I was impressed by the quality of the house keeping staff but you need to make a special mention if you want less spices in your vegetarian food. The location is excellent . One gets a lake view from the roof . For people who cannot afford five star hotel rates in Udaipur , this is a very good option.

When we chose the hotel, we were a little bit worried, considering the not too god evaluations written by other travelers. But we opted for it as a compromise between quality and price.
In the reality, the hotel is very very pleasant. The facilities are an old noble palace that has been completely restored a couple of years ago, all ancient frescos and stuccos and silvers are back to the old beauty and glory.
The only uncompleted part is the yard and garden still very dusty, but, good for them, the hotel overlooks the park of Trident Hotel, so that you see anyway lots of green.

The room is very spacious, a wide marble bathroom with Jacuzzi, the roof terrace has a 180 degrees view on the three Udaipur lakes and, of course to the Lake palace.
The breakfast, served in the terrace is rich, offers a variety of western and indian specialities and the ambient is so pleasant that represents the best daily start.

We stayed here one night right after New Years. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was great. Everything was marble. We had a rainhead shower and additionally a bath faucet that was literally like a little mini waterfall. Great water pressure. The rooftop bar as well as restaurant were great. And the view from both of these places were great. It was a little too cold to eat outside, which you could tell they had the set up to do during warmer weather, with little gazebos along the roof set up to have private tables. Also, the pool inside looked clean and well kept, although we did not use this either.

Seeing some of the other reviews, I have to say, I did not see the lake from my room either, but this did not really bother me.

There were a couple downsides to our visit. The first is that we had problems checking in. We had pre-arranged to have three in our room for a small extra fee, and instead they tried to talk us into getting a second room once we got there. They kept on saying it wasn't possible to have a 3rd person in the room until I showed them the email where we had a pre-arranged agreement for it, and then magically, it suddenly became ok, and the guy at the front blew this all off by saying that I had quoted him the wrong fee and that's why he said it was not possible. Other than this one man, everyone at the place was incredibly helpful and nice. Another thing is that the phone in our room kept on ringing (every 10 to 15 minutes with no one being on the other end). We were able to take care of this by just unplugging our phone.

These things seemed minor however, to all the other good things about this place. If you consider what the other neighboring hotels cost (the oberoi villas, etc...) this is definitely a well valued place to stay.

This hotel has a 5 star rating but I honestly cannot understand why anyone would give it a 3 star rating let alone a 5 star rating! We spent 3 nights here over Christmas. The rooms were all rather faded. Views of the lake were promised from our rooms but it was in reality a view of the Oberoi's car park. The spa bath didn't work. There were so many light switches that it took half an hour to find them & I received an electric shock from the bedside light. The noise was terrible from the Oberoi carpark below. Rats were present at night around the indoor pool. Pool towels were given as bath towels each day as they never seemed to have enough bath towels & then if they did have enough bath towels, they were threadbare.
One positive was the service in the restaurant which was very good. The outdoor pool area was also very nicely presented with good views.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

This massive marble hotel is quirky but comfortable, I satyed for a wedding and was impressed with the servie and the view of the lake. Some of the rooms are poorly designed but all are made of impressive marble and have ample space.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the 3rd floor for easy pool access
