We have stayed in Hotel sargam sadan in month of Sept 12. The rooms & all the facilities was excellent. Our most liked palace in Hotel was the roof top restaurant. The view from the restaurant was awesome and food to. We enjoyed a lot. The owner of the Hotel is so kind & paying attention to each clients. I strongly recommended this hotel "Value for money".

Room Tip: Choose 01st floor rooms.

We visited udaipur during Nov2012 on an unplanned trip. Our cab driver took us to this hotel since we asked for lake view room :-(
Initially, Manager told Rs.3900 for the room, after negotiating with driver he came down to Rs.3500 and the room had a lake pichola view(u will get to see shabby side of lake where ppl wud b taking bath n washin clothes). After few hours of check-in we found on agoda site that the same rooms were available in 1900-2000. We spoke to manager in the night and he finally charged us Rs.3100 by giving an excuse that its high season time and agoda site is not updated. I would suggest to book it online before opting for this hotel.
Best part was the rooftop restaurant and food (we just had bfast but found the quantity to be little less). And forgot to mention we cudnt find my hubby's abercrombie t-shirt till date.

Room Tip: choose this hotel if u want lake pichola's backwaters view n u r on tight budget and don't forget to book it online...

While the rooms seem appealing at first, you will find better rooms available in the heart of the old city for much less. The rooftop terrace is nothing compared to the havelis in the old city which boast commanding views of the lake and famous Lake Palace Hotel.

Rates here range from 1,800 to 3,000 rupees a night but in the city you will find beautiful, traditional havelis with rates of 600 to 1,200 rupees. I booked a room at Sargam Sadan for two nights since it was my first time in Udaipur and I arrived early in the morning. But after spending one afternoon looking around at other more convenient places, I realised I had been completely ripped off! This hotel is about 20 minutes from the city, whereas you can find hotels in Lal Ghat (near the City Palace) for much less and offering lots more.

In Sargam Sadat there is only the rooftop terrace as a communal sitting area. While it is near the lake, it's view of the more attractive parts of the city are obstructed. For instance, if you visit the Jagat Palace Niwas like I did, you'll see it has an amazing view and several charming terraces for its guests. I was told the rate here was 1700 rupees a night but if you go there, you'll see why. It is beautifully decorated, but go elsewhere for food.

Despite being some distance from the city, Sargam Sadan is extremely noisy. Whatever happens within the hotel, reverberates in your room. You hear heavy footfalls and screeching chairs from the dining terrace above. A Hindi radio blasts through speakers on this level from early morning until late at night (6.30am to 10.30pm). And the phone can be heard ringing while sitting in your room. The lakefront is also a popular spot among locals who race down by auto-rickshaw or spluttering motorcycles, blaring music. This portion of the lake is used to wash clothes and bathe.

The hotel's staff is accustomed to yelling up and down the marble stairwells, so their entire conversations are echoed through the halls and room walls. I would definitely advise against staying here if you have young children, you will get annoyed by the constant noise.

If you require internet access, you will need to sit in the lobby and hope there are no power outtages. The power went off about 3 times in 24 hours. I was told by the staff that they last between a few minutes and a whole day.

The hotel entrance is off the main road so for personal safety, you'll need to return soon after sunset since it is not well lit nor well populated.

Give the complementary breakfasts a miss. Beware of the word "omelette" on the menu. This means a one-egg crepe with little to nothing inside (the masala omelette only has a sprinkle of paprika). They serve thin, dry and cold white toast and the porridge is watery and tasteless. I also had an unsettled stomach after eating here.

After this experience, I chose to stay in a haveli in Lal Ghat and found it was much better value for money and more peaceful.

My husband and I recently spent around 5 nights at the Sargam Sadan and we loved it. The hotel was beautiful and our room was gorgeous! It is built and decorated in the traditional Havelli style, with painted ceilings and window seating boxes. Everything about the place is charming. The view over Lake Pichola is wonderful - especially at night with all the glittering lights. There is also a rooftoop restaurant with a view over the lake and fantastic food.

The owner, Neeraj Katta, is absolutely charming, and he and his wife made us feel so at home and well cared for. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located around 10 minutes walk from the main area of town - so it is very quiet.

We would totally recommend this wonderful hotel!
