We visited Kankarwa Haveli in Dec 2012. It is a nice property with a fantastic view the lake. Customer service is great and I enjoyed the early morning breakfast on the rooftop with a fantastic view of the city palace and Lake Pichola.

The booking process was reasonably quick. When we arrived, our room was clean and the bathroom was very clean. We had flowing hot water on demand. The porters took in our luggage with a smile on their faces. We slept well through the nights. The extra divan was very useful for our four year old son.

The Haveli was well maintained and had a heritage feel to it with narrow staircases and old fashioned wooden doors and bolts.

Laundry was done in an efficient and professional manner, the best service in that area during our entire Rajasthan trip.

There were lots of things to do nearby and a walk after dinner to the Jagadish temple was fantastic.

All in all, I did feel that the only minus point was that the rooms were a tad overpriced (@4k a day). It may be because we visited during peak tourist season. I found it odd that they wanted to charge for breakfast for my 4 year old and that too @ Rs 350/day. That seemed a little excessive.

But overall, we enjoyed Udaipur and this hotel was a good contributor to that experience.

Room Tip: Try for the highest floors with a lake view

The only good thing I can tell about the hotel is its location. It's really convenient and the view from the rooftop and from some rooms are very beautiful, here no complains.

But the room itself was a nightmare. I felt like sleeping in a refrigerator. They gave us more blankets and a heater, but they said the heater could be used only for an hour as otherwise there could be problems with an appliance receptacle. Actually without any heater there were problems with all of them except the only one in the bathroom - they all sparkle with current flow!!!

As for the bathroom it was even colder as there was an open window with a net instead of ventilation, so you feel like taking a shower outside. What's not a big deal in India, but not in December as it's about 13 C degrees at night.

They said there was free wi-fi in all rooms, but we had it only at a balcony, not in the room.

There is no dinner actually whatever they write in description, just snacks, and even for snacks it was bad. On the other hand we really enjoyed the breakfast - it was not a buffet, you need to choose in a menue, but it was very tasty. Can't understand why they can cook well for breakfast, but can't for dinners. Anyway, it's located just great, so you'd better go out for a dinner :))))

Something good at the end? Well, a german shepard living there is just adorable :)

As the view in Udaipur is so nice we decided it was worth going for one of the nicer rooms and it was worth it. View from the lake and also the roof top restaurant was great. Staff are friendly and no hassles. There are plenty of nice areas around the Haveli to relax and chill out all of which have a nice view. The breakfast was simple but more than adequate to get us started on the day. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would go straight back here if returning to Udaipur.

Room Tip: We took the "pink room" it was nice.

This is in a fabulous location, being right by the ghats so you can watch the goings-on there, and with a lovely view from the rooftop restaurant over the lake. The breakfast was basic and service slow. In the evening it was great to sit out and chill, and despite the breakfast we wished we'd stayed there for dinner. As it was we nipped next door to Jagat Niwas and regretted it - very mediocre food!
Our room was clean and OK but the A/C was like a noisy gale blowing right on to the bed so we had to ask for a fan - and got it..

Room Tip: As high up as possible with a lake view.

We stayed overnight in a lake-view room which contained twin beds as they did not have a room with a double bed with a view of the lake. This suited us fine as the view was fantastic! The thali we had was great- the rice and roti was cooked to perfection. Staff were friendly and did not expect individual tips as there was a general tip-box at reception. Generally we found that hotels/havelis with a general tip-box have better staff as the emphasis is on overall performance rather than individual actions geared toward tips. The only thing we can fault is the cleanliness of the towels provided. The towels felt clean but showed a number of old stains.

Room Tip: If you can't get a lake-view room, hop onto the roof-top terrace to see the beautiful view

There are Lake View Rooms and Partial Lake View Rooms. If the former, confirm in writing that your room will have an actual window looking out onto the lake when you reserve. The breakfast is basic, but I was warned on TA and many hotels don’t supply, so I guess a small bonus. A few steps away is a boat dock where for 200 rupees you can cruise on the water. The City Palace, a must see, is only a few streets away.

Room Tip: Make sure you are getting a room with a window view to Lake if you're paying for a Lake View roo...

The room over the water was great- with the washing on the ghat below and the reflection of the light from the lake playing on the walls of the white room. Brilliant views all day from dawn to dusk- and at night. Also very clean and freshly painted. The restaurant on the roof- especially for breakfast, was a bonus, too. And we were right next door to another haveli with a great restaurant for dinner. The location on Lal Ghat was perfect - it was easy to get everywhere, especially to the City Palace and the sunset boat ride.

They had wifi and a computer with internet available for those who weren't using wifi, which was very useful. They also have transport easily available to Jodhpur, which makes the lack of train line less difficult. The car was new and the driver was very good.

Room Tip: We had the deluxe lake front suite at 5120 rupee/night for three guests - worth every rupee!
