“Charming Experience!”
Reviewed October 26, 2011

We spent two nights recently at Pahuna Haveli as a family. It was a charming experience. The haveli is nice and elegant and the suite we got was large and spacious. The hosts were the highlight of the stay - wonderful people with a lot of cross cultural experience. They gave us excellent advice on what to see and do in Udaipur. Breakfast was hearty and the free-flowing black tea was heavenly. Our young daughters made the most of the spacious surroundings. Udaipur itself was a revelation - easily one of the best visits you can make within India if you love history and culture.

I ended my 1 month Rajasthan holiday with a 10 day stay at Pahuna Haveli, home of Hemant Kumari, hostess. This is my 3rd stay in a 2 year period while in Udaipur.. I find Hemant to be very gracious & most considerate towards her guests...should you not know Udaipur [or Mewar Rajasthan] well, Hemant can recommend/direct you to your SPECIFIC interests - a most well informed hostess. Intersesingly, what your guides do/can not inform you of, Hemant, easily & fascinatingly, fills in the spaces. Your knowledge of Udaipur & its surroundings -if you know how to ask questions- will be thorough after your stay - all rooms I've stayed are elegant & spacious- in this gorgeously decorated, appointed, landscaped home only minutes from city centre.

Our party of 6 stayed for 6 nights during Diwali. Throughout the stay, we found our hosts to be charming and full of ideas as to which restaurants we might wish to try or sights to see. Without exception, their suggestions were good while the transport arrangements they made for trips to Chittorgarh and Eklingi were hassle-free and cost effective.

Each evening they graceously provided glasses and ice for us to consume drinks that we had purchased en route to Udaipur while the beer and bottled water they offered were cheap by comparison with alternatives in the city.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable while breakfast was good, albeit delivered at a leisurely pace - not a problem given the number of days we had to explore the area. We had a range of food on offer, including North Indian vegetarian breakfast with puri as well as the standard cereal/eggs/toast/fruit juice. All it took was a request from ourselves seeking what was available and the effort of deciding which to have.

The location was good - an oasis of peace - within an easy but exciting 5-10 minute tuk tuk ride to the Jagdish Temple. Getting back was no problem provided we remembered to carry a hotel business card with us - alternatively, the drivers invariably knew how to get to the nearby Lal Bagh restaurant.

We selected pahuna after reading reviews in trip advisor. This is run by an elderly couple.we found both of them very courteous and pleasing. we had booked a super suite and it surpassed our expectations. The suite was huge and very elegantly furnished. But you will be disappointed if you are looking for courtyard design in haveli. am not sure of common rooms that can be used by guests to relax.
Since our suite was very huge it didnt matter to us.Location of Haveli is convenient to tourists.good parking space.
The major drawback of this place is Breakfast. service is very slow and choices are limited.
There is no juice or fruits (only guava from their backyard). The breakfast start time is also very late for tourists who would want to start early. Otherwise we were happy to stay here.

Pahuna Haveli fell much below my expectations. I felt sorry I had wasted much money and paid more than a regular Hotel, yet got a poor deal. The bathrooms are extremely small. .....The towels in poor condition. There is just too much clutter of furniture. Although we paid Rs. 300 per head per meal, we were not served non vegetarian even once. Although a Non vegetarian meal for 2 people is normally between Rs. 400 to 550/-.including a beer.......in a good sit down restaurant.
Instead the hostess kept listing out the goodness of turning Vegetarian !! Thats not our idea of a holiday. There was absolutely no room service. If we are paying more than regular Hotels, we ought to get facilities too! isnt it? or you must Bloody well charge less money !
Neither will I ever go and stay there again.. nor will I ever recommend it to a friend.

Gorgeous, newly-renovated Haveli in a beautiful garden setting, with attractive furnishings in keeping with the distinctive regional architecture. Modern but small bathroom. Our gracious hosts served both ample breakfasts and outstanding dinners for a very reasonable price and provided interesting conversation on a variety of topics, including their own personal histories. This was the most beautiful and traditional home stay in our month-long tour of India.

We stay for two nights in this wonderful accommodation during a 29 days of independent tour in 4 and 5 stars hotels. But here we could contact the real way of life and have a very beautiful conversation with. The elegant lady owner. Thanks!
