“lives up to its name”

I stayed here on the recommendation of another traveller who had recently stayed here, and from the Lonely Planet listing. It follows the excellent formula of being an upmarket backpacker place with rooms across a wide price range so they maintain high occupany levels, and the travellers benefit the friendly traveller community in the rooftop restaurant. I stayed in a 600 rupee romm which was significantly larger and lighter than the 400 rupee one I saw. The room had loads of character and was clean and well maintained. Mr Singh was very helpful in sorting out bus tickets etc. The rooftop restaurant has a view as good as any in Udaipur, pretty decent food (although Millets next door has the edge, but no view). It even has a friendly, well fed, yellow labrador who does the rounds amongst the diners. Unforgettable.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a mid priced room

Though basic it is a very good little hotel. Excellent situation with a fabulous roof terrace. Was our favourite in Rajasthan .staff very friendly & helpful. The food was good & we spent ages supping our beer looking at the lake view. It was our first few days inIndia so good introduction.

The best thing about this place is the roof terrace. Even if you don't stay here go along for a beer in the evening and enjoy the view. We were upgraded, presumably because the hotel was quite full, so we got the bonus of a balcony. It was a good size room and en suite, although it could have been a bit cleaner - really it just needed a bit of a dusting. The wifi, which is only on the roof terrace, seemed to have its password changed unnecessarily often, which was a little irritating.

The room we were offered was much higher priced than was listed and didn't have an en suite. The carpet was covered in human hair, the towels were stained and the bedding looked well lived in. I expected a lot from the lonely planet guide, maybe too much because I was not blown away. That said the roof top is gorgeous, the staff are lovely and it is in an excellent location. Not awful by any stretch but I have had better.

Dream Heaven in Udaipur was our favorite hotel in Rajastan. The rooftop restaurant provided a glorious view of Lace Picola, and we spent hours sipping tea and gazing at the beautiful scenery. The owners were extremely friendly, and suggested day trips we could take, which we availed ourselves of. The location was perfect, on the quiet side (the Hanuman Ghat side) of the lake, and an easy walk to the busy bazaar. We loved this hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views.

Still deserves its place in Rough Guide, so book ahead as we saw lots of travellers turned away.
Its standout feature is the roof terrace with fantastic views over the lake and city. A shame the food served in the restaurant wasn't better, and was matched by the poor service. We were there during Diwali, so in their defense they may have been short staffed.
The rooms vary in price and are set out on various levels but all were clean and comfortable.
All the major tourist attractions are nearby and Dream Heaven will not dent your budget.
Tip. Check out big hotel next door which serves all you can eat buffet breakfast and dinner in rather plusher surroundings.

Room Tip: Lower rooms can be noisy as you are very much down among the local community. Room rates rise as yo...

Dream Heaven truly is an accurate name for this centrally-located budget paradise.

Really, it's the rooftop which makes Dream Heaven such a great place to stay. The view of the lake is breathtaking and the restaurant has delicious food that is fairly priced.

It's the laid back vibe and the people which really make the rooftop special. It's very easy to meet people at Dream Heaven even if you're a solo traveler, which is not true of all places. After a couple of days in a dingier place, I switched to Dream Heaven and was extremely satisfied.

I kept on delaying my departure date from Udaipur because I was having such a pleasant stay!
