“Good clean and friendly”

A fab hotel situated on Lake Pichola lots of charm and stunning views. Good clean hotel must have a room with lake views. The rooms have large window seats that you can lie on and watch life on the lake. We had a large bathroom very clean and tidy. Excellent views from the roof restaurant good food too. We had the added attraction of fireworks as the city celebrated Diwali. Ideal location for exploring on foot just walk out of the door and find what Udaipur has to offer. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Diwali with patterned flower petals and lots of tea lights giving the hotel added charm.

Room Tip: Rooms with lake view are perfect.

We arrived in Udaipur after a long day driving and visiting the Kumbhalgarh Fort and Ranakpur Temples (both must-sees).

After a short but tortuous tuk-tuk ride down narrow streets from where we had to leave our car and driver, we were led down a passageway to the entrance of the Jagat Niwas Palace, where a lovely bright courtyard greeted us as we checked in. We climbed up narrow stairs to the 2nd (European) floor and went into our room. We were immediately knocked out by the location and view. A beautiful cushioned jharokha (bay window seat) looks out over Lake Pichola, the Lake Palace and other lovely houses on the opposite shore of the bay. The other palace island, Jag Mandir, is in the distance. We had the top floor Pichola Suite – Room 116 - not the most luxurious or well-appointed hotel room I’ve ever stayed in, but spacious, beautifully but simply decorated and furnished with antiques with probably the best view I’ve ever had from a hotel room!

Don’t worry if you can’t get or don’t want to pay for a Pichola Suite. The hotel restaurant which serves excellent, well-priced food has a number of jharokhas with the same view where you can stretch out on cushions with a drink. In the evening the roof terrace is open for dinner when you not only get the view of the Lake Palace at night on one side, but also the added bonus of the illuminated City Palace towering above on the other.

It takes less than five minutes to walk to Udaipur’s main attraction, the City Palace.

We found Udaipur to be a magical place and the Jagat Niwas Palace was at the heart of that magic.

Room Tip: We had the top floor Pichola Suite – Room 116 - probably the best view I’ve ever had from a hotel ro...

This is a gem of a place - great old Heritage hotel, sitting on the lake edge with a roof top restaurant that serves good, well-priced food. Pay a little extra and go for the lake-front rooms, which we thought were brilliant. All of them have seated alcoves opening out on to the lake, and the views are sensational. But not so sure about the side rooms, which may lack a little light. Typical sense of adventure is needed (our air con exploded in the night, but we were moved without fuss in the morning when, really, the room fans were quite sufficient to keep us cool; the hot water was reasonably strong, but the shower floor was treacherously dangerous because of the slippery tiles). The hotel is reached through a network of narrow lanes, full of donkeys, cows, pestering hawkers and
barping motorbikes. But at the end is a real sanctuary and a wonderful
setting. Only one complaint: no fridge in the room to cool some beers and water. But the beer price at the restaurant (roof top or enclosed one floor below - which we preferred to escape the mosquitos) was pretty reasonable at 300 ringgit for a 660ml bottle, ice cold. Stay there and you'll always remember the experience.

We loved this hotel and our stay except for the location of our room. We thought we had booked a lake view room, but in fact were placed directly below the kitchen. My wife & I are light sleepers, so we did not get any rest until after 11 pm when the kitchen cease operations. When we requested another room, the staff said that there were none open.
Despite that flaw, the hotel was very nice with it's appearance, decoration and location. It was right on the lake and just below the city palace which offered picture-postcard views. The staff was very friendly and helpful during our stay. The restaurant offered fantastic local cuisine & pastas (for those not willing to try the spicy stuff). We would definitely stay there again as long as we stayed in a different room away from kitchen.

Room Tip: Request a room that is not underneath the kitchen. The noise did not cease until 11 pm after restaur...

My review is from perspective of having stayed in multiple hotels over a 21 day timeline traveling around India as a woman traveling solo. The Jagat Niwas hotel is the only one that I stayed I would rate terrible. It was the one hotel wherein the staff did not provide any type of tour and did not give any orientation to the amenities at the hotel. There was no formal welcome. No one referred to me by my name or even called me madam. They gave me the worst room even though my travel company arranged a premium space, the toilet didn't work in the room, they pushed two beds together to make one bed. There was no real privacy. The window of the room looked out onto the courtyard and the two curtains did not meet so anyone could look into the room. In order to operate the shower you have to press a button and wait 15 minutes before showering. Noise levels were very high--you could hear all the noise from the courtyard in the room (and cite conversations verbatim), and you could hear the restaurant patrons forks touching their plates when they ate in the restaurant upstairs from your hotel room. The restaurant staff was not attentive and keep me waiting 5 minutes after they had completed all their joking around before they decided to my order as well as the other patrons that were waiting. The staff kept asking if I was a guest at the hotel even while I has holding the massive metal keying to the hotel room door. Cars are unable to access the hotel via the narrow road so you have to transfer to a 3 wheeled vehicle to access the hotel. When my travel representative showed up onsite to address the situation only then did the hotel staff acknowledge I was guest, but then it was too late. I ended up not staying overnight and checking into another hotel.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights, September 24-26, 2013 in the Pichola Suite. The room was clean and spacious and had a wonderful bay window seat overlooking the river. We ate several meals in the restaurant and were never disappointed. The view from the restaurant has to be one of the best in Udaipur as well! A great hotel that we would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Pichola Suite on the third (top) floor was wonderful!

We spent three nights here recently during Diwali. We loved to peace and tranquillity of the terrace overlooking the lake, the quiet of our room, the very good quality of the food, and the welcoming smiles and helpfulness of all of the staff. Of course, the Sunday night was hugely noisy, with fireworks and bangers exploding everywhere, but this was a very good place indeed to watching that magical spectacle. And it is within easy walking distance of the main attractions, and 20 mins walk away from Bapu Bazar shopping street where Indians and not tourists shop. Not a luxury Hotel, but good quality, good service and great views and location

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor rooms
