“Wonderful with some hiccups”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

We stayed in Jodhpur for three nights before going on a camel safari in the Thar desert.
Our room was simple but comfortable. We had everything that we could need. The ambiance of the hotel was gorgeous. We could see the fort from the staircase leading to the upstairs living area. We loved the views and the architecture was unique and fascinating.

We loved the restaurant and the staff took such good care of us. I had quite a bad headcold, and they were able to offer remedies and made sure that we were well taken care of and had everything that we needed.

The downsides weren't numerous, but upon reflection, they were rather significant. Firstly, there was a locked door in the bathroom, which obviously once served as access to the bathroom from another bedroom. There were three holes in the door, and we were able to see through those holes into the staff quarters which were next door. This means that the area where the shower was, was visible through these holes from the other side. I noticed quickly, and was able 'plug' the holes using tissue paper. At the end of our second day, we returned and the tissue paper had been removed. I was very annoyed, and spoke to the owners about it. They were quick to act, and claimed to be unaware of this issue.

They arranged a camel safari for us, which was a phenomenal experience. The communication between the host family in the desert and Snghvi's Haveli was confusing and at times rather frustrating. We were dropped off in a square in town, and waited for an unknown person to pick us up in a car and take us to the desert. Nobody knew who was driving or seemingly, where we were going. Being two girls traveling alone, we found it most unsettling that nobody could tell us who this man was, and how long we would be in his jeep for. As it turned out, we got there with no problems, other than the driver's obvious reckless attitude to road safety. It turns out that he knew where he was going and who we were, the entire time. The main problem was that we had no idea.
They told us that two nights in the desert would have been sufficient, despite our request to do three. When we returned after two nights, as was communicated to the camel safari director, the staff at Singhvi's Haveli seemed confused, and convinced that we were to be in the desert for another night.

These two problems weren't greatly worrying at the time, and didn't affect our experience too much. I only wish that somebody would have explained our transport to the desert a little more clearly, and that the driving had been less reckless.

In saying all that, it seems that the relaxed attitude to safety and organisation are all a part of being in India. We tried to embrace it as much as possible.

The food in the restaurant was delicious and the rooms were absolutely gorgeous with a fantastic atmosphere.

Room Tip: The rooms up the stairs next to the reception seemed to be the quietest with the least foot traffic.

This is a beautiful hotel with spacious clean rooms with a lovely floor seating area for meals. We were collected from the train station with no problems and fed dinner even though it was very late which was good of them. The only issue we had was getting someone to wake up at about 5am as we had booked a tuk tuk to the station through them and he was very late - this is a very current occurrence we found in India. We had left an extra half an hour but spent this trying to wake up staff to call and wake up our driver.

Room Tip: We stayed in a cheaper room but the more expensive ones were huge and had a view of the fort.

My friend and I chose to stay at Singhvi's Haveli because we wanted to stay in an haveli during our time in Rajasthan. The hotel has beautiful views over the city and it is in a great neighborhood that feels "homey", away from the touristy part of the city. However, our room was quite small considering that it was advertised as "deluxe A/C". The food was just ok, and unfortunately some of the staff had a very limited command of English (not necessarily a problem, but cause of delay when you ask questions and you have to wait while they go and telephone the boss). When we asked whether they could call a taxi or auto-rickshaw for us, the staff told us just to walk to the main square and get one - though I would assume that they might know that there are very few around on a Sunday...We ended up having to come back and ask AGAIN to please call us a rickshaw.

All this being said, I think the neighborhood makes up for it. I would just advise you to splurge on a larger room if you can afford it.

Well, that is a great place to stay in Jodhpur!

I particularly enjoyed the fact that it is located in Navchokiya, which is like they say: "the bluest, the oldest and the most quiet". Far from the noise of the clock tower area, and in one of the most

Additionnaly:
- the hotel is incredibly beautiful
- it is cheap
- People are (extremely) willing to help
- Roof top view is amazing!
- They can organise a "Bishnoi Safari" with a local company ( the one adviced in Lonely Planet, but you should check if you really want to do that before)
- Food is ok
- Close to the Fort

1 "not so good" point: As everywhere in India, AC is noisy.
Some will complain that it is far from the clock tower area (my opinion is that there is nothing special in the clock Tower, it is just like every market in India)

The old city of Jodhpur is my favorite area in Rajasthan, you should not miss a walk in those streets! I definitely advice to stay in Singhvi's Haveli.

I can thoroughly recommend this lovely family-run hostel in one of Jodhpur's picturesque old houses. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the rooms are lovingly decorated and clean (and come with AC). There are several nice outside spaces, including a nice restaurant, and for the view from the rooftop terrace alone, it was worth staying here! Singhvi's is also conveniently close to the fort and the old town. I would definitely stay here again without a second thought!

I wasn't at this hotel more than a two days and I didn't feel like risking the shower, it was just too small and suspect. Haha. It was probably OK, though. The rooftop and views were nice. It was definitely cold because there was this open space to the outside. Food and location were solid.

Singhvi's haveli is a lovely little place tucked into the Navchokiya area. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated and the staff is attentive and friendly. The only thing I would say is if you are planning on booking a car don't do it through the hotel as the 800 rupee commission is a bit steep! Other than that, it's a great little place that I strongly recommend!
