“The Ultimate in Romantic Seclusion”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

This is a simply beautiful wedding-cake like palace sitting alone in the lake. With only hotel guests allowed in the 300 year-old palace, and access only via boat, it is exclusive without being pretentious. We were lucky enough to have our own private terrace looking towards the west. The perfect spot to watch the sunset. On our last night the staff set up a dinner table on the terrace at the end of a path of rose and chrysanthemum petals. Wow!

I splashed out for one night here on a month long trip round India. From the moment I turned up at the jetty to board the boat to take me to the hotel, I was treated like absolute royalty. I was upgraded to a lake view room (view of the City Palace no less) from a garden view room. There's marble and beautiful furniture and ornaments everywhere. It smells of lovely incense wafting around, and best of all is that it is a tranquil spot free of rickshaw drivers/shops/honking horns/beggars. The nightly Rajasthan music and dance show was great. The private jacuzzi was lovely. Service everywhere was just perfect. I was addressed by name. My only criticism is the expensive internet access after your free daily half hour. Why do posh hotels do this? Apart from that, this was the perfect hotel stay and I didn't want to leave.

Room Tip: My lake view one was pretty special.

This is a world class property by any standard. It is difficult to beat the location on its own island in the middle of a lovely lake with many other palaces and impressive properties on the surrounding shores.

The Taj Palace is the former summer palace of a maharajah. The room my daughter and I sayed in was absolutely beautiful with a fabulous sunset side view of the lake. We were very pleased with the antiques and sitting area overlooking the water.

Breakfast a very nice buffet speak in a comforatble room overlooking the water. We had dinner twice in the Indian Restaurant. Particularly like the lamb broth which I gather is a specialty.

The pool area is very nice and relaxing with attentive pool side bar and food service. Again the ever hanging water views can be enjoyed as you relax around the pool.

The jetty back and forth from the mainland is always available and the service at both island side and mainland side docks exceptional. In fact the service from all staff at the hotel was warm and helpful.

This is a uniquely lovely property and experience and a great way to finish up our trip toIndia before we flew back to India.

During a stay in Udaipur spend 1 night in the Taj Lake Palace hotel (and another night in the Oberoi Udaivilas hotel).

The Taj Lake Palace hotel is -obviously- a fantastic hotel !
The location of the hotel and its accessability only by boat make it a special experience.

Also the view on the city from the hotel roof at night is fantastic.

The hotel reception area is nice and reception personnel was good.
The hotel grounds (inside the palace) are well kept and are very nice.

Our room had a view to the city palace and that was obviously great. The room was of a decent size and though everything did functionally work perfectly well, the 'age' does show on a number of items - e.g. in the bathroom. But that is obviously part of the experience.

The indian restaurant at the hotel where we had dinner was fantastic (guess one of the best indian restaurants we ever ate).

All in all a fantastic experience.

Now, having stayed in both the Taj Lake Palace and the Oberoi Udaivilas I believe in a comparison it's a match.
Yes, the Lake Palace hotel has more history to it and its indian restaurant is top notch. But the Udaivilas also does have a lot of plusses : the building is much more recent and decoration of the whole hotel -all over the place- is very stylish albeit not having the Lake Palace 'historical' aspect.

When going to Udaipur my suggestion is to spend 1 night at the Taj Lake Palace hotel and 1 night at the Oberoi Udaivilas hotel. That's what we will do wehn returning to Udaipur !

Rated as one if the top 5 romantic destinations if the world, its a flagship property for taj group of hotels And a personal property of HH Maharaja Arvind Singh g of Mevar.situated in middle if Fatehsahar lake it looks like a floating ship.the view is mesmerising and breathtaking.
Food, hospitality and grandeur makes up for a royal treatment in typical Rajasthani style.
A must see for all couples who wish to experience a Royal Rajasthani hospitality at best.
Have seen pple crying when they are leaving this place,
