“Like being at home, surrounded by breathtaking views of Udaipur”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

Devra (and our host Ms Jyoti) provided us with a wonderful, romantic introduction to Udaipur after a few very hectic days in Delhi. We were given a delicious home-made dinner on our first night and woke up to absolutely stunning views. We had a very large and very thoughtfully put-together room, with a love seat and a beautiful bed, our own private living room and two roof terraces to lounge in. We had two very restful nights and spent our last morning reading from the very interesting selection of books and magazines in various outdoor locations around the farmhouse. Ms Jyoti and all of the staff were very warm and homely - we were kindly offered a lift into town on our first day! A place we will remember for a long time and will recommend to family in Delhi and London.

The hotel is quite isolated and hence, peaceful. The isolation feels good. It’s a peaceful retreat. We booked the deluxe room and it was nice. The hotel is not easily accessible so be alert. The food was really good, fresh and warm and mouth wateringly good. A nice hotel for a peaceful retreat and low prices.

Our first trip to Udaipur. When we went online and chose the stay, we wondered how it would turn out. It was better than imagined, with the accomodation, hospitality and armosphere "Second to None". The hosts, Jyoti and Major Das were kindred spirits, and we enjoyed sitting down and sharing experiences in the evenings. The staff were great.
The location was fabulous ..... waking up in the mornings with Peacock calls, Partridges and Cheetal calls to be heard from the surrounding hills. Aah.... this was Bliss and Chill out time.

Room Tip: Choose the room on top with the balcony overlooking the hills at the back !!!

This is a homestay, located 15-20 minutes drive from middle of the city with amazingly breathtaking 360 degree views. You can view, the sunrise with backdrop of city palace, and enjoy sunset as well with backdrop of Fatehgarh palace. Rooms are huge, with an alcove bed in each room along with all the usual facilities (AC/coffee-tea maker/hot, cold water etc etc) you find in any good hotel.

The house is very beautifully built on a hillock. There is a Bhairav Temple within the premises that is 1000 year old, and does give the whole place an interesting aura and enregy. One of the guests, an israeli journalist mentioned the same as well.

Owners of the house, Major Das and Jyoti are amazing hosts. They make you feel at home with just the right blend of hospitality and warmth. The best thing is that you know that these guys primary concern is not money, but to make sure guests feel good. I have never had such experience in my travels so far. You can walk around the house, sit in the reading rooms, verandahs, every room is such a delight with amazing views!! They have a pet dog named Rupert who is very friendly.

Now, the backyard of the house opens into a big enough farm, that houses few domesticated cows, chickens, and a lovely dog Kaloo (keeps to himself). There are guvava orchards all around the property, and if you walk a little you can get to the stream that feeds river pichola, a crystal clear one!!

Nights are an altogether amazing experience. As the night falls, you are with pure, unadulterated nature. It is so quiet in the night that you can actually hear your cells dividing :
)
The place offers amazing views of city palace on the east and fatehgarh palace offers a view on the west (see my pics).

There are few things that few travelers might see as concerns:

For few folks, the distance to city is a concern. Well, In my opinion, staying at Devra is a choice you need make. Anyhow, the location does not restrict you in terms of mobility. If you have a vehicle of your own, city center is 15-20 mins. You can shuttle to city for sight seeing etc and return to quiet and clear air at Devra. Even if you dont have a vehicle, Major Das can arrange things for you OR you can always take phone numbers of friendly three wheeler drivers who can come to pick you at your beck and call for a nominal 100-150 rs.
Location is fairly easy to find, just mention 'Sisaarma Village, Bujra Road' and you would find your way!! You can follow the signs to 'Fateh Garh Palace' as well. Devra is 2 km before Fatehgarh palace, and for GPS, locate 'Devra Homestay Boutique'.

Food is homely and is wholesome. They have employed locals for the daily chores, and they go back to their houses after dinner so there is no 24X7 'room service' (if you are used to that sort of pampering).

There is no TV in the rooms, and I, personally, cant thank the host enough. My 5 year old daughter had so many things to do throughout the day that at the end of the day the room was full of flowers, fruits, leaves, tree branches and what not!! She just didnt bring in the animals. And surprisingly she did not for even once mention the word TV!! There is a TV in the main house, and Major Das had asked us to use it as and when we need, but thankfully we didnt have to.

SO if your idea of vacation or a hotel is masala food, vast spread of breakfast, 24X7 room service and an LED TV in your room, please do not go this place.

But if you want an experience, some time with nature and yourself, a MUST visit when you are in Udaipur!!

Room Tip: Though all the rooms have the same view as nothing restricts your view anywhere, I liked the rooms...

first of all...very unusually located somewhere in the jungle, properly in the country-side...so very hard to find..intelligent thing is to keep in connection with hotel.
2nd...No t.v. even in the deluxe rooms..u do need one in boredom...keep ur own thing for that...
now,
the rooms are classy & high standard...service is best...they even wash ur car without asking...food is great..
but of this all the greatest thing u'll find is...silence..!!
if u live in metro city & tired & desperate to get away..this is worth toiling to find in the first place.

Room Tip: Deluxe one's are better...

I had a wonderful time at Devra with Jjoyti and Major Das. Their home is very special with its 1,000 year old shrine and the marvelllous 360 degree panoramic views from the rooftop. A real labour of love, carved out of quartz over 4 years, resulting in the beautiful home where the hospitality they offer their guests is second to none. They are very generous with their time and knowledge despite leading such busy lives. It was a memorable experience staying there and I would recommend it highly.

Do check out this place if you're looking for a homestay. Though this place is a bit far from the main city and kind of hard to find if you're searching through GPS, but the ambience, the food, the room makes up for everything. The homemade food, the courteous staff, the beautiful rooms make the stay really memorable.A really awesome place for the couples :)
