A long pending review but its taken me sometime to find a way to describe the experience I had at this hotel. I chose to stay at this hotel when I planned to propose to my Fiancé.
Service - The best I've seen. I was in touch with the team some weeks before I arrived to plan the perfect proposal. The staff involved were especially attentive to my needs. From the time of the arrival till we left we were treated as though we were royalty. The warmth and service provided felt so natural and came with so much ease. The best part is that everyone seemed to love their jobs.
Room - We had the room with the semi private pool. Note, that the pools are not heated so it would be difficult to have a swim in winter. The view from this room is picturesque, there's a view of the lake and beyond that the City Palace. There is of course a pillow menu to pick a pillow of your choice.
Food - Amazing food, and because the hotel caters to a small number of people the menu isn't as varied as with the bigger hotels. Not that its a bad thing as the chefs too come out personally to meet with diners to take any special requests which gave it a nice touch. Although the menu was slightly limited our waiter tried his best to accommodate my needs.
Location - The major tourist sites are 15-20 minutes away for car or rickshaw. To get a rickshaw you will need to walk out of the hotel gates, there is a buggy service to the main gate.
The first property I am reviewing where I found it difficult to find negatives. Though there is no such thing as perfect , one gripe i had was the fact that guests are required to pay for WIFI service, especially when room rates are so much higher.
Now to share my personal experience. I wanted to propose to my Fiancé and had the team at the Udaivilas ensure that everything was perfect. It was indeed. Roshni and Rashmi were the 2 key people who helped me pull off a perfect proposal. Chef Rupak ensured that the meal at dinner was delicious. We had a personal waiter at our private dinner on the pontoon which was an unforgettable experience. We had so many people from the Oberoi come congratulate us, made it an exceptionally special occasion. We didn't want to leave and as fate may have it, our flight was cancelled. Vincent graciously got us a room for the additional night, we cannot thank him enough.
Overall it is definitely a place that will be close to our hearts and we'll be sure to celebrate many of our future anniversaries at the Oberoi Udaivilas :)
