“Amazing property! Relaxed and royal!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2014

Loved the property. Very well maintained. Food is good, rooms are spacious and the spa is also good though they don't have JIVA.

The service is good, staff is very courteous and always ready to help.
Loved the idea of exploring the property on cycles :-) .

The only thing i will recommend is that they should have room service for food. It is strange not to have room service in a place like Taj vivanta.

Meals are mostly buffet, will request to have an add on Menu.

Otherwise the hotel is awesome.

Our visit to the Taj Sawai Madhopore was in early May. The property is indeed very beautiful. There are large landscaped grounds, which are a joy to roam around in the early mornings and late evenings especially in the lively company of birds, squirrels and hare. Being large and well spread out also means that if you are staying in the suites like we did, it is a bit of a walk from the room to the dining area. Walks can however be avoided by the use of golf cart and bicycles. This also makes the property very kid friendly as children can roam safely in the grounds on cycles, take the occasional dip at the swimming pool, and if they wish, take a ride on a camel cart which visits the property in the mornings.

One of the first things that stood out in our suite was the availability of TWO large bathrooms. Both had large shower areas and bathtubs. However, what at first impression appeared to be overkill stood us in good stead the next morning when we were getting ready for the morning safari. We realised its such a bliss to have separate bathrooms as all three of us (wife, kid and I) could prepare parallely without rushing each other. The room was nice, but we did feel that it was due for some renovation. This is of course being bench marked against the high expectations that one normally has from a Taj property/experience. We noticed some cracks in the wall,a few blemishes on the locks for the bathroom doors and a few minor stains on the carpets. Additionally it would be good if the reception for cable t.v. can be improved. The picture is quite grainy and beats the point of having a large modern flat screen t.v.

The staff is very good and well trained. They generally go the extra mile to help you. For e.g.they proactively arrange for your wake up call in the morning or send across a golf cart to the room for a pickups. Please note that while Taj will not do the Safari bookings for you, they do however have in place staff who will assist you in getting current bookings. This means that a person will actually accompany you to the booking office as early as 4:30 AM just so that you can get a morning current booking. I was extremely grateful for this, as the booking office is quite chaotic and without their assistance I would have been quite lost.

Meals at the lodge are served via buffets. There is an A-La-Carte menu, but we did not try the same. On request,a special Khichdi was arranged for my son, which he really relished :) The buffet is a combination of both local as well as western dishes, and overall the preparation is quite tasty. Service at the dining hall was also very good. However do keep in mind, that there is no room service available.

Overall, our stay at the property was quite enjoyable. Coupled with the fact that we were successful in getting multiple sighting of tigers, our vacation was indeed a grand success. I would like to close off this review with a final suggestion for the property management. I think the property should ideally arrange for a complimentary pick up and drop from the station. The distance is really not that much, and for guests like me it is an irritant to arrange for either an Auto or Jeep to get to/fro from the station. More so on the return leg, as autos are not frequently available near the property.

Room Tip: Our suite came equipped with two bathrooms, each having a bathtub

This is an old property with beautiful plantation and simple landscape. Rooms are located quit far from reception and restaurant. Their suit looks like small deluxe room with dirty and noisy sitting zone behind the room where frogs can jump on you and scary till heart attack. For curtains and bed linens they use same cheap type fabric, not impressive at all. In room sitting area is very small and whole room is dark, and ceiling is too low, so you can't feel comfortable there. Also they didn't take care and prepare room for us before coming. When we entered the room it was hot inside and lots of mosquitos were flying there.
It was raining that evening and we didn't want to go out, we wanted to have our meal in room but they told they didn't have room service so we HAD TO go out in that rain to reach the restaurant. Choice of dishes is also average.
Another unpleasant moment in this hotel is that they don't provide tickets for morning or afternoon safari. They told us that we had to go to Forest department office before 2 hours and wait in queue to buy tickets. Morning safari starts 6 AM. It means we should wake up 3-4 AM to go there and get the tickets?!
I think they should do some renovation in rooms, they are not matching with our time. It seems they are stuck in old time. They should do some changes in interior, some plugs were not working properly for example. And that awful curtains and bed linens.......
Also they should take better care for guests. Many other good hotels kindly provide tickets for safari, u just need to give your ID and pay fee. Like that headache in early morning queue nobody will like....

