Me and my partner travelled around most of rajasthan and the Jheel Guest house is in our top 3 favourite guest houses we staid in during our travelling time.

Not only where the rooms clean, there was hot water, beautiful decoration and the staff were exceptionally helpful and kind too.

and the icing on the cake for us was.........
On the day we left the hotel to go to Jaipur we left some art work in the Cafe downstairs and Ramu helped us Fedex it back to England. Even though this was quite a difficult task at times, he still persisted for us and we are eternally grateful. It just gave us so much happiness to think how helpful people are!

The restaurant food was also excellent and the view was great from the both the restaurant and from our room.

Highly recommend it to all my travelling friends!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: choose this one and don't get fooled into trusting you rickshaw driver.

We stayed in a room with a small balcony. What a great view over the lake it had. The room itself was quite basic. Didn't feel all to clean. But there was hot water for the shower. Rooftop restaurant was not great during our stay. Perhaps because the regular chef was home on vacation. Owner and manager were both very helpful when we needed their help, but the manager would win a lot if he cared to smile a little.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony, and you will wake up to the most stunning view of the lake.

I recently visited Udaipur (10th Feb 2013 - 13th Feb 2013) on account of my 1st wedding anniversary. I had pre-booked the lake facing deluxe room at the New Jheel Guest House. I reached the hotel 3 hours before the check-in time and was lucky enough to find the room vacant and was immedietly escorted to the room by one of their workers. The room was really clean. It had a fantastic lake view from the window. The balcony in the room was just above the Lake pichola and had a fantastic view of the Lake Palace, Sunrise and Sunset. The only missing part was non availability of TV in the room and room service. Overall the rooms and the hotel was really good. The flow of water in shower was less. Also, the price of 2500 per night was high compared to the ameneties available in the room.

Now talking about the Food. We always used to have our dinner at the Roof Top Restaurant of the hotel. The chief chef Rupa (Rupeshwar) was such a fantastic person and always greeted us with a smile of his face. He always cooked fresh dishes for us which were just Yummilicious. We had the Jheel special Tukkad and Navrattan Korma on the chefs recommendation and they just awesome. We always used to order Masala papad which was heavy enough with loads of vegetables to make our stomach full. We were little unlucky as the next day of our arrival Rupa had to leave for his hometown. However, in his absence his junior chefs ensured best quality food.

Room Tip: Make sure to choose the Superior lake facing Deluxe A/C room with Balcony

Rooms too pricey for us at Jheels but we ended up taking a room in Old Jheel guest house, which was excellent value for the room we were given (after some bargaining). We had a double on the road side second floor, which provided fantastic views of the nearby temple, a beautiful old tree which had monkeys playing in it one afternoon and not bad views of the lakeside, it was also nice and shady/breezy. The streetside room can get a little noisy if there is partying at Hanuman Ghat. The hot water was excellent, wifi worked in our street side room (just), although we were told that it would only work over at Jheel cafe so that was a positive. The staff were friendly enough and didn't try to sell us any extras. Excellent location (just 1 min walk from city palace rd, Bigore Di Haveli and the boating tickets at Lal Ghat). Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The streetside rooms are great to watch the monkeys if your lucky. The room can get a little noisy t...

Cozy location in the old town right by the lake. A fantastic view of the lake palace and the remaining parts of the town.

Rooms vary in size but they are all clean, bright and comfortable. Luxurious rooms with breathtaking views of the lake.

The best coffee india has to offer!

I stayed 12 days in Udaipur, because this was the right place to work on my new book. One reason why I liked Udaipur so much, is Rupahs Jheel Roof Top Restaurant. Every second day I went to Rupah for dinner. I liked the fresh made dishes, which takes around 20 minutes. Everthing tastes different and great. Rupah realy knows what he is doing. I went to the Ambrai Restaurant with a fine lake view and also to the Cafe Majur with a fantastic view on the temple. I tried a lot of other places too, but the the food at Jheel Roof Top Restaurant was definetly the best I had in Udaipur. And there is also a nice view!

Room: Deluxe room second level above café (Rps2800) right over the lake side with good views of the Lake Palace hotel – clean, about 4 by 5 meters with a small outside balcony with 2 chairs so you can sit outside and soak up the early morning atmosphere or sunset. Good air con but we only needed this in the middle of the day.

Bed: Full sized queen (not singles joined) but a hard mattress with one very hard pillow each, no bedside cabinet and no beside lights (so reading in bed a problem), no second sheet, just a cover throw to put over us when it got cold during the night – not sure about the cleanliness of this!

Bathroom: Marble, clean, shower had ok pressure but limited water flow - plenty of hot water but no bar of soap

Service: very good - helpfull and friendly. Very welcoming and on arrival we were quickly shown to our rooms with the paperwork done later in the afternoon. Always helpful and happy to take the time to explain things. Managed to get us on to thre train in the midst of a day long festival.

Wi-Fi: Free but not a very strong signal

Breakfast: Very good. Order from the roof top restaurant menu – a good mix of Indian and European – especially liked the banana pakora, masala omelet and masala chai – others enjoyed the banana porridge with honey, banana pancakes, shakes, lassi, coffee – you can order as much as you like so most of us had at least 2 things on the menu

Location: In old area right on the lake front - this is its best feature

Booking: A bit slow but we got there in the end but unlike most other bookings we had to transfer the full amount of money so as to secure the booking.

Restaurant: Roof top (nice views) – staff great - we went for lunch but found the food has been adapted for European tourists so not so good if you are looking for the full Indian flavor – we did not bother to eat any other meals here (except breakfast which was great) – for views and good non veg and veg Indian food and alcohol try both Ambrai and Jagat Niwas (roof top) - book beforehand – both only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the guest house.

Room Tip: Go for the more expensive room - the higher up the better
