata Sky connection and Netflix connection.
Adjacent to the living room is dining table for 6 (with a possibility to sit 8 persons) and an open modular kitchen with the gas stove. The main kitchen is behind this open kitchen with a two-door fridge. The kitchen has sufficient crockery to take care of 6 to 8 guests including wine glasses and also water purifier system.
The villa has two lawns and flower beds – one in front of the living room and three bedrooms overlooking the mountains (for viewing sunrise) and the second near the main entrance (for viewing sunset).
Unfortunately the villa under construction on the adjoining plot almost touches the fence of the Xanadu’s fence. Hopefully, the Owners can block the view of this adjacent villa by planting good creepers on the common fence.
Each room and en-suite bathroom are equipped/ provided with (i) comfortable beds and mattresses, (ii) comforter and pillows, (iii) good quality linen, toiletries and towels.
Mr. Dharam Singh is the caretaker in charge of the villa and he also cooks food as per the fixed menu. The rates are inclusive of breakfast and at our request, we were served with vegetarian breakfast on all 5 mornings. Both the breakfasts and dinners were sumptuous, though options were few. During the day, Mr. Dharam Singh is assisted by a lady to clean the rooms, bathrooms and the villa. We felt that in order to take care of various needs of guests (particularly when all the guests are not part of one group), one more hand to assist Mr. Dharam Singh, at least during dinner time, would add to the comforts of the guests.
Ms. Miriam Wilson, the Manager, who stays in Coonoor is also available when the guests check in and whenever otherwise needed.
The villa has a small but good library of books besides smart TV with DVD player etc. There are also a few board games.
The guests can enjoy walk on the lawns each morning & evening. The grass (moist with rain water or dew) acts as good acupressure treatment on feet.
As the villa is located on the outskirts of Coonoor, the sky is clear at night (except during monsoon) and guests can view the sky with telescope (not available on the property).
The Guests’ directory lists various tourist places (with basic information) which can be visited during day time.
Considering the location of the villa, there is a possibility of wild life, particularly Bisons, and, therefore, guests are advised not to step out after it gets dark.
Café Diem is located very close to the villa for authentic Italian cuisine.
The Culinarium is one more such place for fine dining. The same is located on the road from Coonoor to Ooty.
There are other few places in Coonoor and Ooty where guests can hang out for lunch.
Coonoor produces good quality of varieties of high end tea. The Owner recommends a place for tea tasting. In our view, the Owner can serve different varieties of such tea to guests during tea time in the late afternoon.
we stayed in month of june ...and it was one of the most beautiful trip we had.Property is very nice and enjoyed walking on the lawns in the morning.Service is pretty good and the caretaker Dharam singh was very nice.Overall a pleasant experience.
i would certainly come back and stay here.Thankyou Aparna mam for the guidance.
Well, the place xannadu is one of its kind , and I feel very lucky to be there for a couple of days. The view from the lawn of xannadu , where the mountain meets the plains with cloudy sky above gives extreme pleasure to your eyes. Words fall short to describe such place . I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.
Hospitality and service were as good as the place itself, kudos to Dharam Singh.
Definitely, I am visiting this place again.
Exceptionally beautiful and serene place. Excellent hospitality. Worth every penny spent! Forget sightseeing , once you get here all you'd want to do is spend time on the villa , cosy up with a book or just enjoy the gorgeous view! Will definitely visit again
Xanadu is a different world and you'll be stunned if you get a chance to live there. The beauty you see with naked eyes just cannot be captured through a lens so, the photos just cannot do justice to the real splendid view Xanadu offers. Aparna who owns Xanadu did make sure we have a great holiday and the care taker, Dharam Singh, took care of us really well.
Last but not the least, wake up for the sunrise, don't miss it at all - If you miss the Sunrise from Xanadu, you're missing a lot.
Our idea was to get some quiet family time - well appointed villa to do just that against a lovely backdrop. Entire experience was smooth, from booking to bye-bye. Thanks.
Xanadu is a little gem of a place situated about 8 kms from coonoor. It is perched on the edge of the cliff which is what is the best part of the house. Mornings and evenings are dream like to see the sun set and rise right into your room. The house itself is very tastefully done with no compromise on quality in all the amenities provided. From the crockery to the linen everything is well chosen.
The housekeeper is friendly and can stir up a pretty decent meal.
WHo needs food when you have such an ambience.
The owner Aparna is but a phone call away and extremely helpful.
The perfect place to chill and do nothing but laze, walk, eat and read.
Activities etc are not far way if one wants to pack in but......
Will definitely come back ...
