We stayed in the castle for one night two days. The castle was safe, clean and hygienic. The food and staff was very homely and gentle. Great location and the approach road to castle was well maintained and adds to our adventure trip. The room was very basic with no show but was clean and comfortable. From the castle if you are lucky you may sight a tiger and various other wildlife.

The “Castle Jhoomar Baori” hotel is in many ways characteristic of the state owned tourist development corporation properties across India. It probably has the best location among all hotels in Ranthambore but it’s age is clearing showing and in some aspects it is truly hideous - our room’s pink coloured walls with metallic green curtains - being a case in point. It is, nevertheless, a former castle which was used by the royalty and this is aptly reflected in the traditional and tasteful architecture of the place, a redeeming factor when viewed in the light of the more modern but ugly embellishments as pointed out above. Coming back to location, it is perched on a small hillock situated on the edge of the National Park, within the territory of the infamous male tiger - T24 - which has reportedly claimed 3 human lives including that of a forest official. It has been sighted on the driveway leading up to the hotel from the main road and the staff will be happy to share a video shot by guests who had a chance encounter with the beast while returning back to the hotel in their gypsy.

The view from the terrace-top is beyond doubt the highlight of the hotel. Towards the east lies the national park forest - a patchwork of green and rich brown hues in the winter - complemented by sweeping panoramic view of the city and plains all around. Not a bad setting to take a potentially popular Facebook snap of yourself.

The hotel staff were courteous and served us drinks and snacks on the rooftop in the late evening. Although the hotel had decent occupancy, we were the only guests on the rooftop and the experience was particularly serene and peaceful, accentuated by the silver glow of the moonlight bathing the panoramic views. The food is not your typical “rich/restaurant” food fare, but tasted more like home cooked preparations. My only grouse was that I think my Mom cooks better food, so didn’t find it to be anything special.

The idea behind our Ranthambore trip was to spend some quiet time close to nature and escape the hustle and bustle of civilization. Jhoomar Baori with its splendid location offered just that and more at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: The hotel does not have a elevator. Please keep that in mind if you are travelling with senior citiz...

I spent 2 nites in room 304 which overlooks the forest behind (I requested this in particular). Room was large, basic but clean and with very comfortable bed and hot water n AC 24 hrs due to on site generator. From the balcony attached to the room and upstairs terrace I spend many hours looking at wildlife. Ofcourse I had high power binoculars (Olympus 8 X 40) to help me. Spotted Neelgai, sambhar, cheetal, wildboar, vultures nesting in the hills behind, crested serpent eagle eating its prey and felt I had spotted a leopard's kill on a tree in the distance but it was too far for me tosay for sure. Also the nearby trees are full of birds of many species and wild peacocks in the immediate hotel surrounding

From the station transport was Rs 200 but if you booked via hotel it is dearer (Rs 350). The room had black ants and a resident lizard, but then you are in the wilderness so please dont complain. All meals were excellent and the restaurant made sure we were all served hot pulkas/puris for every meal, straight from the tawa/frying pan. Breakfast in the mornings in the garden in the winter sun was magical.

My 3 canter safaris were booked through a pvt company at the govt online rates and I didnt have to pay anything extra for registration (previous reviews have said that staff @ Jhoomar Baori charged extra for daily registration). At check out all my payments were fully receipted and I found both the day shift and evening shift managers very helpful and friendly.

BEWARE the resident tiger whose territory happens to be around the hotel. He has killed 3 humans to date and the last one was only 2 weeks before my visit. But it has be said the humans had strayed onto the tiger who then attacked (The tiger has not come out of his territory to kill humans). So please dont stray onto the wilderness out of the hotels property.

I will definitely return to this lovely place run by lovely staff. To make most of it you need good binoculars. Would recommend this place to any true wildlife enthusiast, but if you are someone who likes the glitz of city hotels then you are better gong elsewhere rather than giving this place a bad name.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the property have the best views of the surrounding forest, esp on the 3rd floo...

We visited Ranthambore wef 21.10.2012 to 24.10.2012 , a group of 20 people and stayed at Hotel Jhoomar Baori. We had booked six rooms in advance. On reaching Raileay station Canter had come to receive us. We reached the hotel in 15 minutes. The Manager welcomed us & nice homely lunch was ready for us at 2.30 pm. The rooms were just okay but lobby was excellent where we used to have get togethers at tea time & in the evenings. Tarriff displayed was same & they charged 1500/- per child for extra beds for all children above 5 yrs,but to our surprise there was no sufficient space for extra beds(2). The Hotel is understaffed with 3 aged house keepers just near retirement were doing all the room service & restaurant service. But they all were very well mannered & courteous. Most of the rooms were renovated but lizards were seen in many rooms. One of the rooms was Suite but bedroom size was very small with double bed just fiiting with a large drawing room attached to the suite. The behaviour of the staff was very good & friendly but on discount was given in any of the services. The USP of the hotel is its location deep inside the forest. Hotel is about 2 kms inside forest & we used to see many Deers &bSambhars on both sides of cemented Road to the Hotel. On one evening we also see 2 porcupines dancing on the road ,which was a very fascinating & unique experience of lifetime. The Hotel management could not book the tickets for Forest safrari so we had to get the help of local market travel agents for the same. Over all it was nice stay. The Food used to be just like home made with less spices & the chef always used to ask us about our preferences for dishes.

Room Tip: Second & third floor rooms are better in location than first floor.

Such a lovely hotel with great views! Staff were nice and attentive. Food was decent. They have a nice quaint shop for authentic Rajasthani stoles, bed sheets and stuff. We loved the walk on the path that leads to the main road and we could sight lot of birds. Every morning we used to go up to the terrace and watch the sun rise and listen to the lovely parakeets and peacocks making sounds. On the whole, a very enjoyable experience. The front desk staff helped us book safaris and car transfers.

If you can get the booking of this Hotel, Needless to say, Best in Category Hotel.
Its hard to believe its a Government run Property.
The Best part of this Hotel is its location, which makes it unique. Its the only place which comes inside the sanctuary and if you are lucky like us, you might see the tiger in morning in parking Area or behind the hotel (as this comes in the territory of one of the tigers here)
The food is excellent, specially if you are chicken lovers. The Veg lunch also is very homely and delicious.
We were there for a day, reached without booking Safaris and we are really thankful to the Manager, Mr. K P Singh who arranged Gypsy Safaris, both the time (evening and morning)
Dont excpect the 5 star frills, just say what you want, it will be done.
You do miss the swimmimg pool and
The entire property has the feel of the heritage, and you feel like kings when called hukum every time. The joggers will love this place for the track (from sanctuary gate to hotel is fab)
Overall.. the best place to stay in Ranthabore.

Room Tip: dont take the top floor if you are travelling in summers, as the AC takes time to cool.
