The experience was one of a kind - the grandeur of the property , the efficient staff and the lovely weather was a perfect mix.
The food menu however could have a bit more options - the aam panna welcome drink was simply amazing

Such a welcome!

Greeted with a band playing, rose petals floating, cold towels, a garland of flowers a refreshing drink and many elegant and traditionally dressed smiling hotel staff.

There are are nothing but compliments for this extraordinary hotel. It is a 'must' to stay here if you visit Jodhpur.

The food is great, the staff are friendly, superbly trained and professional and anticipate every need.

The 'Palace' is beautiful inside and charmingly and tastefully furnished with historic memorabilia and art abounding.

The extensive gardens and walkways are classically and architecturally designed and maintained with beautiful precision.

On arriving in Jodhpur and planning our visit, we decided that we absolutely had to have dinner at the Umaid Bhawan Palace after reading other reviews. The building is stunning with opulent detail at every turn. The menu choices initially intimidated us but our waiter was very helpful in steering us in the right direction. All his recommendations were absolutely delicious and our meal felt like a very special treat indeed. We finished our visit with a nightcap in the Trophy Bar. A magnificent evening. Highly recommended.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in January 2014 while on a tour of Rajastan. The current Maharajah and his family live in a separate section of this palace.
The welcome was unbelievable. Rose petals, drums, trumpets and Indian dancers welcomed us, in addition to the cold towels and drinks.
The restaurants were very good. The rooms are large and beautifully furnished.
All the staff were very attentive and helpful. We were even given a present when leaving.

We have done some luxury travel in the past couple of years. We have been to more than seven four seasons in Asia but we had never experienced something like the Palace. This palace has something of its own. When standing in the central dome, time stops and a melancholic feeling overcomes, as you picture in your mind how life must have been in the palace. The views are splendid, the gardens marvelously kept, the staff is friendly. Be sure to try a dry martini from the Trophy Bar.

Our third visit and just as good as the first! There is always the concern that special memories can be marred by a disappointing return visit - no such worries here!! The Umaid is just very, very special and our decision to rejig our itinerary by commencing with an internal flight to Jodhpur was completely vindicated. (It somehow seemed inconceivable to come to Rajasthan and not stay at the Umaid).

I could go on about the history and architecture of this amazing palace at length but this has all been said before. Suffice to say, surely no-one could stand inside the dome and not to be enraptured by the magnificence of the building, especially when you consider the numbers of people involved in its construction and the fact that it is built with interlocking stone and no concrete!

This time we stayed in one of the historical suites with a terrace overlooking the gardens and the Mehrangarh Fort. The gardens at the Umaid are immaculately maintained and quite a sight to behold. In all our visits we have yet to dine in the Risala restaurant as the view and ambiance from the Pillars restaurant is just so spectacular. It always amuses us that at breakfast time there is a dedicated pigeon beater and at dinnertime there are two 'cat bouncers' to prevent the Maharaja's cats from entering the restaurant!

As usual the service was exceptional. Just to give you an example, an enquiry about when the dancing was going to start and finish resulted in the management requesting an assistant to record the entire proceedings (when I casually replied that we would miss it) and there was a DVD waiting on return to our room! Similarly at breakfast we were brought a platter of Indian delicacies to sample over and above our order. On another occasion my son was hesitating over which flavour of milkshake to order so they brought him one of each. At dinner, if one of you orders a starter and the other doesn't, the one without the starter will be served a small cup of chef's soup to keep the other company. The housekeeping staff also deserves special mention. We could hardly believe our eyes when the Items sent for cleaning were returned exquisitely presented in a tasselled basket with the socks folded and packaged so meticulously that they looked brand new. My request for a petal strewn bath resulted in the housekeeping manager arriving with a selection of aromatherapy oils for me to sample at leisure. There is even a pillow menu which consists of a dozen or so choices! On our departure we were given a beautiful farewell gift and a selection of delicious food treats for our onward journey. It is undoubtedly attention to detail like this which sets this hotel apart.

I must also mention the Jiva spa which continues to offer service of the highest standard.

Overall, we cannot come up with enough superlatives for this hotel which ranks up there with the best of the best. For us it is an all- time favourite- thank you to the management and all the staff for your outstanding hospitality. We can't wait for our next visit!!
