I felt I had stepped back in time in Udaipur, it is such a spectacular window into the past, an "Old City" I just loved. Our stay at Pratap Bhawan was a wonderful experience. A gracious old building with so much character and a unique charm, it felt so "special" and very much a home away from home. Tarun Singh and Shakti Singh and their staff could not have been more helpful. I have been home just a week - and I actually miss them ! I only hope I can return to India one day in the future - and I would certainly hope to stay at Pratap Bhawan. Thank you for a very memorable stay.

We stayed in the Pratap Bhawan Hotel in Udaipur between 8th-10th of September and can only recommend this hotel.
It is situated closely to the central lake in Udaipur as well as the main tourist attractions. Soon, there will also be a rooftop restaurant belonging to the hotel with a view to the biggest lake of Udaipur.
After a very warm welcome from the side of the whole hotel team, we received a lovely double room (without AC) on 2nd floor with a clean bed and bath room. They also gave us a quite informative map of Udaipur with all the sightseeing recommended.
My friend Anita turned ill shortly after our arrival and had to stay in bed for the next 3 days. Nevertheless, she felt very comfortable and safe in the hotel and this was to an important part also due to the kind hotel management. They supported us from the very beginning and were very caring. Anita could benefit from the hotel's own little kitchen, a doctor could have been arranged if needed and there was always somebody asking how she feels like and if help is needed. Happily, they also allowed to extend our stay in the hotel and keep the same room. We appreciated the hotel management's kindness very much and want to recommend this hotel to any tourist coming down to Udaipur.

The best part of this hotel is it's proximity with famous sites in Udaipur. It is located just behind Jagganath temple and 10 min. walking distance from City Palace as well as 5 min walking distance from Bagore ki Haveli.

Hotel staff was very helpful and co-operative, as they have limited number of rooms they might not be able to provide you flexible check in and out. But when we reached early in the morning they provided us a temporary room for 2 hrs as standard check in time was 10 AM.

Currently they are renovating the restaurant so no roof top restaurant is available as of now. But overall the experience was really good and I recommand this hotel for pleasant stay in Udaipur.

Location is great, the room was very clean and nice, the best shower in India!! and even have TV,
The first night we didn't get the room we reserved but the manager apologized and move to our room the second night. The reason was that some guest had to stay an extra night because one passenger was sick.

I stayed six weeks in this wonderful hotel and I recommend it to everyone who is passing Udaipur. The wonderful staff and owner made sure I was safe, comfortable and healthy my whole stay.

The reason for my long time in Udipur was studies and I am very happy that I stayed at Pratap Bhawan the whole time. The owner and staff will help you with all your travel questions and they all truly cares about your visit being good and that you are pleased.

The rooms are all clean, bright, comfortable, has AC and fan, and very nice bathrooms. A water heater makes sure you will get really warm water for showering, if you please. You control it yourself in your bathroom.
WiFi is free in the lobby and with good speed. You can order breakfast to your room, but really, you should enjoy it on the fantastic rooftop, with an amazing view over the city, palaces and tempels. A chai in the sunset is also recommended!

It is walking distance to many tourist spots and shops. If you need a rikshaw, the hotell staff and owner will help you get one to a good price.

I truly have nothing to complain about. While I stayed, I met other guests and they where all happy with the hotell as well.

This is a good, safe, nice and a best value hotell! I promise!

I am a professional traveller and have stayed at Pratap Bhawan a number of times. It is a completely different hotel now as there is a new management taking care of it. Mr. Shakti Singh & Mr. Tarun Singh take utmost care in ensuring a comfortable stay for the visitors.

Rooms - Neat & clean interiors, spacious enough with good quality linen, curtains with traditional Indian touch. Lots of natural light to give you a fresh feel. Importantly, bathrooms are neat & clean too. The AC is very silent, doesn't create noise at all.

Lobby - Beautifully decorated & spacious lobby with free wi-fi connectivity and yes, not to forget the lovely masala chai they keep on serving every now & then.

Terrace - A small, cute & comfortable terrace where you can relax while writing your journal or reading a book.

F&B services - The food here is always fresh & delicious as they prepare it only on advance orders. So, please place your order well in advance in case you are interested in having food here.

Laundry - Very good laundry service at reasonable rates.

IMPORTANT - We can certainly cut down on the use of plastic bottles while we are here. They have installed a water purifier at the ground floor and the water is properly treated and is safe for drinking. So, please refill your bottles at no extra charge and contribute towards saving our environment.

You can't go wrong with the location of the guesthouse- Walking distance from City Palace, Pichola Lake, Bagore Ki Haveli, Jagdish Temple, and the myriad of shops & restaurants- its easy to explore this enchanting part of the city of foot. The rooms are tastefully decorated, and the rooftop restaurant adds to the charm. The service is great. One night, we came back to the hotel at 10pm, and the restaurant was shut by then, but when we requested for coffee, they served it in our room with a smile. Also, we had checked out of the room at 11 am in the morning, but kept our luggage at the hotel, since our train was at 5:30 pm in the evening. After coming back to the hotel, the owner gave us his room, so that we could freshen up, and served us tea for free- Great example of Customer Service. The owner was also kind enough to book us a table at Ambrai- a must visit restaurant in Udaipur.

Negatives- No power back up. There is regular power cut from 9-11am, but still there is no provision for emergency power back up. Quite a bummer as we had to wake up early in the morning, just so that we could have hot water stored before the power cut.
Noisy- Since the guesthouse is situated just beyond the Jagdish Temple, if you are a light sleeper, you may have trouble falling asleep with all the temple prayers and chantings that are streamed through a loud speaker.
