Owner description: Fateh Sagar Lake is the second artificial lake of Udaipur, the first being Jaisamand lake. Located in the north of Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake lies just besides the entrance to Moti Magri Hill. Built in 1678 by Maharana Jai Singh, Fateh Sagar Lake got its name from Maharana Fateh Singh, who later made additions to it. Talking about the statistics of Fateh Sagar, the lake extends to the length of 2.4 km, 1.6 km. in width and deep to the extent of 11.5 meter. Fateh Sagar Lake is well-planned with three intake channels and an overflow channel that is usually brought into play in the rainy season. Fateh Sagar Lake is embellished by three small islands, which can be reached by taking a boat ride in the lake. The largest island of the lake is developed into a park by the name of Nehru Park. The garden comprises a boat-shaped restaurant and a small zoo for children. This island park is the favorite picnic spot of Udaipur dwellers. The second island is converted into a public park with brilliant water-jet fountains by the Government of Rajasthan. The third island addresses Udaipur Solar Observatory, which is the best solar observing site in Asia. Fateh Sagar Lake is quiet place where people usually come for relaxation and to lighten up amidst the serene waters of the lake. From the bottom of Moti Magri Hill, you can hire pedal boats or motor boats as per your convenience to enjoy a boat ride in the lake.

Beautiful lake in mid of the aravali hills in Udaipur, This is the largest fresh water lake in the city, water changes it color based on the day light that make it more magnificent. Lake surrounded by mountains make if a perfect landscape and photogenic view.

One can sit near to the lake and feel the cold breeze of air and enjoy the moment.

Very beautiful lake and the best way to enjoy it is having a lunch at Raaj Bagh. And many of the majot attractions surround this lake.

On the north side of Udaipur by the side of the Maharana Pratrap Memorial Road are two boating docks. One dock offers a tour around the Fateh Sagar and the other is a shuttle boat to Nehru Park on an island in the lake. On the way to Nehru Park you may take photos of the solar observatory on another island but no boats land at the solar observatory. Nehru Park is small and clean. There are a few flowers and many more flowering trees. Although there is a run down uninspiring cafeteria I think that Nehru Park is a wonderful place for a picnic. If you are a tourist staying by the ghats on Lake Pachola, then go to one of the restaurants like Edelweiss and have them put together a picnic lunch. I suppose one of those leather satchels available everywhere could be the picnic basket. Buy your drinks and head to Nehru Park. One of those Kashmiri blankets could be the picnic blanket. I don't know where to get a Frisbee. But Nehru Park, quiet yet easily accessible (the launch comes about every twenty minutes) is the perfect location for a picnic! Fateh Sagar was dried up for six years until the 2012 monsoons restored it. The water is clean, I believe much more so than Lake Pachola. All the visitors are local Udaipur citizens in Nehru Park enjoying the day with no evidence of foreign tourists. The way that the visitors carefully don their floatation devices for a trip across a lake that could not be more than eight feet deep makes me think that swimming lessons are not common in Rajasthan.

The area around the lake is being developed as a walkway. Probably once the work is completed, it will become more attractive.
