This is an amazing havella situated right on the lake.. We enjoyed every minute of our stay here and the food is out of this world. Highly recommended. We walked every night around the old city as it is in the heart of everything. We will return.

We reached this hotel in a tuk-tuk, with our luggage following in a second tuk-tuk, and were grateful that the friendly staff carried our bags up the 51 steps to our room. We had a room at the very top, on its own, with a fantastic, uninterrupted view of the lake and easy access to the restaurant and breakfast tables. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and a clean, large, bathroom and a table and chairs outside. The air conditioning worked really well!

The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. They liked that we were supporting India against Australia in the cricket!

It was a bit odd when pop/rock music started blaring out from another hotel across the water on our first evening and we had to retreat to our room to get away from the noise, but that's not the fault of Jagat Niwas.

I don't think this hotel would be particularly suitable for people with mobility problems unless they can guarantee to get one of the ground floor rooms, and whilst some people might enjoy running the gauntlet of the various shop owners on the only way into the hotel, we did get a bit fed up with this. Having said this, we enjoyed our stay a great deal.

This Haveli is on a dead end, which secures the first important aspect: it is really quite!
The view from the rooftop terrace / restaurant on the lake is simply amazing.

The rooms are large and pleasant, there is enough room to sit outside and relax, and the rooftop restaurant is airy and pleasant, with excellent food. It was actually interesting that almost all rooftop restaurants were empty, and this one required every evening a reservation.

All in all a very pleasant experience, and an excellent base to explore the city.
Therefore 5 stars, because it was an excellent address

The hotel is a 17th century restored haveli, overlooking Lake Pichola.
We had a lovely ground floor room off the inner courtyard looking over the lake.
The room was simple but comfortable with a walk in dressing room, as well as bathroom.
The roof top restaurant served fantastic food cooked as hot or mild as you wanted and with wonderful views over the lake.
Though there was no pool, we went to a hotel within the City Palace where you could swim in a lovely pool with towel and sun beds for £3.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking lake are lovely.

We stayed in three different rooms and they were all really nice and clean. While it is a very thoroughly decorated hotel, it lacks a personal touch.
The staff are very attentive and the location is perfect right next to the city palace.
It is OK value for money but do not chose the english breakfast - it is overpriced and not very tasty. In all other aspects the restaurant is great. It is a good ideas to book a table at the rooftop in advance as it is a popular place.

A beautiful hotel right on the lake, in the heart of the old town, down by the ghats, surrounded by some very good shops in between the tourist tat, cows and tuk-tuks.   Charming and friendly, with wonderful views, and the Jagdish Temple and the City Palace on your doorstep.  The lovely courtyards with stairways up and down would make the perfect setting for an opera.  Our lake-facing suite with a large comfy window seat (jharokha) was delightful.  The roof-top restaurant has one of the best views in town, which makes up for the rather limited menu . The set breakfast is a little disappointing too (though a la carte offers more choice), but in the end you forgive the chef his lack of imagination as it is just so good to be there.  The restaurant area below the roof has more window seats with low tables which look appealing - if you are happy to sit cross-legged.   With a little more effort, the place could be amazing, but it is a delightful and peaceful haven in the madness that is the old town of Udaipur.

Some of the rooms appeared to be windowless - or to look onto public areas - which would not be desirable, so be sure you know what you are getting.

Room Tip: If your budget runs to a lake-facing room you won't regret it. If not, make sure you have one w...
