Excellent paintings at reasonable prices. Well worth a visit. We didn't get to do any painting, but you can if you ask and book.

I went to Umaid Heritage Art school in April, so at the end of the season. In the end, we bought a painting and a set of paints. They were willing to bargain and we got a good price, down from 175 pounds to 95 pounds. I also took part in the free painting lesson and because Vijay wasn't there, his son taught me. Although admittedly there wasn't much actual teaching, he was very nice and showed me how to mix the paints, i enjoyed it and the finished product was good. They are really hospitable at the shop and friendly, you can have a nice chat with them and purchase a lovely piece of art. Beware, the prices are high but you can bargain down and i think it's worth it in the end.

I stayed in Jodhpur for nine weeks last year and Vijay's art school became my second home. Vijay is a wonderfully hospitable man who is happy to talk about about anything and everything and share his art with you. He also helped a friend and I in a huge way--we were working on educational material for a public health project for the local villages and he donated his time and expertise to do several extremely helpful paintings for us. The school is great to see if you're a tourist, but definitely not a tourist trap--the best place in Jodhpur to buy authentic souvenirs that you'll enjoy for years to come Not to be misssed!

I met Mr. Prajapat briefly when I stopped by his art school. The Mewar Miniature paintings that the school specializes in are truly stunning, so take time out to observe and admire the skill and ingenuity that goes into their production. Mr. Prajapat patiently explained to me the entire process behind the art, the years of training and the utilization of purely organic vegetable colors. If you ask him more about his school, work and ideology, you will understand what a large-hearted and dedicated artist he is. He gives free lessons to not only tourists but many village boys and girls who come to his school to learn. A great place to support local art, culture and sustainable enterprises. Bought myself a small painting by his student that fit my meagre budget, but if you have more to spare, you should look into buying the more elaborate pieces on display.
