“Azhiyaar Dam ... Too Hot & OK OK”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Not a Must Visit ... Its for families with packed lunches just could be an outing ... only in winter ... My visit even in winter afternoon was hot ... inspite of water full at the dam, still not a very nice place to hang around ... Walk at the dam was nice

“Always a great place to enjoy the scenic beauty of the dam”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

i am quite sure everyone will have the great feeling about the scenic beauty of aliyar dam. if u have a lazy walk on the wall of the dam, just enjoy the scenic beauty, the dam is surrounded by mountains, you can surely compare this view to some of the lakes in British Virgin islands or norway lakes

“Dam ..... The water body has a dream look”
Reviewed June 6, 2012

Azhiyar dam water body has a dream look. The sprawling water body has the mountains in the background. After going up the foothills , one is flabbergasted at eht sight of the water body to the right. On the hill slope opposite to the water body is a small lovely stream next to the road. Cool yourselves before proceeding to Valparai.

“Don't stop with the dam - There are other gems beyond”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

Aliyar dam is nice, but keep going..you will reach a nice little bridge and power generation stations beyond which is the Monkey falls - a beautiful natural water fall. During monsoon season in Kerala, there is plenty of water. If you are going through Pollachi pick up some to go lunches from restaurants there, there are nice picnic spots where you can have picnic lunch near the dam or near Monkey falls - but leave no trace..and clean up while you leave. Also, in the vicinity; on the way from Pollachi to Monkey falls there is the Vethathiri Maharishi (Vazhga Vallamudan) Yogashram which is a great place to calm down and may be pick up a few spiritual books/CD's in the bookshop there. If you have time after the falls, try going to top slip which i believe need to be entered before sunset or you can drive to Valparai on a very scenic mountainous route (~40- 50 U turns) with tea plantations on the both sides. In Valparai the Balaji temple is worth visiting. This is a great day trip. If you start early from Coimbatore/Tiruppur/Pollachi you can easily make it back by nightfall after visiting all these places.
