“Perfect weekend getaway made special by Taj”
Reviewed January 13, 2011

As a mother, whenever travelling with my small son (4 year old) my biggest concern is how "child friendly" the hotel would be.
We travelled to Ranthambore in December by road from Gurgaon and stayed in the suite at Vivanta by Taj. As always, we were not disappointed. The room was huge - the suite had 2 rooms, one a large bedroom and the other a living room. It also had a terrace alongside the room, which my son really enjoyed playing with. The best part of the room however was the bathroom. It was simply huge with a tub and a separate shower area - ideal for families if they need to get ready at the same time!
Food was also super - the only flip side was the limited menu given that the hotel only had a buffet service. It would have been nice to have multiple food choices.
Staff was very courteous and helpful with information and catering to special needs.
Overall a great trip made even more special staying at the Taj,

The Hansen sisters stayed here for 2 nights in November, 2010 as part of privately guided General Tours 2 week tour of Rajasthan. We were soaked on our first game drive, and it poured, unseasonably, during the next 2 days, removing any chance of seeing the tigers. The sensitive, caring general manager, Nagendra Singh Hada, had a solution: he invited us to his impassioned slide show highlighting the habitats, habits and decline of the big cat populations in the world. When we raved about the light, delicious Indian dishes we had eaten, he organized an outdoor cooking demonstration with the excellent chef (this was the best food we ate in India, with the Taj Lake Palace in the same category of deliciousness). He sat with me for 2 hours answering all my questions about Rajasthani cuisine, as if I was the only guest in the lodge. My time at the Lodge, therefore, became my favorite memory of India. He asked how the spa treatment went after I emerged from the spa (it was great.) This is old-fashioned hotel management in the classic, best sense of the word: on a personal, human scale.
The Lodge itself is calm, with a circular living room surrounding a large fireplace for winter chills, an outdoor patio, lawns, swimming pool, and has many sporting opportunities on-site. The room was done in jungle prints, and the bathroom was gorgeous - a huge glass and marble shower, with an immense grey marble bathtub and seat. I would highly recommend the hotel for relaxing, game drives, foodies, and those who appreciate the look and service of a classic game drive lodge. Excellent!

This hotel was perfect. The atmosphere was relaxing and warm and beautiful. The rooms were nice and cozy. The service was perfection. All meals are included in the price of the rooms and the food was delicious. We wished we had spent more than one night at this hotel. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed our stay at the Lodge from the first to last moment we were there. The decor and staff uniforms create an ambience of around 100 years ago but the facilities and service are of a high modern standard. Unpressured and relaxing it was a lovely place to chill out between Safaris. The hotel will provide blankets for the early morning safari if you ask. Worth doing as it is surprisingly cold on the move between 06.00 and about 07.30 when the sun gets down into the valley. We can also recommend March for tiger watching as there is relatively little vegetation in the park at this time of year and you can see further.

We stayed here for three nights so that we could take advantage of the game drives in Ranthambhore National Park. We arrived in the pouring rain feeling miserable that the drives would be cancelled. I had booked a standard room but admittedly, once shown the upstairs suite in the main lodge we quickly opted to pay the extra and stay there. It was really nicely decorated in an art deco style. We didn't watch either of the flatscreen televisions but did enjoy the well equipped bathroom including the rain shower and tub. The rest of the lodge is pretty much as you would expect. There are lots of old photographs and stuffed tigers and leopards mounted on the walls. Between the game drives it was nice to sit on the balcony enjoy morning coffee and read. The food here was quite good offering both indian and western cuisine. No shortage of it either. One night we were served dinner outside which was very nice. My only complaint was that the internet could only be accessed in one small area at the back of the diningroom which was not always convenient. Other than that the hotel was great. We were lucky and saw a tiger on our first drive. After that lots of tiger tracks but no tigers!

Just amazing. When one thinks of Ranthambore, we tend to think of Oberoi's Vanya Vilas or Aman i Khas resorts. But the well hidden secret is with the Taj. The Sawai Madhopur Lodge (Taj Vivanta) run by Mr Hada and his efficient deputy Mr Rehman and their whole team, is awaiting to surprise you. The ambience is good, great spacious rooms, lovely food and amazing customer service. Each and every member of their staff has the right attitude. The campus also has an amazing birding life. Overall a superb holiday and a great customer experience. Keep it up Mr Hada.

An excellent place to be if you are looking for a relaxed holiday. The hotel is what used to be a royal hunting place. The staircases and dining rooms take you back in time and make you wonder the style of living of the royals. It is very conveniently placed from the railway station. Local transport is not difficult to get from the station. In the village of Sawai Madhopur there is very little to do but the hotel in itself is a wonderful place to be. Equiped with a lawn to play sport to a swiming pool, to an Air conditioned pool, carrom room. It even has a small reading place wiht excellent books.
