Tiger Safari Resort
Ranked #15 of 26 Hotels in Sawai Madhopur
Reviewed April 21, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for 2 nights in December 2012 and were pleased with our stay. This was a luxury treat for our trip across India, however if your used to 4* inclusive hotels then you might need to adjust your expectations to stay here.

We were warmly welcomed by the manager on arrival. He was a straight talking guy to the point of being a bit abrupt, but also friendly so we quite liked him. We hadn't booked a safari tour but he gave us advice to book tickets online in advance for a diesel canter, which turned out to be fantastic advice when we were rewarded with seeing a tiger hunt and kill a boar then sit about 20 feet from us (and dozens of other vehicles) before walking off into the jungle. The other staff here were very friendly and even opened the restaurant earlier than its advertised times so we could have food.

Our room here was modern, clean, well furnished and spacious. It came with cable TV and good WiFi connection. The lobby also has an internet enabled computer for guest use. There is a restaurant which provides basic but acceptable affordable meals. Our room led out to a nice internal gardened area in the middle where we took breakfast each day next to the swimming pool.

The resort area will be a bit pricey for travellers with limited budget (our room of luxury was $35 per night), but if you can afford to stay out there then its better for access to the safaris than Sawai Madhopur town would be. Overall, if you're staying in the resort area and looking at the cheaper end of things, we would recommend this place.

This hotel is OK, rooms are large but very outdated. I do not think it is worth the money you pay, compared to other guest houses in India at half the price - though there is a pool which I guess is what you pay more for. The hotel manager was nice, very straightforward but able to book you tuk tuks and safaris. My advice though would be to either reserve your tickets for the park online before you come, or walk 10 minutes down the road to 'Tiger Tracks' where they can guarantee you with zones 1-5 (do not bother with zone 6) at Rs 100 (this guesthouse charges Rs1200). You can go to the booking office yourself, but be warned, it is a bit of a nightmare there! There is a lovely vegetarian restaurant across the road from the guesthouse where we ate the whole time at a very cheap price.

Me and my girlfriend stayed their for one night, however we were suppose to stay for 2 nights but they were over booked, anyway we were informed about this before
Rooms were clean and nice but there was no hot water even at the time which was told by manger
Breakfast was so lousy and pathetic which was actually included in the room price,I think it was over priced for the breakfast
Manager will not help you for booking safai and will advise you to go by own in early morning(at around 5 am)
Pool was good and clean but no privacy was their,I mean dinning area was in front of pool and even gates of few rooms were facing just in front of pool.
Good but not in all ways

As other guests have noted, Rathambhore hotels don't tend to deliver great value by India-standards. This hotel caters to the budget-minded Western tourist, and I think it will meet the needs of those travellers quite well. Rooms are pretty clean, and there's a small but pleasant swimming pool. By USA standards, I'd say this is a 2-star hotel. Folks used to staying at 4-star hotels in India will find it a bit rough around the edges. Like hot water is offered only intermittently in the rooms, and our AC went out unexpectedly before bedtime, making for less than ideal sleeping conditions. Also, the supposed "cottage" rooms are not in cottages, but seem to be slightly larger than regular rooms.

The hotel manager can assist you will travel and safari needs, but he's also a little rough around the edges, so you may not find all your interactions with him to be pleasant.

Frankly, the worst thing about a stay in Ranthambhore is the dining options, and here this hotel does well. We couldn't find anyplace better to eat nearby, so we had two meals on-site, plus breakfast. All were satisfactory, and reasonably priced (breakfast was included in the room price).

Bottomline: I might try to find a better place to stay in the area, but the Tiger Safari Resort is OK.

It seems all hotels in this area are generally more expensive than most other parts of India so tiger safari is a good option. We got a double room for around £30 for a night. Only stayed for 1 night as we had a safari booked for the next morning but enjoyed my time there. Staff helped in sorting out safari which we had booked online for a small additional fee. Has a pool which is a good addition especially if you stay for more than 1 day. Would recommend

About the resort :-
Pool is clean, big enough for a fair amount of people to enjoy. Rooms are good enough for two people to stay. Bathrooms are clean. The places is not as big as the impression that the pictures create. In comparison to any other place (daabbas) we ate in the city, the food here was good here. Staff was very decent and dedicated. Manager was a little rough on the edges(may be its his job) but still he was good to talk to. The staff here did all the help they can with everything that can be done to make our trip worthy be it staying in the resort, or traveling tips to arrangements for traveling. Honestly we didn't knew anything about the place, so everything was explained and guided by the staff there. A guy named Abhay was considerably helpful. A little downside that you can say it has is :-
1) For alcohol :- If you are bringing your own thing, you can't have it anywhere outside your room in resort (poolside or there restaurant). If you order it though, you may have it anywhere you want, but its expensive.
2) For dinner :- Dinner closes at 21:30 Hrs. :( .. Can't be late for it, although I have seen them making arrangements for late night incoming, I guess you have to ask them for the same.

Trip :-
We were 7 friends for the trip. Reached at the resort 14:30 hrs on 16th-March-2013.
Had our lunch. Took a dip in the pool for an hour or so. Relaxed in our rooms, had tea in the evening. Took lots of photographs in/outside the compound.
Had some beers and dinner afterwards.
Next morning safari for ZONE1 in canter (online booked). It was chilly in the morning. ZONE1 was just ok kind of area, didn't sited any tigers, the guide didn't seem really interested but the birds there made the day. They sat on our hands and head to eat whatever we had to offer (kurkure and crushed candies). It was a nice feeling. But overall we didn't find any tiger. It wasn't a total waste though.
After coming back we had quit a lot of time for our return, so we decided to take one more safari ride (afternoon/evening timings) after hearing that they have sited the tiger in ZONE9. We checked out of the rooms and resort staff did all the arrangements for travel and made sure that we get a good driver. There was no guide this time, driver knew all the required things. ZONE9 was quite amazing/adventurous (something that one expect from a "JUNGLE"). But we couldn't spot any tiger there either. We came back to resort from there at around 19:30 Hrs and stayed in the resort till 00:00 Hrs, it was appreciating that they gave us a room to rest till then and also arranged for an autos for railways station at that hour. Unfortunately we can't bid them farewell since it was late night.

Room Tip: About the rooms :- Ask them to give the room with pool view. ;) Its awesome. About the online boo...

Sooo disappointed. We talked to the hotel before we arrived and were promised a pickup from the train station, a booked safari for the morning and running hot water. None of these things happened. Be warned! The manager will no longer pre-book safaris even if he says he will. He claims there are new laws that force all the tourists to book their own safaris the morning of at 5am. When we arrived in line we were the only tourists buying tickets and every other local had at least 10 tourist names who they were buying safaris for. When we booked into our room it stunk like mould and we had no hot water even during the 2 hours of hot water time. Even the crappy breakfast that was supposed to be included was overrated and charged us extra to refill with cold tea.

In all honesty the hotel itself wasn't so bad its just not at all what they promise. There are much better options around.
