It was a different experience. We were lucky as our taxi driver had arranged everything . He was very effecient and said pay after the darshan and we were lucky to have one . Leave on time as temple gate close and darshan will not be possible. shopping arround the temple for arifacts is great and got some good deals.

The is no doubt that the temple is very good but it is a kingdom of the Pandits living there. They are good cheaters and wait for tourist and devotees to cheat them. This trend start from toll tax point and they try to cheat you at any cost on the pretext that there is too much of crowd in the temple to enter and they will carry you from the back door. There is no doubt they will carry you but in return they will charge the cost at which you could settle between Rs.500 to 5000/-.

Its one of the most popular temples amongst gujaratis and marwadis. Considered to be another avatar of Lord Krishna, Shrinathji is one of the most highly visited temples in India. Anyone on a trip to Udaipur usually does visit Shrinathji temple once. The statue in itself is very beautiful and the flea market outside the temple has lots of articles for shopping.

It was indeed amazing to get a darshan (view) of the Shree Nath Ji.

But, beware of the crowds and the rush to get in for the Darshan. We discovered there are ways to pay "extra" and get to the front of the line. This is the "VIP" line. You have to negotiate how much you want to pay in order to get the VIP treatment. (I would suggest 500 rupees to 750 rupees per person for VIP entrance). Even then, its such a rush.

once you finished praying, you have to get out and walk about half a kilometer or so to the car park. During this time, you can sample/shop the local market (and eat if your stomach permits!). Also, you will have people asking you for money, donations, etc. Just ignore them.

DO NOT CARRY ANYTHING with you while you visit the temple (NO Cellphones, wallets, expensive jewelry, etc). Keep everything in your car.
It takes about 90 minutes from Udaipur in traffic times.

Ask your hotel concierge as to when the darshan times are and plan accordingly. The temple is not open through the day.

I lived ten miles from this site during the mid sixties. It is a holy place for for devotees of Krishna especially for Gujarati 's. If you look closely many of the signs, above stores, are in Gujarati rather than in Hindi. It is true there is somewhat of a stampede quality to the darshun or religious visit because of the popularity of the place. Only Hindus could visit this temple during the sixties, that has changed. Of all the temples I have visited in India I must say this one has the drama and excitement you will find no where else. On the way back to Udaipur, take in the temple of Eklinji, the bus has a rest stop, so devotees can make a visit or darshun. I visited this place many times and enjoyed shouting out Sanskrit prayers along with the other devotees. It was a convenient break on the bus trip from Rajsamand to Udaipur.
