“Charming old hotel with amazing lake views”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

This hotel is tucked away in a quiet location between the old city and the City Palace in Udaipur, right on the lake. We had a small lake-facing room, with the window literally right over the lake. The terrace restaurant on the top floor has spectacular views over the lake and the Lake Palace Hotel which is on an island in the lake. You can also eat dinner on the rooftop itself with even more amazing views, but you need to reserve a table in advance.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a lake-facing room.

The hotel was awesome. I was in Udaipur in december last year travelling with family.
The rooms were nice and big. It was a new experience for me to stay in a haveli. One of the good hotels in a budget . I would stay here again if i go to Udaipur in future.

Picture-perfect would be the only way to describe the view seen from the Jagat Niwas palace Hotel Restaurant!

Honestly when our auto stopped in front of Jagat Niwas, I was unsure as to what was in store. The entrance can be totally misleading, seems like a tiny arch and a passageway. But the moment you step into the lobby, you travel back in time and find yourself in an old-fashioned Haveli complete with the Courtyard and the smiling guards!

We opted for a three bedded room, a standard room which was not part of the main Haveli, but there was a side staircase leading up to it. This was a non-lake facing room- which had absolutely no view- you could just see walls of another building.

The room could be best described as "princess-y". The bedding, colours chosen for the curtains and the old fashioned tiled beds! The sheets were snowy white the comforters soft, and for wonders, the pillows were not lumpy- perfect for
The tiny details for a comfortable stay were all taken care of. The toiletries were all in place- the shampoos, conditioner and moisturizer. There were three towels- No necessity of calling the housekeeping a zillion times for asking for extra stuff for the third person.

The pros:
>>The rooms are extremely comfortable and very well equipped.
>>The Haveli is beautiful and very tastefully decorated
>>The location is excellent- right on lake pichola

The Cons:
>>There aren't any elevators and the steps are old-fashioned and hence-high! If you cannot climb, you most likely wont be able to get restaurant or your room.
>>There aren't any recreational activities within the hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a lake facing room, the view is simply gorgeous. Also, if you cannot climb high steps, tr...

Although our India trip is planned by a travel agency and our itinerary is all written, i never really make an effort to make a research of my own. So when we get to Udaipur and to this hotel, i was just so happy and overwhelmed with what i saw. After check in and on our way to our room i just have a smile on my face because the hotel itself is already picture worthy. Our room is of average size but full of character from decorations and design of the room. The daybed, overlooking a picturistic lake is just breathtaking! The rooftop area is best for sunset viewing and dining as well. Great food and i thought the service is fine. Very close to local shops and the palace. Our Christmas experience here is truly unforgettable :-)

Room Tip: Lakeview is simply the best

very good location.central courtyard with tulsi plant and rooms all around it. beautifully restored heritage haveli. large, clean and comfortable rooms, lake view restaurant (expensive though), near to many attractions like city palace, bagore ki haveli and the distance can be covered by walking. USP- situated on the lake. the lalghat area is a touristy area with lots of shopping and dining experience but little expensive.

We stayed three nights in this hotel in a separate room right at the top of the hotel which, although the views were wonderful, was not of the standard that we had been used to in the previous three weeks of our trip around India - a trickle of water for a shower and a not very comfortable bed. However, most disappointing of all was the attitude of the staff, particularly in the restaurant. The manager was brusque to the point of rudeness and we felt as though our modest requests were a nuisance for the staff. It was no better at reception where there was no welcome greeting - just terseness. The food was average and we chose to eat outside of the hotel for most of the time. A shame as this hotel is in a wonderful position - perhaps the management has become complacent. We would not stay again and we would not recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose a room with the view of the lake but not the one at the very top of the hotel.

I had gone there in Decmber 2009 for a dinner. As soon as i entered the property I had promised myself that I will come back to Udaipur just to stay in the Jagat Niwas Palace. This is an old haveli that has been wonderfully renovated and restored with all its charm and beauty.I finally had my chance of staying there in August 2012. The best thing about the Haveli is its stunning view if the lake and the Lake palace. The rooms are spacious and elegantly furnished with period furniture. There was a bay window where one can sleep, sit, relax and read or simply gaze out to the lake for hours.
The rooms are very clean and the hotel staff is very cordial though not super friendly.
The rooftop restaurant is splendid and the food is awesome though a little overpriced.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the lake are definitely worth staying in.