We had a 4 day stay at Vivanta by Taj at Sawai Madhopur and thoroughly enjoyed it.
1. The resort is close to the station, however did not see too many autos or public taxis and hence it is best to arrange a pick up with the hotel.
2. The hotel is located closest to the Forest Office from where the jeeps and canters for the safari to Ranthambore National Park start.
3. The reception is Spartan, but in true raj style there is a Lounge. The grounds are huge and you can enjoy roaming on the grounds especially in the evenings and mornings. There are a lot of birds and squirrels on the grounds.
4. Facilities like a badminton court, swimming pool are available – but are not used too much as the main focus of the guests is on safari.
5. Large number of bicycles are available to just move around the campus.
6. The reception is Spartan and I had to wait for the room to get empty, but then I was allocated a room closer to the main building which includes the dinner room. This was a gift as we did not have to undertake the long walk post safari / lunch / dinner. However, golf carts are available to take you back and forth from the rooms to the main building.
7. The Rooms have a large bed , good AC, TV etc. The cupboards are adequate. Overall good comfortable rooms.
8. They help you getting the safari booking post online booking and the pick up happens in the hotel. Tea is arranged prior to the pick up at 6 am in the verandah.
9. All rooms have a shared veranda and lawns close by.
10. The bathrooms are huge and have a tub /bath as well.
11. As there is nothing close by you have to eat all meals within the Hotel. The meals were good – but nothing seemed to be outstanding. A good blend of all kinds of food and a non-finicky person should enjoy.
12. Service was good in the dinning room, reception or maintenance.

Some negatives
1. Toilets should have a good exhaust system and the bath should also have a shower provided.
2. In the first aid box lot of things were missing like antiseptic creams and the hotel should make sure it it full everytime.
3. As in all holidays there are people who will make a lot of noise but there is no way to avoid such people in India. But the size of the resort means that you have to face these people only in the dinning room.

hotel is located almost in city centre and sanctuary is within reasonable distance.building is good and layout is wonderful with well spreadout rooms. There are b'ful trees in the campus.Food quality was good and service excellent.Staff well mannered and helpful.Food is served in the dining hall only as rooms are situated at some distance.Swimming pool was okay.were unlucky not to sight tiger in the sanctuary but can't blame the hotel for this.Overall wonderful stay .

Room Tip: rooms near the main building will be preferable for the sake of convenience of dining etc.

On arrival you have a welcome drink and a short talk from the manager.

There is only 30ish rooms so does not have a hotel atmosphere more like staying with friends, there is a lounge where you can sit for drinks in evening, or an outside veranda. There is free wifi in the lounge or on the veranda.

All meals are included as are tea/coffee but all other drinks you pay for which where reasonably priced. It is buffet style and works around safaris so if you have an early safari you can have breakfast when you get back at 9ish.

It has traditional and western offerings so something to suit everyone, the food was very good and you can see them freshly making naan's outside the restaurant. The chef makes local desserts with lots of little different things you can try, some exceptional some not so but you have to try these things!

The rooms are very large and are in blocks of around 6, they have air conditioning and Celine fans in room with a verdana with table and chairs. The bathrooms are huge with separate shower and massive bath! They are decorated to fit the scene with real animal fur cushions on bed. The rooms are cleaned daily and beds turned down daily.

The grounds are stunning with lots of chipmunks running around, also lots of different birds, we're not bird lovers but if u are there are bird spotting books at reception.

There is a pool, which first time ever I heard people complaining the water was to warm...but it was 42 degrees outside! There are lots of activities dotted around like table tennis, cricket, badminton, far to hot for these but in cooler months ideal for breaks in between safaris.

We had two safaris booked one morning, one afternoon, and done an additional one in afternoon we arrived for £20 each. We had five separate sightings of tigers and one was feet from our vehicle!! We did the safaris in canters which sit around 18 people, some people did private jeeps, we saw tigers on two of the three safaris and the private tour only saw one tiger. The canters have a spotter which the jeeps don't who are on the look out and can track from footprints and warning signs from other animals, so would not be put of doing the canters over private jeeps. Don't seat on back row you will have a very sore bum and bruises as really bumpy, go for middle between wheel arches were slightly more gentle!

We stayed in several hotels in India and this was by far our favourite! We would highly recommend!

The rooms at this property are just reasonable. The reception too was not upto the mark. But the greenery of this property almost makes up for every drawback this place might have. The spread at the dinner table was also sumptuous and delicious. You need to make safari bookings separately ..... and inspite of having made all the bookings - we were unable to visit the safari due to rains!
