Just sitting on the well mown lawns surrounded by a variety of large tropical plants you feel you could be back in the days of the British Raj. The rooms are low level and a joy to stay in. Meals were good and the staff helpful, particularly when they were glad to drive us in a buggy between our rooms and the restaurant. One exception was a chap in reception who I found rather patronising. He clearly felt that the standard of the clientele has declined since Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh stayed here in the 1960s. Probably true but he should try to hide it!

The location is on outskirts of the Ranthambore town and convenient for the Nature Reserve and the Railway Station, The hotel has got character and is set in large grounds with a good sized modern swimming pool and sun loungers. There are many mature trees and shrubbery in the grounds and a well kept lawn. There is plenty of wild life in the grounds. Look out especially for the fruit bats nesting in the high trees near the swimming pool.
Our bedroom and several others were in the single story crescent shaped building circa 100 meters from the main lodge building. Each bedroom has its own door with an idiosyncratic bolt and look opening onto the grounds. Our bedroom was large with a small separate sitting area, a large bathroom and a private walled courtyard with sun loungers. No Bathrobes or slippers were provided.
Housekeeping was haphazard with no reliability in the replenishment of drinking water and the replacement of towels. The hotel was prone to power cuts especially in the afternoon, the shower door leaked, the air conditioning was good but the controls did not work at times. The mini bar did not work and we were not sure if the light switches worked. There was no English language TV channel and there was no information on the Hotel facilities, the meal times, no TV channel listing, no Telephone user guide nor local attractions guide. The staff were pleasant and some were helpful.
Breakfast and meals are served in the Buffet style, the food quality is good with a wide selection. Seating in the dining room is in the refectory style i.e. several long rectangular tables at which groups of travellers may dine together. Depending on which of the staff you asked you might or might not receive what you requested. Avoid asking any staff member wearing a cravat and jodhpurs for anything because nothing will be done.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which has its own small outside courtyard

This is a well maintained retreat. Had gone there for my bday and spent quite a pleasant weekend with family. The staff here is courteous & helpful and could provide food for my baby niece at odd hours which was really a boon. The buffet spread was limited considering it is the Taj group but was understandable as this is mostly a weekend retreat kind of place. Wifi facility is not available in this place except at the outdoor dining area which is very strange...but maybe that the whole idea of a retreat, eh?

We stayed for three nights in the Lodge and were offered an upgrade to a suite, which was really quite luxurious, we even had a small, private garden to ourselves. The entire site is actually a green garden, very nicely kept. I can't fault the place at all - staff were all very helpful and friendly. Evenings can be spent on the terrace of the lodge, overlooking the green and talking about the viewings of animals (don't forget, enjoy the wilderness, if you see a tiger it's a bonus - we didn't, but others did). Food was good but maybe too much geared towards the Western tastebuds. Don't get me wrong - everything is well cooked and tasty, we just would have enjoyed more local food, but they do have lovely ladies making local bread freshly onsite. On the whole a good, comfortable stay.

Beautiful property, courteous staff and decent food. AND I saw a tiger on safari from here ! I really couldn't have asked for more. Let me talk some more about the hotel now.

Location: It's not really inside the jungle, but then Ranthambore doesn't really have any good resorts. They're all in Sawai Madhopur which is 10 kms away from Ranthmabore. Vivanta is really close to the railway station so if you're travelling via a train expect a 10 minute journey to reach your hotel.

Property: Very well maintained and peaceful. Rooms are pretty, clean and well stocked. Because the property is huge they have golf carts to help you go about. A big plus if you're with elders/ children from your family.

Food: The food is just about decent. The buffet spread could have been diverse and the food tastier.

Staff: VERY courteous and do their best to make you feel at home. Haven't come across many such in other 5 start properties. They went out of their way to bring us food to our room which they normally don't and to book a safari for us on a really short notice.

Other than all of these I quite liked the musicians they had playing during dinner hours. Played some rajasthani songs really well and kept us entertained.

To sum it up, I'll definitely recommend Vivanta and I give it a good 4.5/5. .5 marks deducted because the food could have been better.

What a lovely place after the hourly burly of travelling. Peaceful grounds, lovely staff, good food especially the ice cream, could have stayed for more than the one night. Didn't see a tiger but the naturalist was very knowledgable about the other wildlife.
