I'd recommend Wallwood garden for its location and the beautiful garden that is part of the property. Its a charming bungalow with a fireplace and tastefully done up rooms. We had initially booked Pine room but it turned out to be very musty and so we stayed in Gulomhar instead which was comfortable and had a collection of the most interesting paintings.
The living area/veranda has a nice view of what looks like a botanical garden, very green and quite a sight for sore eyes. We'd recommend against opening the full length windows lest you let in the monkeys outside. There is also a moderately stocked bookcase which can last you a couple of days. Also, did I mention free wifi?
The service was comfortable and staff very helpful. They even lit a fire in the fireplace during our stay. The food was good and the crockery very quaint.
The property is well located, very close to Sims park and not too far from the centre of town. The little lanes that lead off the main road make for nice walks with great views.

Room Tip: Pick Eucalyptus for a good view and Acacia for direct access to the garden

It is a lovely property, located a few meters away from the beautiful Sims Park. Geeta and her staff are extremely responsive and courteous. The "non" hotel is an old bungalow converted into a hotel. A nice place to relax and unwind. The rooms are well maintained and beautifully appointed.

We, a group of family friends, a large contingent of 18 adults and children had an excellent experience of stay at Wallwood. 3 nights, they just flew by...never ever felt that something is lacking in terms of comfort and service.
To say about the staff - never experienced such hospitality, always at call and quick service. We were lucky to spend some time with the owner and curator of the colonial bungalow.

The best place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature away from hustle-bustle of Coonoor town and the now ever crowded and noisy Ooty.

Room Tip: All the rooms are fantastic. The annexe rooms are quiet and have good space.

3kms away from the hustle and bustle of central Coonoor this Neemrana 'non-hotel' made our stay at Coonoor worth it. Sim's park, which is the major attraction of the town, is just a few hundred meters. We found some shopping options at Bedford which is also just a km or so from Neemrana. The cottages are well maintained. The furniture is old and that gives an antique feel. The staff at Neemraana are very hospitable and they make every effort to make your stay extremely pleasant. The food is quite good too. The complimentary breakfast has jams made by the Neemrana group and some of them were plain awesome ... especially the pear jam.

So as you arrive in Coonor and think where am I staying; the town is hectic and different from Ooty. But as you start to climb a little out from the centre and the Wallwood Garden hotel comes into view you can breath a sigh of relief. The entrance is that of an old house and the inside is decorated accordingly. They describe themselves as a non hotel, and this has to be taken into account when staying here, it is an experience in its own right, back to a bygone age. We had the Cherry Blossom room which is one of the rooms in the annexe a short distance from the main hotel. It is spacious and clean with the usual facilities but no fridge in the room. In the room a portable heater is provided and in February was certainly needed, it is much cooler than the plains. The room has a plug in inspect repellent but due to the cooler weather it is probably not necessary.Sitting in front of a fire in the main house in the evening was not something we had anticipated but it was very nice. Service at arrival was excellent Geetha explained everyting very well.A choice of Indian or European meals was offered in the evening, vegetarians are well catered for. We came here for the train ride Coonor to Ooty but on reflection would have been better doing the lower ride up to Coonor which like the approach road looked very interesting. We had to cut our stay here short by a night due to a national strike but even then the help to get us away at short notice was excellent. Again alcohol from memory was not served here, bringing your own is OK.

Room Tip: Our room was very large and once the heater got to work was warm, Staying in the house may be a good option also.
