You arrive by boat which is delightful. The setting of the hotel is a real WOW. The welcome is nice and in room check-in painless.
The public spaces of the hotel are entrancing, one area is lit only by candlelight at night. There are pools and fountains galore and acres of garden to wander in and to explore.
The room was very nice with a good bathroom. Minor points:
1. There is a window onto the internal corridor, yes it has a blind but it is not enirely opaque with lights, we kept the curtains closed, easy solution but be aware.
2. If you don't close the wooden gates to the pool or lower the blind people swimming by can see into the bathroom.
3. The pools in front of the rooms/suites are shared. You have your own access but once in the water it is a long pool which stretches the length of 10 rooms. This is not a problem but if you go out onto your sitting area naked people in the pool and at other places in the hotel grounds can see you. Keep your swimsuit/trunks on.
The pool outside the rooms is however great, you can get a really good long swim and then be straight back to your own loungers or your room.
There are two other pools, one which we used by the spa which is very nice. Pool service is good, water, cold towels, complimentary suncream and frozen grapes almost hourly! You can also get a snack/light meal here.
Pools are heated in winter we were told but were not heated when we were there. This was not a problem it was not that cold.
The hotel has an indoor and outdoor restaurant and there is a Rajasthani dancer who comes in every night to perform at obout 8pm. It is a shame that there is only one menu covering the two restaurants and although the food is really very good the Oberois in New Delhi, Shimla (both), Mumbai and Jaipur have even better food.
Service is good but just a tad too much. Staff should not make guests feel bad if they eat out. But I suspected there were some trainee staff about who were desperate to please and to get good reviews. The best service appears effortless.

Room Tip: Rooms 102-120 face the lake and have the shared pools in front of them so you can swim along and view the lake. The other rooms with a pool along the front face the side and I am not sure that they can see the lake at all.

An absolute perfect hotel in all ways; service is impeccable, grounds and facilities are breathtaking, food delicious. We had amazing massages at the spa, dining in open air, huge breakfasts, and the kindest employees who only wanted to please. I can't imagine finding a better hotel anywhere.

Room Tip: We loved our room overlooking the lake with the huge pool in front of the row of guest rooms with private patios.

Thought I had died and gone to heaven when my sister and I arrived at this hotel. We were greeted by the manager on arrival, and the staff were second to none. Our room was exquisite , and the grounds of this hotel were magnificent, the peace and quiet was something else. there is not a negative thing I can say about it. I would love to return someday, a truely beautiful place.

The best of the best; amenities, service, location all 5 star. We stayed at the Oberoi Udaivilas the final three nights of our ten day trip across Rajasthan. As with the previous Oberoi's in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur and Taj Hotel in Jodhpur, accommodations were first class, restaurants excellent, and service impeccable. We really got to unwind in Udaipur and enjoy the hotel for the luxurious experience it was. Food and service were excellent. Great yoga classes and a fabulous Spa. We upgraded to the Executive Suite our final night and was it ever worth the few extra dollars; accommodations fit for Royalty with our own private pool and complete privacy. We highly recommend the Oberoi Udaivilas for anyone seeking a truly special experience.

Room Tip: there are two upgrades available; one set of rooms has a wonderful view of the lake and the Palace and comes with multi-unit pool right outside your patio; the executive suite is very exclusive and has its own private pool with ample room to entertain four couples.

There is no better than the Udaivilas in Udaiphur. The hotel itself is something to explore, the grounds are magnificent, the view even better. I will have to return as I hardly saw Udaiphur as the hotel was just too amazing to leave!
The staff were beautiful and the food, amazing!
If I could rate this 6 dots I would!

Room Tip: All rooms are great however tehre are private pool access rooms, that look devine
