This heritage hotel is the perfect place to take time out and enjoy authentic Indian village life. The staff and management can't do enough to look after their guests in a discreet but friendly way and they embrace those who are genuinely interested to learn more about their village life. The rural location is easily accessible from Udaipur with great roads leading there ... I can't imagine why this place has stayed so unspoilt and devoid of tourists. Long may it last! The hotel is currently being upgraded but they're retaining all the charm and low key approach that make this place so special. Add to that the most wonderful happy community in Khempur (no hassle from people here at all), the chance to ride top class horses or just enjoy time with them, a short drive to a stunning lake, fantastic food and overall peace and quiet. Go now before too many people hear about it and make sure you stay at least a few days during the middle or end of your trip. I loved it and will go back when I can.

It's one of the places one never forgets - it's simply unique.. The atmosphere of the place is magic. I enjoyed so much staying there and will go back there for sure. People working there are very friendly - they make you feel you are at home. We had delicious meals and the walk around the palace and in the village was unforgettable. BTW There is a wifi. Everything was just perfect.

Ravla Khempur was one of the highlights during our intensive India trip. It was a pity that because of our tight schedule we could stay there only one night - we would have extended our stay there with a great pleasure!
We came there late in the evening and we were welcomed with a beautiful horse dance show followed by an exquisite and delicious dinner at the terrace.
The whole palace is charming and magic! Nitin was very helpful showing us around it and explaining everything. He showed us as well a trailer of a movie recently recorded in the palace: "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel".
The following morning we spent some time with beautiful champion horses and had a unique experience of walking around the authentic village nearby.
After a delicious breakfast we had to leave this magic unique place, but for sure we'll come back there one day!

Our staying in Ravla Khempur is been awesome!!! We had to spend one only night there. once seen the place we decided to spend one night more!!! This wonderfull heritage hotel is placed in a quiet village not too far from Udaipur. There you can find the best Rajastani hospitality and enjoing your time riding horses, having a walk in khempur village, where, by the way, people is soooo ... glad to see you around; or just relaxing into the beautiful garden they have. The manager, Mr Nitin Kumar, is a nice and kind person, always ready to satisfy his guests's needs, as all the staff does, actually. A particular thank goes to MoanJi, a very good guy from the staff. We'll always remember about people i met in and out Ravla Khempur.

It had been one of my most memorable trip. One hour trip from udaipur and their it was.The place is in the middle of nowhere and for a group of friends it was just perfect. A different kind of vacation compared to the routined stay at a lavish place in the middle of a crowded city. The sign at the entrance 'Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' truly described the essence of the place. Spacious room and outstanding chef and a bonfire at night on the terrace really made this a true exotic vacation. In the morning did horse riding on true breed horses which had a history with the owner of the hotel. A true 'MANOHAR' experience as they say in rajasthani.

We stopped here for a night on the way to Udaipur. Actually wish I''d skip Udiapur and just stayed here. The building is amazing. When I first saw the sign at the entrance, 'Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' I was so curious. And then the manager showed us the movie trailer - fantastic!
The management is newish. They really try hard. They make the best of the building terraces and the views. They make the dining aspect of your stay very special both at night with candle-lit meals and breakfast. This is not a chain hotel and is a work in progress. The rooms are very good but knowing that the building is several hundreds of years old I know it is only a matter of time before it is absolutely perfect. We visited in December and no problems getting extra duvets for a snuggly warm night's sleep.
We were able to see the owner's prized Mewari horses and walk the countryside.

Room Tip: Just ask!! Tour the stables and fall in love with the horses.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Now reopened with Resaalaa Restaurant. Ravla Khempur used as The BestExotic Marigold Hotel,a british movie. The title ‘Ravla’ in Rajasthan refers to the home of a village chieftain”. In earlier days, the Ravla was the focal point of the entire village. Functions such as village welfare, collection of taxes, administration of law and order, and the initiation of festivals took place in the Ravla. Ravla Khempur exudes historical ambience and is graced with breathtaking surroundings. The lofty terraces, open courtyards, sprawling gardens, domes, arches and canopied balconies transport one back in time. Khempur village developed over the centuries to one side of the Ravla. It comprises a small, random and attractive cluster of typical rural dwellings and shops, and shaded squares where the villagers discuss the affairs of the world or share the local gossip. For the visitor, this is a side of India that has its own fascination; the cheerful welcome and natural hospitality of the village folk who ask nothing more than to enjoy a chat over a cup of tea. ... more   less
