“Excellent service, great rooms”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

The good parts first. We loved the hospitality and the service. The rooms were excellent. The hotel is conveniently located and is fairly close to the city center and most places of interest. The only thing we did not like was the food. While we didn't mind the breakfast, the rest of the food was pretty average. We had an all meals included package but we actually preferred to step out for most of our lunches and dinners. Our suggestion is to not go for a meals included package deal.

I stayed here for a short while, 2D/1N but I had the whole day to myself so I poked around the hotel.

The entrance lobby is fine. They've tried to give it a Rajasthani touch with a fountain in the middle and all, but it ends up looking too cluttered and tad cheap, thanks to the fountain that looks like like it's made of play dough! Check in takes quite a bit of time and the staff is rather inefficient. I give them specific instructions on how to bill me and they completely messed that up - causing a huge delay while check out. Another thing that annoyed me was the fact that I was never told that my package included all meals - and I ended up paying for them!

The construction is new, so it's nice in that sense - pretty clean. The rooms, again not a very great attempt at recreating the Rajasthani touch - they end up looking bleak and empty. The worst are the windows - the garden side view is basically the exterior wall and since it's the ground floor, there isn't much to see. Occasionally you'll find the extremely annoying noise of the grass being mowed and the staff sitting right outside the window for their break. Also, the rooms aren't that well stocked - cupboards completely empty, no amenity kits, no robes, no shoe shine and I had to ask them for flip flops. The TV is NOT satellite as they advertise it. Its horrible analog cable TV. And in the bathroom, you wont find much either... not even a toothbrush. I had to do without it, since I hadn't packed a toothbrush with me as most places provide you with this stuff. :/

The whole thing felt a little empty. Though they did have a good stationary set which I saw on the worktable.:P

The pool is beautiful. and sitting there is awesome. You'll also find pigeons jumping around and they have an open air eatery with the beautiful pool view.

The best part about the hotel is the food. If it wasn't for the food, I might have given them a 2 star review... but the food was absolutely delish! I had Italian for lunch, Oriental for dinner and Continental (with yummy Pastry!) for breakfast. Some of the best food I've ever had.

All in all. it's a nice place if you have something to go and do outside in the city. Perhaps I got bored because I stayed in and the place didn't have much for entertainment. Though they do have a cultural programme which is supposed to be good, but I didn't get the chance to see it.

It's a decent place to stay and the hygiene factor is something you can be assured of. It's just that I had a hard time placing this place into a category. It was good, but it wasn't "The Taj" level at all. If you give it the benefit of doubt, saying that it's a 4 star not 5, it still doesn't seem good enough - its comparable to the 3 star Keys Chain of Hotels, with the latter getting a +1 for decor. It's best if you go to stay with no comparison in mind. Another factor is the price - It's comparable to 5 star rates of other cities... not exactly cheap.

So in conclusion, while the place is good, you are left desiring a little more - but it's a good second option place to stay.

Room Tip: DO NOT take the garden side if view is an important factor for you!

Stayed there last year. I loved the hotel. It is grand and majestic. Loved the interiors and the paintings in the lobby. The food was awesome too. The swimming pools is large and it is a bliss to watch pigeons at the periphery of the pool..... Their terrace is wonderful and apt to spend romantic moments under the stars! Cheers!

I don't know how these people come up with their star rankings? Seriously. On the first leg of our journey, we stayed at a different hotel in Jodhpur (also in the Taj family) and were under-impressed with the first hotel - so much so that we decided to switch hotels on the way home, and stayed at the Vivanta. We were glad we made the switch (if you really want, you can dig around my profile and find the other hotel where we stayed earlier).

Vivanta - Solid hotel. Rooms are nicely maintained. large. there were some other reviewer comments about the property being a little off the beaten track, but seriously, if you're in India, do you really want to be in the center of the tourist mosh pit (or get ready to be taken for a tourist trap ride) or smelling all of the trash? Personally, not me. I'd rather be semi-distanced from the "cultural contrast" (which can be somewhat overwhelming at times).

Hotel food was solid, though, only a handful of choices in terms of physical locations (don't let this scare you). We ate a la carte at the restaurant that also served the (international) buffet (I'm not a buffet person). We ordered several dishes, the most outstanding of which was this chicken tikka type curry, with tumeric leaves or some kind of leaves - and wow - it was out of this world. Surprised, given that most of the people were eating the buffet (all the gems are hidden on the a la carte menu. We also loved these little cheese appetizers that are semi-fried).

We recommend.

Not much to say. The place is impeccable and perfect. The setting in a large garden is wonderful.

We enjoyed it without any drawbacks.

Quiet place in a busy and sometimes crazy city. The hotel is a little outside the center, but a short Riksha or Taxidrive will take about 15 minutes.

We recommend this place without any drawbacks. We arrived with back-pain from 3 nights in another city at a hotel with very hard beds but Taj Hotels just have the perfect beds and made us feel good again. We immediately felt the typical "Taj" athmosphere.

People are courteous and nice. Few special mention who ensured we had a nice and comfortable stay at the hotel : Lokendra at front office ensured we get the room with perfect view. Staff at Latitude (Hotel restaurant) Vikram & Uma were outstanding in service. The food was delicious and spread was good and elaborate. Mr Rajan Chawla (Guest relations) was another gem of the person we met on our stay. He attended almost all the guest personally and ensure they are comfortable.

The hotel host puppet, magic shows and rajasthani folk dances daily. You don;t have to go out of the hotel to get the flavor of Rajasthan. Jodhpur as a city doesn't have much to do , but we didn't felt bored for a single day. the hotel had so much to offer in terms of comfort and entertainment. Apart from the pool you can choose to spend your time at the private theater with well stocked DVD, have a game of pool or table tennis.

kids also have a lot to choose from for the entertainment. Overall a brilliant stay and we had a wonderful time.

PS : Did i mention , the hotel staff packed loads of stuff for our kid when we checked out and they got to know that we are traveling by car to udaipur which is close to 6 hrs by road.

Room Tip: 108 is one of the best room offering pool view and easy access to pool

As is the usual standard of all Taj hotels, this Taj property also had a very good standard. The rooms were big and clean. We had booked two rooms and had requested for inter-connected rooms. They had arranged for two inter-connected rooms. Housekeeping staff was excellent. So were the attending boys and girls at the restaurant. They were very warm and cordial. Food was good. The live music in the evening was old hindi tunes and played excellently. In the evening the Rajasthani dance, magic and puppet shows were also good. The young front desk staff were also really great. However, some of the security staff were a bit over enthusiastic. Overall we had a very nice stay for 3 nights 4 days.
