the only thing good about this hotel is its location, which is on the shore of pichola lake. the hotel is part of the city palace complex, so outside security is pretty tough.
in the hotel i found the welcome by the front desk very cold. a limp juin flower garland was hastily put over my neck. thankfully they did the check-in pretty quick. but they forgot to mention about the various hotel amenities, the restaurants, any pools etc.
the person who took to my room was very perfunctory in nature. just glossed over the main things. after he left i found the tv was not working, adequate toiletries not kept in the bathroom. the towels in the room were worn and tired. the chair cushions were stained and i kept my distance from them. even the writing pencils were blunt (these small things matter!). the rooms were dimly lit. the lock in the room were flimsy, no state-of-the art stuff (can't imagine why!!!). the room service food was good but very expensive. strangely the main courses were not available round the clock.
in the coffee shop the complimentary breakfast was served. it was adequate but not grand. but going to the coffee shop we have to take a golf cart and they were inadequate in number. many a times we were left stranded and the man who was supposed to be at the gate co-ordinating this played truant most of the time.
the water of the lake near the hotel shore was filthy and malodorous and someone should be cleaning them. otherwise it defeats the whole purpose of the hotel.
so overall i felt this hotel is just overhyped, overpriced and not better than many budget hotels in udaipur, except for its location.

Room Tip: get some other hotel, seriously!!

We stayed in this heritage hotel for three nights 11th July. Family member had previously stayed there and recommended hotel to me so had been looking forward to stay.
Could not have been more disappointed.

Firstly the positives were reception and lobby area was elegant and very impressive as were all public areas of hotel. The location by lake and in palace precinct was excellent too as there is so much to see here.

However, the reception staff generally had attitude of "coulld not care less" about guests. At check in very little information was given to us about hotel facilities eg. breakfast/dining area, pool etc.

We were shown to our rooms on second floor. The rooms were in poor condition and very tired looking. The chairs/cushions were all dirty with large stains on them as were the mattresses to recline on by dove windows. The rooms were dim and light switches needed good wipe over.

The bathrooms were old in desperate need of update and were the worse bathrooms I encountered in eight hotels I stayed at whilst in India.

We returned to Reception and requested some better rooms. We were then shown two different rooms on same floor but these were just as bad. We again asked for better rooms perhaps on a different floor. Reception staff came back to us offering Suite at an extra 20,000 rupees each per night.
That was not an option for us and at this point we would have walked out of hotel and found somewhere else but rooms had been fully paid for several weeks before. Unfortunately we were stuck with these rooms.

There was one young staff person who was more helpful and tried to make amends by taking us on tour of palace precinct. We appreciated his efforts.
During this tour we were shown location of pool few buildings away from our hotel and also terrace restaurant where breakfast and dinner served. This was short walk up incline outside hotel building.

Day before departure we asked about hotel car to take us to Airport. After agreeing to cost of hotel car and driver we were told car would be waiting for us following day. On day of departure we were escorted through gates to car. This was a basic Udaipur taxi that was not in great condition and without seat belts. This was a surprise as every hotel we stayed at in India (even small villas Pondicherry) provided decent hotel car for guests to travel in. Here we were at Fateh Prakesh Heritage Hotel, a palace precinct hotel owned by royal family with no hotel car for guests!

Fateh Prakash was a great disappointment. Although the most expensive we stayed at whilst in India had the worse rooms, bathrooms, facilities and staff.
Hotel was not busy as low season but no effort was made to provide us with better rooms third floor.
Very bad P.R. with "couldn't care less" attitude.

Room Tip: We had second floor rooms. Suspect third floor rooms may be of better standard and updated.

This is one of the best locations to stay in Udaipur. Located inside the City Palace complex, on the bank of famous - Lake Pichhola, Fateh Prakash Palace is one of the best heritage hotels of Rajasthan. This place is simply mesmerising with a spectacular view of the lake Pichhola. You can hear the bird chirping and feel the cool breeze the entire day. I stayed in the lake facing Dovecote Room which had a perfect view of the lake, equipped with modern amenities. Wide range of fruits in the fruit basket and cookies along with the in-house made chocolates during turndown services were a delight. Staff is also very courteous and ensures that the guests are comfortable. Hotel has all day dining restaurant - Sunset Terrace which offers the beautiful view of lake and the Arravalis. It's the monsoon time in Rajasthan and there were clouds all around which made my day. Breakfast served was tasty and with great warmth. Look forward to visit again. Highly recommended.

So first of all as you enter and there will be a person who will come to brief you and the funny thing is he will use the words " I have to brief you about how to stay in this hotel" I mean as if we have never stayed in expensive hotels. Then they would say the spa is available all day but in reality you will never get an appointment. Even after you tell the briefing guy that you intend to go for a spa treatment. The hotel does not have its own pool and u have to go to another hotel in the premise to use the pool. The pool closes at 6 so it's useless to have this beautiful pool. The hotel has a do not disturb sign in each room to be hung outside the door but the hotel staff does not understand it, what a shame. The rooms are spacious and bathrooms are beautiful but I think it's a little overpriced. The hotel staff was still trying to make our stay better but u know after the many issues where we were like 'oh man' it didn't help much. On the whole I would say if there are other options available try them.

View excellent. Food quality not upto the mark. Lot of improvement needed to serve Indian people. Services very poor, rude behavior towards Indian customers. Hospitality here scores zero to our utter surprise.
