We stayed at Jagat Retreat Udaipur for 2 nights before a week and were travelling with 3 couples and 4 children (age 7 to 9). It was a good peaceful stay. Food quality is good as it is just like home made food. Variety is less but clean. They could add more to desserts. It is not that well lit in the night but the gardens are well maintained. The cottages are cute and comfortable for 2 adults travelling with 2 children as there is a unique "zarokha". There is a nice sit out outside the cottage with a swing, tables and chairs, so one could have drinks and enjoy the evening there. For those travellers who have not come by car, its not the best place to stay as chetak circle is 20 minutes by car from Jagat Retreat. The approach road to the resort is not great as well but then the table tennis, volleyball and cricket options available make up for it. Also did not have a chance to meet the owners but they seemed to be nice people. There is a dog(german shepherd) there but its very mild and does not even come near the guests. It just keeps on following a small child who i think is the owners kid.
During the trip we had lunch at Gateway (just outside city palace) was very good. Highly recommended. We had all gone to have food at Palkhi khana but it was closed because of Mewar Day. Also travellers can visit Fatehgarh for dinner and hang out at 1559 AD bistro. Nice hang out places nearby Jagat Retreat. Trident is also close by which is nice too. Jagat is more of a place for people seeking privacy or families who want to be out of the hustle and bustle of the routine traffic and and are more nature lovers. One thing i can guarantee is that you would not hear any sound in the night. A good nights sleep is ensured. Suggestions to the management include more lights put up in the garden which can be on at night, A pick up-drop to city by hotel for foreign tourists/ or travels not having own vehicle, Add more variety to food and management could add a small library as its a nice place to read books in the garden which overlooks the mountains. Overall good. Will go back again some day.

Room Tip: All rooms have a good view. We stayed in rooms 111,112,113,114 all were good

I visited it twice. In the first visit it was heavenly but in the second visit it had become unclean, old and weary. The staff was good in both visits and owners are very kind and the two dogs of the owners are fun to play with! It is a value for money resort overall!!!

This is the third or fourth time we have stayed at Jagat in the last 5 years. But I guess this would be our last time. Overall the hotel was very clean and nice, but the food and service was very weak. We got the fixed meal plan and we hated it. Dinner for which they charged Rs 600 only had daal bati and Gatta ki Sabji. We had to ask if they had desserts and only then were we served desserts couple of people before us didnt even get the desserts. In the morning for breakfast again asked if we could get cheese omlette and was told cheese would be extra.

The Jagat Retreat is a beautful hotel situated with the aravalli hills of Rajasthan. Though it is in Udaipur, it is few kilometers away from the hustle bustle of the city and the ride towards the resort itself is a unique one. One has to drive through zigzag roads and at one point, you have to cross a small rivulet also (which is motorable of course) so reaching the place itself seems exciting.

Once you reach there, the resort welcomes you with its openness. The place is spread across large lawns and garden and you can view nice mountains around the resort. It is owned by some retired colonel of Indian Army and he too resides in his bungalow just next to resort's swimming pool. The rooms are designed as individual cottages with two rooms per cottage.

The best part about rooms are that they are very huge and one gets a feeling of living in a private bungalow! Even within the room there are sitting areas which are like beds itself and even the washroom area leads you to another room. The services part is good but it takes long time for room service, maybe due to rooms are scattered across the resort. We had couple of bad experiences too.. one was the AC which was suddenly became very noisy after some regular intervals which broke my sleep many times.. and secondly there were frequent power cuts! Once there was total blackout in the room as there was not even emergency lighting installed.

The food part was good and if you like traditonal Rajasthani food (read spicy) then you would surely love the same. I too like the food as it was nicely prepared and tasted good as I like spicy food once in a while.

If you are looking for a different getaway and would like to visit Udaipur for sightseeing, do check out this place by staying here, I am sure you'll love it as much as I did.

we stayed here with our friends. location of place is good. staff & room services is average. privacy in rooms at night is questionable because staff can look from window so take care of this when u plan to stay here. there was limited choice of food. except place package is consider to be expansive.

We had been touring Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan for 3 weeks before arriving in Udaipur. Our Indian friend from Bombay knows the owner of Jagat Retreat, Major Shaktawat, and he had suggested it would be nice to spend some time at the Retreat -away from the traffic jams, noise and pollution, and he was right!

We spent two nights at the Retreat, and it felt very nice to hear only birds singing. We had a car that took us there, and since the Retreat is in the middle of the nature, it can be difficult to find it (ask the Retreat to give directions to your driver). We were given a room number 106 and the price was 1750 INR incl. of b/fast (note that this was a special price bc the Retreat was still under works, it was the end of the season, and that we were introduced to the Owner). The room was very nice, confortable, clean and large.

The first day we spent at the pool, and had a chat with the Major who is a very distinguished man. His home is the building near the pool. In the evening we had a very good dinner with some Indian red wine. The next day we started the day at the pool, and then went to Udaipur for the afternoon when it was a bit cooler. Someone from the Retreat took us to a round-about that is about a 15 minutes drive away, and from there we took a rickshaw for another 5-10 minutes to arrive in the center of Udaipur. On the way coming back, we called the hotel, and we were picked up at the same round-about.

The Retreat offers excursions, safaris, bird watching, trekking, horse riding, etc, and there is a play ground for children at the Retreat. We did not participate in any as we just wanted to relax.

After three days at the Retreat, and batteries recharged, we went to Udaipur and took an other hotel there right in the center. I think in a country like India it is important to take a pause from time to time, and we are happy we took ours at the Retreat.

I would particularly recommend the retreat for familes traveling with children.

The website has great info and photos:
