“A great view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2010

We stayed at the Haveli Inn Pal for 3 nights in December 2009. We had a very nice room; it had a view of the fort, was very spacious, and clean. For me the highlight of staying at the Haveli Inn Pal was being able to sit at the rooftop restaurant and drink a beer with the imposing presence of the fort just there. It was magic! Another highlight was the very friendly door man with the impressive moustache; it was a pleasure to arrive home and be greeted by his infectious smile.

The hotel is located centrally but the area around the hotel is quite dirty and hectic. The hotel itself felt calm and quiet but once you crossed the threshold you were in the thick of the action We ate at the hotel restaurant on a couple of occasions and found it to be convenient and a reasonable experience. We organised a car to Udaipur through the hotel which was very basic.

The hotel room was more spacious than many we stayed in. The bathroom was good and had hot water - funny how this becomes so important when the temperature drops! The staff were very helpful and polite. There was the usual noise outside the room that you get in India – dogs barking/fighting, temple prayers at loud volume at 3am, tooting from motor bikes, cars etc. But that’s India and it’s the same just about everywhere! There is a great cafe around the corner serving good coffee and has windows looking on to the street so you can get a nice break from the chaos and still see what is going on. Rooftop restaurant was good – nice view of the fort. Food was good. We took a tuk tuk up to the fort for 60Rs and then walked down. Halfway down there is an entrance to a street that leads into the old city. We wandered down here and walked the streets – didn’t see any other tourists. Was interesting to see everyday life away from the main market and tourist area. When we finally reached a main road we took a tuk tuk back to the clock tower (which was quite a long way from where we ended up!) We hired a taxi for 1200Rs to go to a village outside of Jodhpur called Chandelao. It's about 45km from Jodhpur on the Jaipur/Jodhpur highway. This was an excellent experience. The owner of the Garh (fort) there took us around the village explaining about life there, the work people do, the plants they use for food, the caste system and the different wells etc. We saw all the women coming to the well to get their water and carry away on their heads. There is also a shop to buy handmade goods (no pressure at all!) and the ladies who make these goods are there working so you can be sure it is genuine! It's interesting to see how the embroidery is done and this is keeping the skills and craft alive. This is a project called "Sunder Rang" meaning beautiful colours. All the money from the sales goes directly to the women who made the goods. There are other villages near by – weaving, pottery etc. If you have time visit these too. They have their own website so check it out!

Well-presented haveli hotel with large, clean rooms, nicely decorated with period features. The location was perfect for viewing and visiting the fort - Jodhpur's main attraction. Service was good with friendly staff and we were collected from the airport and later, the train station, as requested.

Arrangements made with the hotel for onward travel by private bus were a bit confused, with mixed information given and resolved only at the last minute, resulting in an earlier start than we'd expected. We got there though and were brought cups of tea at 6.00am before departing - a nice touch.

A small niggle was they'd asked for a $50 US deposit on booking and when we settled the bill, tried to count only the $48 they'd received - charging us for their Paypal fee, though they'd specifically requested that we use Paypal. A lot of people must overlook that but it must have been raised with them before, which bothered me, as they must know they're making an unfair charge just because they can often get away with it.

I'd originally tried to book with Pal Haveli, next door but they were full. We dined there one night and while the menus and pricing were almost identical, the ambience varied; Pal Haveli more formal, Haveli Inn Pal like a friendly bistro - and with the best view of the fort.

I had a great experience at Haveli Inn Pal - the location was impeccable and the roof-top restaurant has a gorgeous view of the fort and of the whole city. It was also great food at very reasonably prices. The service also sets this hotel apart. I left my camera at the restaurant just before checking out and only realized it after I'd already left the city. When I called the hotel, the employees had turned in the camera and the owner personally delivered the camera to me at the train station.

This hotel is across form the Clock Tower, right in the center of things, and the fort is a ten minute walk (which you should do - the walk and the views are great!). Our room was spacious and very clean. There was plenty of hot water, the bathroom was spotless, and we had a fantastic view of the fort. The rooftop also has amazing views and the food is very good. The staff was friendly and helpful. But the best thing is that you could walk out the door and be in the swing of things, then escape to the complete quiet of the inn. Great value. I would stay here again.

Location, location, location! Beautiful haveli right next to the bustling market/clock tower! You can walk to the fort from here too! The rooms have fabulous views, ask for one facing the fort, the view is amazing. The rooftop restaurant offer a fanstastic 360 view of the entire city and great food. And the staff is super helpful and not overbearing ... a wonderful break from the rest of the city. I would definitely stay here again :)
