I have been in many luxury resorts all over the world. This is probably the most balanced one. More than about luxury I would talk about class. We were given the only room which is beside the pool. It was charming. Service was great and polite without being overwhelming. The boat trip to and from the hotel was "just in time". The food, even expensive, was very good. The views from the pool overlooking the city palace, are stunning. A doubt for rich people. For middle-class people like us, a great economic effort which is absolutely worthy.

We spent two nights at the unique Taj Lake Palace hotel, room 103, as part of our 14 day holiday in North India. I thoroughly enjoyed the short boat ride to the hotel and the welcome of rose petals falling from the roof was divine.

The hotel was beautiful and we were upgraded to a room with a view of the lake which was very romantic. The room was elegantly furnished and was extremely comfortable. As with all Taj hotels I have stayed in, the level of service is attentive, but not intrusive and the staff make a genuine effort to exceed your expectations.

The location of the hotel is fab as you can take a stroll and do a spot of shopping, take a longer boat ride or get out and about to meet some of the local people who are extremely gracious and proud of Udaipur.

The Spa was splendid and I had a series of treatments by an excellent therapist. He was superb!

My only slight disappointment was with the food. It was OK, however, I did not think that it justified the price tag. Maybe, my expectations were very high since we had just returned from 2 nights at Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace where the food was very good. The Roof Top restaurant had awesome views at night and is a great romantic place to dine. I also enjoyed the bar where you can also sit outside to enjoy the magical view. This was my favourite evening spot with a glass or two of my favourite cocktail and au hoveres. Priceless!

Its a legendary hotel with a reputation that stretches far. And it is all true!

Go there to live like Royalty! Its a beautiful property with an outstanding location and out of the world service.

Took my wife to the Lake Palace for our first wedding anniversary. We stayed for two nights and I booked a 2 nights package directly through Taj website. It was lake view room package including breakfast, a guided tour of the palace, airport pickup and drop and a dinner.

Pick up and check in:
The special treatment started at the airport itself with a vintage car pick up. Needless to say the wifey was impressed :-) We were warmly greeted at the hotel's exclusive jetty and swiftly transferred to the hotel via one of their boats which keep plying to and fro all the time. The check in was fuss free and the staff very nice. We were given a brief introduction to the palace while the check in formalities were done.
Room and food:
We stayed at the Jagmandir Darshan suite which LARGE with beautiful lake views. The room had a four poster bed and a separate sit our area with huge windows all around overlooking the lake.

We had a lavish 4 course dinner at the Indian specialty restaurant. The food was ordered by one of the able staff members and was fabulous. The famous Laal Maas is a must try. Breakfast on both days at the coffee shop was sumptuous.

Special Touch:
Our room was specially bedecked on the anniversary night in all red silk bed linen and rose petals were strewn around the room. There was a box of massage oils, fragrance oils, candles and chocolates. There was also a illustrated Kamasutra!

Things to do:
The city palace complex and the tourist shopping areas are just a boat ride away and make for good day trips, though April (and the rest of the summer months) are not ideal time to visit.

Every nook of the Palace is beautiful and one can spend hours taking pictures. Its so well maintained and the staff is so outstanding that just being in the environs makes you feel like Royalty.

I am certainly saving for a return trip.

The best example of art of excellence...
Amazing landscape and what an heritage experience was.
The best part was the entrance through royal boat, and the warm welcome.
Service provided was excellent and another attraction is cultural dance shows after dinner.
The safest hotel from safety point of view.
Even the cars are parked 1 km away from the hotel and the only way to enter is boat.
The rooms are wooden embedded with royal maharajahs style furniture.

The Taj Lake Palace hotel is a fantastic hotel with a great history. The hotel is located in the centre of a lake and you have to travel by the hotel boat to get to it. It was different but stunning.

After and informative guided tour of the various rooms and hotel attractions we were shown to our suite. Although the interior is dated, as expected for a Palace, it was comfortable and clean. The bathrooms were nice and well stocked with fresh towels, soaps, shampoo's etc.

The Pool was quite small although had an amazing view of the lake and the surrounding city which really made sitting in the chilled Jacuzzi even more relaxing. However it did get cold at night and it would have been perfect to have a warm jacuzzi.

The food was delicious and the two hotel restaurants were nicely decorated.

I wouldn't really recommend this hotel to small children as it lacks vibrancy. Our kids seemed to get bored and of course were not at the age to appreciate the surroundings.
The hotel focusses on the tranquility of the scenery and hence sets the scene for a more romantic holiday.

I would definitely revisit this hotel, just not with the whole family.

My fiancee and I are well seasoned travellers and this place is one of the finest hotels we have stayed in anywhere in the world. It is India at its opulent best. We were showered with rose petals as we stepped off the boat onto the floating palace. The staff were exceptional and we actually received an upgrade to a suite which was out of this world. If you want to experience what it was like to be Indian royalty, you should splurge out and spend a night or two here. You will not regret it.

The Taj Lake Palace is undoubtedly one of the best hotels in India. It was on the insistence of a friend who had been there once. The money spent looked worth the moment we stepped in.
