We went on 3 safaris, pre-booked as part of a tour. Our main disappointment was not seeing any tigers but in fact we saw very little wildlife in the park at all . Although this can obviously happen with wildlife watching, we found out afterwards that we were sent to sectors (4,5 and 6) of the park that there was almost no chance of seeing a tiger as they had to avoid 2 females with cubs and these areas were prone to poaching. However, this does not explain why there areas seemed to be devoid of other wildlife. We suspect the sectors where more tigers are seen, which seem to be around the fort, are reserved for people who have not made advance bookings and therefore need to be encouraged to go again. It was all a very far cry from the wonderful national parks of Sri Lanka which teem with bird and animal life of all sorts.
